Mission boards

I know I am about to start a flame war but all data seems to be from years ago on google so here goes..

How do you mission board hop... I keep hearing people talk about it.. I thought it was as simple as log between solo and open but the boards (while different from one another) don't change with each cycle...

so did they fix the force refresh or am I doing it wrong?

Now before the trolls start in..
1. I mainly play solo and or private group and mainly for RPG purposes so your opinion on board hopping/stacking/whatever you don't like is completely irrelevant to me.
2. while I am not trying to "stack" missions I am trying to work more or less out of a single system and it seems I only get missions I can actually do every once in awhile.

Now that I have had to sound like an *** , hopefully I can get a answer without 6 pages of zomg hacksexploitsbadmanbadman....

Only thing I can comment with is that it seems to be somewhat timed based. Sometimes if you change modes too quickly (ie when no/few missions spawn), and the next board will remain the same. I see no other pattern to it other than time. Give it a min or two between each mode change and it should update.

I personally don't do many missions at all these days, its just painful getting a full board or even a few missions going to a similar location at times. Hope it is on the QoL improvement list for 2.4+

I tend to stick to my orca and pax missions.. but trying to base out of a system and run flights is giving me fits as half the time all there is on the boards if anything is sightseeing missions that want me to travel 12kly... all I want is to be able to bounce trader esque between two systems hauling passengers.

It seems like rep based missions are designed to include either planetary landings or outposts. I've been doing missions for rep, without board hopping, for a couple weeks. Going from newb to Viscount. A few days ago I could finally afford an upgrade from an AspX to a Clipper. That's when I noticed big ships without planetary access doesn't get +++ rep missions other than the extremely rare commodity donation mission. I kept at it for a whole evening to confirm it wasn't just random coincidence. The next day, I switched back to the AspX and was immediately back at the good average of 3-4 good missions per stop.
I don't think board hopping at one location improves the rate much, not to the extent that I'd consider it being worth doing. I mean, play the game vs Menu Loader Simulator 2017 for weeks straight? :)

Sounds like you're doing it right (don't forget, you can also use Private Group mode too) but you've just been unlucky.

Sometimes mode-switching causes a mission board to be repopulated with tasty missions and sometimes it doesn't.

Also, bear in mind that you can "help things along" a bit if you're prepared to be even more dastardly, and aren't worried about your rep' in a system.
If a board is filled with pokey missions that you're not interested in, you can take 'em, quit back to the main station menu, pull up your Transactions HUD, abandon all those missions and then go back into the mission board to see what new missions are available.

On a less slippery note, don't forget to quit out of the mission board after accepting missions and then go back into it to see if the missions you took have been replaced with other missions you might like too.

Once you've squeezed the mission board completely dry in one mode, then log out, log into a different mode and do it all again.
And then go and make a cuppa, allow the game clock to tick over, and do it all again before actually lifting your wheels. ;)

Well you didn't have to sound like one, you chose to.

So in the spirit of companionship, since I mainly play in solo your ability to board-hop is completely irrelevant to me. Laters.

guess its true... there is absolutely no way to head off ALL the trolls...

Right, time to put this misconception to the sword once and for all.

Changing modes doesn't refresh the missions; there is no mechanism to refresh missions. This is why all those calls for a "refresh" button are pointless.

The server you connect to determines your mission list. Sometimes (not all) when you mode switch it also switches servers. This provides the illusion that you've somehow made it refresh. You didn't, sorry. You can verify this by looking at the server you've connected to on the main screen; if it didn't change, you don't get new missions.

The mission list is a queue (for each server). Around 10-15 minutes a new one appears at the top and pushes an old one out the bottom.

You can actually exploit this. If you can take a juicy mission, complete it and recycle back to the same server (and the mission hasn't fallen off the queue), you can take it again. This is especially nice if you have mining cargo to offload, or are doing a passenger mission circuit.

Here endeth the lesson.

hmm well that sucks... I just wanted a way to get rid of the "go to sag A" "go to great annihilator" "go to beezulbub's naughty moon" over and over... not asking for 30 of em but a nice these 20 people wanna go 2 systems over every once in awhile isn't asking a lot

Nah not trolling, it's this statement though 'while I am not trying to "stack" missions I am trying to work more or less out of a single system and it seems I only get missions I can actually do every once in awhile.'

What you mean I assume is 'I have a ship that can do only one type of mission and I want the board to spawn loads of them in the one system I'm trying to push rep in'

Either the game does that, which is great for you but lousy for anybody who wants some variety, or it spawns loads of every type of mission in which case we're back to the board taking up to a minute to load and the server crapping out all the time. You're imposing two fairly strict limitations on your own gameplay (location and mission type) and then expecting the game to accomodate your limitations. Nothing to do with OMG TEH EXPLOITZ it's just an unrealistic expectation that you have.

The part where I said I don't care was just the truth though.

If you'd read any of the posts what I want is pax missions to spawn that don't involve 14kly trips.. and yes I am trying to stay in and around shintra and neuntes because I am trying to do the whole space delta bit... but I cant when half the time neither system offers me passenger missions that are not sightsee'rs...

and no its not a rep chase or a credits chase... I like creating my own little narrative about a spaceliner moving folks to and fro... until recently this wasn't an issue but over the past week or so all the refugee/rich kid/ vacationers type passage missions have vanished from jamesons and all I ever see is the silly 15kly ones I have 0 intrest in doing in an orca
