Newcomer / Intro Ps4.... No moons?

Not sure about the other platforms, but I've yet to see a moon. This game is so wonderful, so why would moons be left out?

Swear I've been looking. My buddy hadn't seen them either

Ok, uno momento...

All of those planetary bodies with the blue line around them, they are landable planets. They're also satellites of a parent body, AKA moons.

"moons" are just planets with no atmosphere mate.

I know, but for the purposes of showing OP, I kept it to what is currently in the game.

Ermmmm --- no, no and no

A moon is a natural satellite.

nuffink to do wiv atmospheres mate ;)

There are plenty of land-able planets in the game - i.e. with no atmosphere but definitely not a moon.

Plus there are plenty of moons with atmospheres in the game.

99% of the landable bodies I have come across have been moons.

That doesn't detract from the fact that you made an incorrect statement, three times. We are just trying to let you know you are wrong in thinking that a moon is a body with no atmosphere - moons are natural satellites, atmosphere or no atmosphere. Planets are planets, atmospheres or no atmospheres.

In the game you can land on bodies with no atmosphere - planets and moons.

I know that moons aren't exclusively non-atmospheric bodies. Within the context of the game that is thoroughly irrelevant.

Remember that new players only have Basic Discovery Scanners good for 500ls range, where most gas giants (and moons) are usually 1,000+ ls away from the star.

To find gas giants and their moons, you'll need to move away from the primary star, or get a better scanner. You can also drop into the NAV point and scan the beacon there for system info.

Lol. Why couldn't they have just named the moons after the planet then, except with "moon" beside the name? Hey we're trying. Give us time. :D

They did - they're just using shortcuts, though. Otherwise, it'll get really unwieldy: some planets have a couple of dozen moons, some of which are orbiting each others, others may have moon-moons of their own.

And how will you handle the cases where 3 or 4 objects orbit each other? Which of them is a planet and which is a moon?

Most planets in E D don't have names and in fact the moon's name (nomenclature) is derived from that of the planet it orbits.

The convention is A1B2 where A is a letter for the star in a system (A, B, C, etc - no letter where only one star) then the number is the number of the planet - 1 being closest to it's star etc then the letter for the moons around that planet A being closest, B, C, etc and where a moon has a satellite that is given a number.

To complicate things, not only do some planets have names, some moons have names too.

The main thing is, welcome and enjoy yourself.
