Release EDDI - Windows app for immersion and more

Hi.

I perused back a few pages but I can't find anyone else with this issue. Mainly after 2.4, the EDSM plugin has broken for me. If I want to update my traveled systems in EDSM, I have to manually send the log. I haven't changed any settings and I've used EDDI for a long time.
My EDDI is currently version 2.3.1 and it does allow me to log on to the Frontier API.

EDDI 2.3.1 doesn't know about the changes FDev made for ED 2.4. If you update to EDDI 2.4.0-b5 it should be fine. Despite being marked as a beta, b5 has been very stable in our testing. The beta designation is more to indicate that some areas are still in progress.

I'm having the oddest issue, not with EDDI mind you, but with using EDDI with VA. I think it has something to do with the audio output type in VA, but still need to investigate.
My question was, can I install EDDI into a separate location than the VA plugin folder and run it as a standalone along side VA?
Cause the plugin option is giving me this issue where suddenly the volume of either EDDI or VA peak. Suddenly the voice response comes at full volume. Tried different audio enhancements, tried disabling all enhancements, tinkered with individual app volumes, windows mixer etc.
Disabled the VoiceAttack plugin option from EDDI too, but still the plugin gets initialized on VA startup and if I have EDDI running, I'm hearing everything in double.
Only thing I've noticed is, that running either VA with EDDI uninstalled or EDDI standalone without VA being on, everything works as intended, no random volume fluctuations.
Also, might add that none of this happened on my old analog headset, it started with this wireless usb one I got about a week ago...

EDIT: Ok, managed to separate VA and EDDI, everything seems to be working properly now. My hunch is this is an issue with the VA audio output mixing EDDI and VA together and it somehow gets all screwed up with USB audio.
Anyway, seems to be working now.

I'm sorry if this was asked an infinite number of times before but, as a windows 7 user, are there any free text to speech that don't suck as bad as the default one?

I have to agree with Nidhöggr and J. Calvert. I purchased Ivona Amy (British English) and found it to be very close to the original ship voice. I won't use anything else now. :)

@quester91 actualy i won't bother with the free ones, i tried a lot of them and they all sucked, a lot.
take a look at ivona voices, a single voice ain't expensive http://harposoftware.com/en/2-main/s-1/brand-ivona
for english i would go with the UK ones

Thanks guys.

I don't like the british ones they're kinda.. off, the australian on the other hand sounds much better.

So, you're saying that 2.3 will never work with the API again, and that it's obsolete?

More or less. It won't crash or anything, but 2.4 has meant significant changes to the whole 3rd party ecosystem so the upgrade is necessary for everything to continue working together.

To elaborate, this is what I've been working on for the past week.

FDEV broke what used to be a single cAPI query (/profile) into three (/profile, /market, and /shipyard). And due to a quirk where the station shipyard data doesn't become available until 5 sec (ish) after the first /shipyard query, you have to query /shipyard again... for a total of four cAPI queries!

The good news is that I have EDDN market and outfitting updating working again, with the added bonus of shipyard updating now (for the first time) being functional.

The bad news is you wont see this fix (and others!) until the beta-6 update... which I'm expecting will become available this week. :)

EDMC - recent commodity (Market) updates flowing

EDDI - no commodity (Market) updates for 8+ days
https://ross.eddb.io/eddn/log?parsi...ma_sub_group=&system_id=&station_id=&body_id=

BTW - this is not a EDDI bashing thing, I am trying to figure out it out \ whats going on etc with EDDI if EDMC appears to be working?

Can someone confirm 'Market Information Update' is working? I tried to no avail... Ship Role defaults to Multi-purpose, but the script didn't say anything on a market update.

-=DruiD=- and punkerich, read my above comment about FDEV changes to the cAPI.

I have market updating working again in beta-6, which should be 'on the streets' soon.

Nice one, mate. I extremely appreciate the efforts and dedication of the new team.
:)

edit: having re-read my and your post it could be i was misunderstood.
I meant the Speech responder 'market information updated' for the currently docked station.
Could be related, though.

any hurt feelings by just upgrading to the latest beta?

Absolutely not, but that would be a nice thing to know before trying multiple times to make it work with 2.3.
2.4 is beta after all, and I usually don't install those unless I want to test things and report bugs, which is kinda what betas are for despite what everyone doing the ED betas think ;)

They're related, which was why I directed you to the other comment. Can't get a 'Market Information Update' message if there's no market data. [big grin]

HSC plugin API and EDDI API

Can the new Dev EDDI team working on EDDI, keep in mind Voice Attack's HSC Plugin, as the NEW 2.4 Astra profile ( other voices will catch up) is using HSC plugin to keep Voice Attack in sync.

As a result of this newer better coding and layout within HSC voices like Astra, Ive started a new ED Voice Attack profile. This is the full thread http://voiceattack.com/SMF/index.php?topic=1486.0

At the moment CONFLICTS are 'not happening' ?, between HSC plugin API and EDDI API, but I feel that is more by luck than by design

EDDI can be used as a 'stand alone', BUT many Players are using EDDI with Voice Attack, so these API readers need to work in harmony

In short would like the new EDDI dev team to view Voice Attack HSC API plugin as the default API for Voice Attack, which it is now, as the new HSC Voice Profiles are heavily relying on the HSC API plugin, to work its magic within Voice Attack. Please check out the new Astra Profile, and you'll see.

The last thing anyone wants is these forums ( EDDI & Voice Attack / HSC voices ) is players running back and forth, tying to fix API conflicts.

*Note..... given HSC voices and Voice Attack are both commercial enterprises, I say if anyone has to BEND in the wind , its the EDDI Dev team , having said that, I'm sure Gangrel at HSC forums, would be very happy, there was effort , to avoid any possible future conflicts, for players , using the HSC plugin API with HSC Voices, along side EDDI.

We all know Third Party Apps enhances the Elite Dangerous experience .. for this end, harmony between Apps is a must.

Yes, thank you, I do know what a beta is for.

It is, I'm afraid, a fact of the 3rd party ED developer's life that FDev don't regard their API and journal formats as in any way contractual and will break them without notice, even between beta and release.

It follows that there will be an inevitable period where 3rd party devs are in a catch-up mode where only their beta releases are capable of dealing with the new formats, but those beta releases haven't been tested in anger yet.

Users who are prepared to help out during these periods are always hugely valued. Those who just snipe: not so much.
