Newcomer / Intro Soooo frustrated!

Thanks, I've seen a few Fed Navy missions and have heard that those are particularly rewarding, but haven't qualified to take them yet.

Something weird happened: I was down on a planet just trying to explore w/SRV, but that was fruitless even though I thought I had seen something of interest from my ship. Anyway, I got assigned a boom data mission out of nowhere and the directions were to meet a particular guy in a named system. I went to the system and there were about 7 ports there, but I couldn't find a way to find that particular guy. I stopped in to the port w/the most services thinking that would be my best bet but he wasn't there (at least in the Missions tab). I'm supposed to meet him then take the data to another system/port, which are specified. Am I missing something? Is there a way to find a guy?? The mission is only worth $36k, so no big deal, but I thought maybe some alliance sought me out for this task - and gee...I want to be liked...

Also, I've NEVER been successfully interdicted - whether in my Cobra, Vulture or Asp Scout. Am I that good? Seems like I'd eventually have to fight someone, but always get away. Too easy it would seem. Thoughts?

Never taken one of those pop-up misions myself, but if you "meet a guy in a system", you usually meet him at or around the appointed time in supercruise. Fly around a bit and check your comms. He'll usually ask you to follow his wake. So fly after him and once he drops out of SC, target his wake (like you would a station or an USS) and drop on it.

As for the interdictions - they all have been NPCs? NPC interdictions are at the moment easy to win, player interdictions not so much.

Oh, ok, now at least I know what to look for.
Yes, all interdictions have been NPCs, thanks.

Ha, that's funny! Glad to hear someone admit they are/were at least at inept as I! Yep, have three ships, 8 mil credits because I kept at it, read a lot, watched a lot of Youtube. Still lots to figure out - but I recently found some better passenger cabins so can make fast bucks transporting folks - at least when I don't get destroyed carrying "illegal passengers." Still working on that. I've even taken out a couple of wanted commanders. Work in progress...

You know a cheaty trick to wanted passengers going to a surface port is to have an SRV, land outside the station outside scanning range and drive in to the base using the SRV. Request docking when you're close and follow your compass to dock in to the hangar. Your ship automatically docks in to the base instantly allowing you to complete the mission.

Genius!! Thanks!

I posted this as a reply in another thread but not sure anyone will see it there.

I can't do ANY of these things! This is the craziest game I've ever played!
I've played a lot of games over the years, but I've never seen anything like this. Who would make a game where you can't even get started?! I can't take any missions, I don't qualify. I can't accept anything in the lounge, I don't qualify. I don't have enough space to trade or mine anything worthwhile in my Sidewinder.
I've done all the training and now I'm starting and have been to about 5 different "places" and either I don't qualify or I can't get to the locations necessary ('Boom' missions), too far, don't have enough fuel.

What the hell am I missing here? Thanks for any help you can give me.

I just got the game, and after an hours worth of nothing, having done all the training, i came here feeling the exact same way with the same questions. Thank you for posting this thread, and thanks to the people that pointed to a few directions of where to get started. This game had me feeling like i threw money in the garbage.
