Thargoid Interactions

Last night I got pulled out of Witch Space two jumps into the Pleiades Sector and about three jumps away from Maia on my way to see Palin about some engineering. I had my CRC on board at the time but it was empty.

There was no interaction. They just went hostile on me immediately. MY DBE has no offensive weapons only countermeasures.

I lost power and by the time I managed to get power back online and escape the shields were down and integrity was at 64%.

Nasty little critters... I was hoping for a more "productive" cultural encounter.

Interesting. Have you ever shot them, even once? Or anything they might have seen as hostile?

Trying to figure out why some encounters apparently turn hostile immediately and some don't.

They're just mimicking player behaviour. Some attack without reason. Some attack if they have any justification or 'justification'. Some don't attack.

No never, as that was my first encounter with them. They just knocked out my power and then proceeded to attack me with their little Thargons. I was extremely lucky to escape destruction.

I'm getting tired of the thargons.
No real counter and utterly devastating to my python.
Please fdev screw your hardpoints give me a useful counter measure for those things. Or a SLF on a ship that's clearly big enough.

Before I get slammed for ranting they took two rings of shields and 70% hull whilst winged with 3 cmdrs. 600shields 2,080armor fully repaired.

Any tips.

Very lucky!

Maybe they detected that your CRCs are composed of MAs & they wanted you to eject them, which you can't of course! Lol, but maybe that's why?
But interesting to know that a DBX can get out of a hostile EMP situation, don't think I need to worry in my FDL then :).
Oh & curious that your shields must have been doing something (even though power has gone down!) seeing as they were down when your power came back on line!
Or were your shields taken down only after power came back on?

Here's my full recollection:

Hyperspace instability.

Pulled back into normal space and the 'goids dropped down in front of me.

As far as I can remember I did't even have time to lock a scan onto them before they took my power down.

First Thargon salvo delivered and things started to look a bit shaky as far as survival went.

As power was restored blew chaff and boosted away. Shields went down.

More salvo strikes as I spun up the FSD.

Escaped. (Whew!)

All my ships (where possible) are equipped with chaff and point defense. I think all the time I spent a couple of years ago avoiding destruction running smuggling missions kept me in good stead as far as diversion and escape went.

Nice going :), although apparently chaff has no effect with Thargoids now, they've adapted (since 2.4.02).

So it sounds like your shlds were taken down just after power was restored then.

Pulling back to normal space.

Take a look at this - seems my missile that hit just after the Thargoid entered the wormhole pulled it back - slow motion at the end:

Thank you! Interesting, yet unsure what to take away from the info there in the acoustic analysis.

Kind of figured they'd disregard the Soontil stuff.

The main takeaway is that there is no correlation between the sounds they make and the markings/logos they have. They do have a special interest in Escape Pods because they always emit the same sound when they get ready to scoop one. If they scoop any other object the emit a different set of sounds.

Yeah; I think that is the most likely scenario given at least one Thargon salvo strike that followed the first strike while power was down.

Chaff? Adapting? Yeah; I'm sure them little critters are going to continue to make life difficult for humans re: survival.

I can't tell you if my point defense was active against the Thargons after power was restored (and I forgot to check ammo levels before the repair/restock when I got to Palin) as I had quickly gone from:

"Wow! My first Thargoid interaction!"

to;

"Hell...... I'm going to get destroyed".

So I was fully into evade and escape on thrusters using patterns of evasive manoeuvres against missiles I've sort of picked up over the years... don't know if that helped much either.

Yeah; those shields came down pretty quickly. o7 Cmdr!

Honestly, I'm still trying to figure out if there really are two factions of Thargoids. A friend of mine got engaged for at least 30 to 45 seconds of direct fire from the Thargon fighters and suffered little hull damage. It was rather surprising. To add to it, I witnessed the Thargoid back off when my friend did. Didn't get any recording of it, but I'm seriously contemplating if perhaps there's perhaps a salvaging faction of Thargoid, and perhaps a militaristic Thargoid faction. Anyone think that be possible at all?

Back trying to bribe the Thargoids....

Tried dropping 60 MA's this time (Expensive pets these flower ships... in time, if not in credits!).

Again the first Thargoid starts hoovering them up, and after a little while the second one turns up.
It EMP's me again, so I am disabled.
It then begins to feast with its companion.

Once done the original Thargoid boosted out, the second scanned and recovered what it wanted from the wreck site then also boosted out.

And that's it! I haven't been able to get more than 1 Thargoid in a USS and no more than 2 when I drop "treats".

All I have found so far is that the Thargoid in the USS doesn't EMP you, but the second who drops in does.
And to get the second to drop in you need to drop some "bait".

Lol, so now you've stuffed your Thargoid pets ;), are they good buddies of yours? Green in contacts or radar?

Well their are supposed to be 2 factions(races?) of Thargoids, the Klaxians & Oresians (spelling?), with the Klaxians attacking & ousting the Oresians, but I'm not convinced that both these races are here, AFAIK no one has seen 1 Thargoid attack another, which you would expect if both these races were here. So perhaps your right, maybe their is just 1 race here atm with different factions.

Something creepy - first encounter!

Just looked up a Non-Human Signal Source in Pleiades Sector MN-T C3-1.
Saw a Thargoid - my first one ever! (I'm in an unarmed DBX)
It scanned me and moved off into the green cloud. It was going through the wreckage of this smashed up FAS:

I found some dropped cargo and an occupied escape pod about 3km into the cloud. I thought I'd wait till the Thargoid moved on then rescue the poor fella. But the Thargoid hoovered up the escape pod and lit out of there immediately.

REALLY gave me the creeps.

And they definetly get angry if you steal an escape pod from them [alien]

But they're slower than an AspX that can do 480 m/sec :p

Bill

<<wondering what the heck the green slime is eating away at his hull :O

You can also summon a second Thargoid ship by dropping 5 Thargoid Sensors. Another guy told me that you can do the same thing with 5 Thargoid Probes. I'm guessing if you drop 5 units of any combination of TS, TP, or TL you'll get a second Thargoid.

I dropped Thargoid Resin, Technology Samples, and Biologial Matter and they are not interested in any of those. They do like slaves and imperial slaves (and I think "Master Chefs" but I haven't tested that myself).
