What the heck is wrong with all the whiners on here?

And why? Two main reasons come to mind:

1) The gamers themselves are at fault. They let the companies do it. The companies offered shiny DLCs and promises, and people lapped it up. WE are the problem, the gamers. Sure, the companies offered these modes of development, but we bought into it.

I never said the blame lies with anyone in particular.

2) Games are a lot more expensive to make these days. Its rare a big game with good quality graphics and sound etc can be produced by a small team in a relatively short period of time. Yes, there are exceptions, but most big games these days require massive budgets. They have to find some way to fund that. Either through expectations of high sales and investments, or by pay to win, or by pay for cosmetics, or whatever. It takes time and money.

Most of the budget goes on marketing and paying voice actors/cinematographers and so on. Games don't need those things to be great games. It can help with immersion and most people enjoy a good story, but the popularity of games like minecraft prove that the lavish expenditure isn't really justified in terms of returns.

The solution for both these points is, if you don't like it, don't pay. ITS YOUR CHOICE.

If you have paid, and don't like it, then you only have yourself to blame, because then you are part of the problem.

If you haven't, then cool. You can move on to play a different game that doesn't have a delivery method you don't like.

All of that is true, but none of it excuses the outright greed that is at the root of the issues currently plaguing the video games industry. Blaming the consumer for falling in with the status quo only goes so far. Do we blame homeowners for outrageously high house prices? I mean, we all need somewhere to live right? We have to pay whatever is being charged because there are no alternatives. Same with video games. There are no alternative "AAA" products available, so if you want the flashy presentation, slick voice acting (mostly) and cool cinematography, you have only one choice. You either play AAA video games, or you don't. I guess people just like their video games.

To be fair (and I'm probably about your generation as well), all that demonstrates is the technological ability to display high polygon assests. It doesn't make the game any better and in fact, Elite: Dangerous is seriously lacking in many departments that its predecessors covered quite nicely.

FFE covered the bug ridden angle very nicely :D

Many years ago, before the days of the internet, when we got games, we would play them, and if we enjoyed them we would play the hell out of them, until we completed them often, and tell our friends, and share them via tape to tape or whatever. If we didn't like, we would put them down, and tell our friends why we didn't like it.

However, things have changed. We now have a new breed of player, who plays the game yet complains non-stop about it, and thinks because they can talk to the devs, they can force the devs to make the game they want (with no thought for how it might not be what other people want - they want X, they think X is great, so everyone will enjoy X).

And there are those who just love to complain, even thought they don't play the game. They must somehow feel validated by expressing negative views about a game they don't even like or play.... or perhaps they simply do it to troll. Always hard to know.

Not saying people themsevles have changed so much, perhaps expectations (right or wrong), but the internet giving everyone a voice has been a negative as well as a plus.
So, what are these forums for exactly? Just to tell the devs their game is perfect? And here I was thinking forums were useful for feedback of all kinds so the devs could know what players thought they were doing well and what they needed to improve on. What an idiot I was...

Nope, its for discussion of the game, and providing constructive criticism.

I believe the OP wasn't having a dig at people who make constructive criticism. He was having a go at people who rant, rage, and who just seem to thrive off negativity.

You now talk just like extremely old people have talked, to younger, and about younger people; since the dawn of time.
It's what happens when the human brain is entering the stage of severe decay. [yesnod]

And that's why I refuse to listen to myself...or anyone who talks to me like an old person exposing what things were like in their day. Because nobody really cares...not really. It's like humouring the old codgers in nursing homes who tell ye what it was like fer the real gaming heroes who fought with 56k modems and wireframe graphics to get decent fps...back in the day...nobody really cares anymore ^

Nothing wrong with the whiners. They are whining perfectly. Pitch, timbre, all amounts to an exquisite keen. Almost as delicious to listen to as a dental drill happening to other people, far away.

And the new stuff looks awesome, even made me dust my old exploration boat out of retirement for another run round the block.

:D S

In this particular case, if you can't be bothered to put the effort in, you really won't get any enjoyment out of it.

Yeah, this... all the RNG complaints... do people just want things handed to them? In a galaxy as big as this, it would certainly be a very random event to encounter one of the probes. You certainly wouldn't have the internet or other pilots telling you where and when to look. You wouldn't have benefit of the hours other players have put into this. In fact, if you nabbed a UP, how would you know what to do with it? How would you find one of the active alien ship sites? How would you know what order to do the sequencing that results in the map display if not for other players having put in the work & written about it?

Seems people don't really want to play this game, they just want to collect all the shineys. Sad.

Agreed & repped. I can never understand this stance either. If you don't like the game, for whatever reasons, don't play it!

As far as trying to blackmail (and that's exactly what it is) FD with "I'll take my game elsewhere and tell everybody you're crap!" would be hilarious if it wasn't so pitiful.

And that's not even discussing the nightmare that was Newtonian flight, and combat.

I'd really like to see this brought back, for all the hot-shot pilots (in their own minds) to deal with. One of my Holy Grails in Elite was getting that docking computer!
