Blocking feature being abused or was it intended to be this way? FDEV?

LOL again try stepping outside of your box. They dont want to be in a private group lol can you let that sink in?

And we know what happens when a few thousand players form private groups until that private group can't support that many players and new private groups get created.

Players will complain that using private groups with players that aren't very close friends is an abuse of the private group mode.

Stevie, maybe if you and your little group had instead of blocking real PvP players actually tried practicing against them you guys wouldn't have been like lambs led to slaughter in the PvP League? Just a thought.

Oh more salt. LOL no one in Delta blocks to my knowledge. Running security might be hard that way.

That doesnt stop me or anyone else in Delta agreeing that players who dont want to die at trade CGs can/should block the PVPers who just slaughter everyone.

Bash me all you like I can take it :)

Lets make Open great again for all!

Oh, so they are not allowed to play their way and have to play your way...... riiiight.

Can anyone actually tell me what a "real PvP'er" is please?
Because surely they don't mean folks who take over engineered ships and blow up unarmed traders by any chance?
Surely a "real PvP'er" wants to find other "real PvP'er" to test themselves and their skills and set ups - something they can do in a PG :p

Read what I wrote more carefully. People can play however they like, and if that includes hiding behind an abused system like the Block feature and therefore denying themselves the full range of experience that Open provides for then good for them. But StevieG and his peeps had grand plans for the PvP League this early summer, and you can't Block your way to victory there I'm afraid.

@Stevie....sure man, sure. Really looked like it:)

Why there are still discussions about Open PvE?
It will not happen because it doesn't make any sense while having private and solo modes.
Some Commanders pretend to be brave - hey, i play in open and it's so safe and i'm a dangerous Commander - i block you instantly - now fear me? Didn't get it :D

The One-Click-Remove-Threat mentality is annoying somehow.
Play Open the way it's designed or not, simple no?

:D

I'm quite intrigued by this alleged "feature". Some clarification from Frontier on what this actually does and if it is working as intended, would be helpful.

The game is called "elite". That naturally attracts elitists.

Yeah, it's a bit vague. As I understand it it doesn't actually prevent instancing, it just makes it much less likely.

Probably one to ask Dav the next time he's on a livestream.

If all these explorers are able to share this rumor so fast and block the griefer, why don't they just form a private group?

Short story:

Once upon a time, there was a sandbox where all the kids could play in together. Everything was fine and dandy and all the kids were happily playing, building sandcastles, digging holes and whatnot.

One day, two kids came along to the sandbox where all the other kids were playing. These two kids started pushing the other kids around, peeing in the sand, depositing poo in the sand, and ended up punching and kicking the other kids.

This made the other kids very unhappy, because no longer could they play together in the open sandbox without these two kids arriving and ruining everything for the majority of the kids.

The larger group of kids told the owner of the sandbox about this behaviour. The owner thought the two kids were ruining the fun of the majority of the kids who used to enjoy playing in the sandbox. So they set up a way of preventing the majority of kids who didn't want to play with the two unruly kids, from meeting with them.

Eventually word of this method got around, and all the kids who previously were playing happily together, started using this method. No longer would they encounter the two unruly kids in the open sandbox.

What's more, because it was an open sandbox, even more kids could come and play, and they had the choice of being able to meet the unruly kids, or not, or change their minds on that whenever they liked.

The two unruly kids, however, were unhappy. They didn't understand why the other kids didn't want to meet and play with them. For these two kids, kicking down sandcastles, peeing and pooing in the sand, and kicking and punching the other kids was fun, for them - after all, that's what an open sandbox is for, right? So the two unruly kids eventually had no other kids to 'play' with, and there they were, isolated and alone in an otherwise empty sandbox.

They never did understand why it ended up so empty, for them.

The end.

Back in kiddy times, we worked together and teached ratbags a lesson by ourself without the need of a third party ;) So we all could play together in peace.

Here's where I'm coming from so you understand my position and concerns:

I play an RP pirate, with a key principle that I find the most profitable of avoiding trader destruction in nearly all circumstances. I pull a trade ship and make my demand, which is an amount based on the potential cargo space and rank of the player in question, low ranks pay less. If they comply all is good, if they have no cargo I check and either let them go or repeat the demand at a slightly higher amount for lying.

Runners get disabled, I have the weaponry and tools on my pirate Asp, which as you can see makes things interesting and not overpowered, to disable drives and internal modules quite reliably. I then repeat my demand at a higher amount, with special mention that I have hatchbreakers and will force more cargo out than I demanded if noncompliance is met. Almost every noncheater complies at this point, in a few rare cases I had to use a hatchbreaker to show I could take the cargo before I got an acceptance. Sometimes the ship activates self destruct, I hatchbreak twice before they blow up so I get something out of it. Notably if a runner has no cargo and hasn't been rude I tell them that they should comply to a scan next time, but otherwise leave.

Obviously I get quite a lot of loggers, and have been blocked for pulling players (I have only their word that is the case of course, but notably my instancing gets poorer after such comments). But in terms of danger only the exceptionally rude empty cargo runners, empty cargo fighters, or bounty hunters end up dying, barring an unintended accident of course such as the trader ship ramming.

The point I'm making is that nothing I do here would be considered harassment by the FDEV TOS, I'm after cargo RPing the role of space pirate, and if someone doesn't want to meet me they should use solo or private to avoid that. But the block list means that it's unsustainable for me to really keep at this, especially when the bounty hunters I kill block me and stay in Supercruise, which really hurts instancing. If instancing was a comm block only and reporting actual harassment was used this wouldn't be an issue. At most I probably wouldn't mind the block list isolating the player using it into a private instance if a blocked player shows up, since then it doesn't affect everyone else, but that's not how it works.

Well put - I never blocked a pirate and would accept being blown up if I tried to run. Look forward to my T9 if you hang around CGs!

Thank you - I liked this story very much.

Contradictory statement is contradictory.

By the way, I'd lose the hate banner if I were you.

Edit: oh, I see you have now. And replaced it with your forum block list. Interesting. Player who claims that blocking in game is somehow unfair, blocks people on the forums. The irony is strong with this one.

Beautiful... *Wipes a tear away*

I must admit that I'm flying a lot in open. If someone attempts to overengineer-murderhobo me (except real pirates or roleplay), suicidewinder's me or is annoying, it is bye bye block. They can just play in their own galaxy that gets more tiny each time they harass other players.
