The Galactic Mapping Project & Historical Archive of Exploration

Do not underestimate my imagination..... Flameless Fire ? ;)

It's a black hole, that one has to get dangerously close to, in order to see a view of the fire beyond it. How about "Icarus", after the Greek legend in which Icarus comes too close to the sun and melts his wings, falling to his death?

Commander Marx recommended me to put this system on your forum SPOIHAAE XE-X D2-9,a White Dwarf system with a metal rich world in orbit.

The orbit is elliptical, orbits the White Dwarf around every hour and ranges from 2.5ls at furthest point to a squeaky bum 0.06ls at closest point.

It is also a landable world but I haven't gotten close enough to the surface to deploy the SRV and potentially melt the tyres!

The first commander to land, get some technetium and escape safely will be the commander with the biggest balls of steel!

As I'm not up with the Greek gods or any deities and 'Brimstone' seems so soft I'm gonna call this world the 'Microwave Oven World'.

I've got some pictures from 'Microwave Oven World.' I'm going to throw my hat in for the naming and suggest 'Monde de la Mort' as the name. It literally translates to 'World of Death.' Assuming, of course, that Leif_Erickson has no issue with that name. Though, since I'm the first to officially land on it I feel invested in it a little bit myself. :)

EDIT: I asked Leif and he said "As the first Commander to set SRV wheels on the Monde de la Mort I think it's a great name!"

Excellent!! The last one looks like "what happens when SRVs die".

New POI.

POI Name : The Heavenly Mists.

POI Type : Foggy planet.

Galmap ref : Pheia Auscs AL-T C5-155, planet : 8A.

Desc : The planet in question is the small moon that orbits around the eighth planet of the system. This one has the particularitie, when the night falls, to cover itself with mists. This makes it a very dangerous moon because it has a very steep relief with large peaks and deep canyons. Some trays may form landing areas.
Last specific, it happens to be the moon of an ammonia world with icy and rocky rings. Their position is brought closer. The view is magnificent.

When the haze dissipates the view is better:

Update POI: Eta Carinae

Add to desc: "Previously a 4th-magnitude star, it brightened in 1837 to become brighter than Rigel marking the start of the Great Eruption. Eta Carinae became the second-brightest star in the sky between 11 and 14 March 1843 before fading well below naked eye visibility after 1856. In a smaller eruption, it reached 6th magnitude in 1892 before fading again. It has brightened consistently since about 1940, becoming brighter than magnitude 4.5 by 2014."

New POI.

POI Name: NGC 3211
POI Type: Planetary Nebula
Galmap ref : GCRV 6493

Desc: "NGC 3211 is a small blue planetary nebula in Carina and below most of the galactic plane. It was discovered by John Herschel on Mar 7th, 1837. The nebula offers a good view of the nearby Eta Carina nebula.

The nebula is unusual for having as the host star a high-age A-class star with rocky bodies. A-class stars are not known to give off mass in such a way as to cause this type of nebula. Astrophysiscs can only speculate as to what caused the current arrangement."

POI name: Midway geysers
POI type: surface feature
Galmap ref: Xothao RA-D d13-41

Desc: Found by geyser hunter on his way back from remote Wagar's Reach, making his descent from neutron highway towards Colonia. Very active and good view of nearby rocky body. Head to 11 C -13.96 -19.30
Too cold to support organics, so geysers will be the only feature you can find.

POI name: Descent
POI type: historical location
Galmap ref: Synauleia AA-A h2

Desc:
This system at 3299 light years below the plane, is believed to be the lowest ever reached as of 14 Jun 3303.
'Descent' is the counterpart to 'Ascent' discovered only a few days earlier. Visiting Descent will require neutron boosting and FSD injection, including the challenging "double boost" method. A maximum jump range (with boost) of 237.85 light years.
Descent is reached as follows:

  • Synauleia VJ-Z e2
  • Synauleia YE-A g0
  • Synauleia YE-A g8
  • Synauleia AA-A h2 (Descent)
nb: this route requires two double boosts. An alternative route exists which requires only one, but it includes a maximum jump of 266.07 LY in order to return safely.
