I mean, why is a fight so important that you ABSOLUTELY have to blow up the other ship to get the win?

So, game mechanics that work when the ship blows up and and that don't work if it logs out.
 
Summarize the vid for the rest of us - I'm dying to know as I agree with him. I mean, why is a fight so important that you ABSOLUTELY have to blow up the other ship to get the win?

Please allow me to answer your question with a question of my own: say that you and I are playing a game of chess, and just as you are preparing to put my king in checkmate I angrily sweep all of pieces off of the board and then run out of the room slamming the door as I go--would that be a satisfying conclusion of our match to you?

As one pro-PVP guy told me years ago - "It's about fear - if I don't make other players suffer and fear me, when what is the point of me investing time in a game?"

As for the chess analogy above - if mate is prepared, the game is already over :D

The daft thing about this argument is that when I've indulged in fight club-style shenanigans, it's usually to 10% hull or some such. Winning is winning. If I flee, or refuse to fight, or anything, really - the other guy just 'won'. Didn't he?

Chess is a really bad analogy for this. It's normal for a player to resign as soon as they see no chance of winning. A chess player who complained about opponents not continuing to play hopeless games because they wanted to actually reach checkmate would be a laughing stock.

The sweeping of the board and slamming the door is imagined. Looking at it objectively, disconnecting is more analogous to silently getting up and walking away. Either way, for me it would diminish my opinion of my opponent, but not my satisfaction from winning. Taking it a step further, all somebody has to do (in any real world or online game) is say 'good game' or whatever before walking away and I'm totally happy with it.

So we have a winner! From the purely cerebral point of view, ANY combat avoidance, whether it be a hi-wake, low-wake and thence winning of any subsequent interdiction mini-games, any form of 'departure' from the arena, 'legal' (15 second timer), 'illegal' (task-kill, or whatever), the 'opponent' WON! Done, dusted, and set in stone (or the precious metal of choice). From here we have to assume that the insistence of an antagonist on realizing his 'kill' is purely and unutterably puerile. Though his posting of a 'look the swine ran away' video someplace is not.

Well, yeah, I would assume that (not knowing the rules of chess here) that you have effectively forfeited the game, making me the winner.

I love to win.

Even if that was not the case, you would be the one looking like a tool for tossing the pieces, literally, so yeah, another win for me.

It's just a game.

That's it though, isn't it? This should be all that matters. "Hey dude, you won!""....."but I didn't even deploy hardpoints yet"...."yeah, sure, but you WOULD have won...".....

Of course, I'm no ganker. Going by all the complaining about people being able to escape combat (legitimately or otherwise), it seems that many players' satisfaction unfortunately derives almost entirely from inflicting loss on their opponents, with little care for the actual fight or the thrill of victory.

You will win, but that's beside the point.

Good luck getting anywhere with merrits by just killing commanders. Even if you find a buddy who would agree to fly to you in a sidey again and again, you still will get nowhere when numbers are considered.

Yeah, the same one that got capped at 1 mil because the abuse options totally overwhelm the use options for this feature.

Both features were obviously designed for PVE, using them with PVP produces unintended results that don't make much sense. Somebody had a delusion that using PVE features unchanged with PVP would be a good idea and we are basically living with the results. This applies to CLogging as well.

So again - it does not seem that there is an authentic game reward outcome (other than piracy) that is impacted by c-logging. So why would FDEV place this anywhere near the importance of bobbleheads? There really are core game mechanics shortcomings that need more attention than this - from missions, exploration, C and P, QOL, updating the interface, atmospheres, etc. etc. c-logging - really?

My Connection is ok.
I just logged out via the menu in the way your game offer to me with a 15 Second danger delay timer. Please check your logs carefully and ripley next time before you contact me in this way. I decided to change the Session to Single Player Mode due to continous Interruptions by another Player i dont want to interact with. If you dont like this, than change your log out mechanic in the way it will satisfy you.
Be sure that Nobody and i really mean Nobody will tell me, when i have to leave a Game, in this case via the main menu Option ‚back to Main Menu‘.

You dont belong in open. It doesnt matter if you want to interact with them or not...
