Payout Cap on Missions

Guardian missions paid out 100 million for scanning things, before it was dialed back to a measly 10 mil. (Edit: This is the bonus, not the payout)

100 mil (in my opinion) is too much of a payout for one mission, regardless of difficulty (and it wasn't that hard to do.) That's enough for a Beluga Liner with change or 2/3'ds of an Anaconda, and that got me thinking.

Should there be a payout cap on missions? An upper limit that will never be exceeded, no matter what. In my mind, 5 mil is enough of a payout to keep people interested in any given mission, especially when stacking is commonplace. Passenger missions offer WAY more than that for ultra long distance trips. There's folks who fly their A-rated Corvette with 35 mil+ rebuy who will say it isn't enough, but honestly, it is. No one ever promised mission payouts would always exceed your ship rebuy costs. There should be risks involved with all classes of ships when you clear the mail slot.

CG's pay out 25-35 mil for the top slots, but you do work for them. I think they should be maintained while enforcing a cap on regular missions. Why? Player engagement. If CG's are worth a lot, you'll get a lot of players going for it and interactions with other players are where the fun is. Keeping good payouts in CG's make sense.

I've never had issues making money since v1.0, but then again, I've always played Elite as a slow burn. Making money has always been secondary to me and my play style. I know there's impatience in some players to get the biggest and shiniest now, Now, NOW... However, that's on them and just means they'll burn out faster.

Regardless, I do feel some sort of mission payout cap is a good idea so people can play the game, instead of gaming the play.

Don't try to fix something that isn't broken or do you think that everybody is making too many credits?

What?

When did that happen?

It was only a couple of weeks ago that it was nerfed from Cr200m to Cr110m.
And it's now been nerfed again, down to Cr10m?

Or has somebody been sprinking the Onionhead on their sandwiches?

The long range passenger missions you mention can involve travelling over twenty thousand light years and back. If they only paid five million credits they wouldn't be worth doing, you might as well just go exploring without the time restriction on getting back. Even twenty million isn't a great return on some of those missions considering the effort involved. Apart from those, I'm not seeing missions that offer much more than five mil on a regular basis anyway.

Yes reduced to 10 mil. Sorry

You used to get 101 mil for the scans, plus 100 mil bonus for completion. Now the 100 bonus has been reduced to 10 but you still get the same money for the scans. So it was 201, now it's 111.

Anybody who thinks those passenger missions are a "get rich quick" opportunity has definitely been sprinkling Onionhead on their sandwiches.

Even if you assume the player is using the best possible ship and has menu-logged to fill it up with people who all want to go to the same place, you're looking at Cr25m a pop for a trip to Sag A so, with 10 people aboard for the same trip, you're looking at Cr250m.
For a trip to Sag A which is going to take roughly 50 hours of play.
Assuming none of your passengers throw a strop and refuse to pay.

That equates to around Cr5m per hour, which isn't bad if you're willing to face 50 hours of "honk - jump - scoop" to achieve it.
Alternatively, if you were looking for an excuse to go to Sag A anyway, sure. Throw a bunch of passengers in your ship and take 'em with you for the extra cash.

Simple fact is, you can throw 3 people in the back of almost any ship and earn Cr5m for a 15 minute commuter trip, which then leaves you 45 minutes to go and do something interesting instead.

What?

Which of those answers is now correct?

If they HAVE reduced the total payment to Cr10m (as opposed to reducing the bonus) then I despair.

My answer is correct. Only the completion bonus has been reduced, the 101 mil payment for the scans remains the same. That's why the OP said the 100 mil had been reduced to ten mil - he was referring to the bonus not the total payout.

I thought that's where we were. [up]

That's not what the OP said though.

You DID get Cr100m for scanning things, and you (hopefully) still do. You ALSO got a Cr100m bonus and that has been reduced to Cr10m.

Actually you're right, it's not particularly clear when put like that.

I went from this Reddit post. I didn't do the scan missions myself.

I was hoping people would comment on the topic. Seeing as it's a discussion forum and all. It's that or another wild speculation thread on Thargoid, so I went with the one with actual potential for intelligent discussion.
