The epic win of Beyond

Beyond is a win because it will make game better for those who actually play it.

/mic drop /thread

Surely - if we get rid of out shiny white armour and dismount our trusty steeds - we need to be a little more fair about it and suggest Beyond at least needs to make some truly solid improvements to what it's trying to improve? ie: We have FD here making a statement (seemingly), that they acknowledge the core gameplay is still rather shallow after 3+ years, so here we are spending a year improving areas of it for you.

Now personally, I'm expecting mining and exploration to give us some nice improvements, showing us that FD have seemingly significantly raised the bar on the scope/scale for what it's now trying to add. If they instead give us - somewhat like the past two years ethos - nice little "safe" bolt on additions, then I will be very disappointed personally.

And if the payable DLC at the end of the year is not a significant thing too... I'll be very very disappointed.

I wonder if Wing missions will give us an indication if they have significantly raised their development bar or it's still at basically limbo levels? Personally I'm not expecting anything significant until Q4. But it had better be (finally) truly impressive stuff IMHO!

This I have to disagree with. What this statement (seemingly) means when I hear it is "We thought what we did was good at the time, but we and our players have grown a bit and we see where it can be improved, partly based on player feedback and partly due to a few ideas of our own." Maybe a little of "We really didn't know how to implement some of it but now we have a handle on it."

The Beta is coming way sooner than expected, very pleasant surprise. Also, it's free, another very good thing

This is all a lot of us were asking for actually. Some good news and a timeline that wasn't dragging out for 6 months before we saw anything new or interesting happen.

FDev listened which is GREAT! :)

That would work if this was a direct update of '84 Elite but we had '93 Frontier Elite II with five times the gameplay inbetween, all we needed was updated mechanics / graphics but what we got was a beautifully rendered, nerfed version for multiplayer - a multiplayer that gives the players less agency than most themeparks. Along with a glacially slow update cycle (but a steady stream of buyable knick knacks). IMHO.

You realize there's a big difference between a paint job and coding a full-scale galaxy, yes? Also different people working on it. The people coding the new planetary surface engine aren't the same people doing the bobbleheads, the latter of which isn't exactly complex modeling.

There's only three games that have even tried to do something on this scale. Of the three, I'm far more impressed with this one.

Maybe.. Maybe not...

What ever the reason though, IMHO this year needs to show a marked improvement in designs and desired goals..

We ALL have things we want to see "improved" in the game... and all waiting, too. For some to speculate it's "doomed" before it fails is absurdity, however.

It's 2 weeks into a new year and people haven't even *tested* the content and complaining... what does this tell you?

Don't know what it tells me as it seems to have little to do with my post? - IMHO this year needs to show a marked improvement in designs and desired goals..

I'm referring to the general attitude of those complaining about something that hasn't even happened yet- which has in turn set a tone for the boards and responses.

Sorry, should have clarified that I'm not "singling you out" here- if you look back in the posts you'll see I've said the same thing before you posted in this thread.

Agreed... Calling this year a disaster seems odd to me. Unless you're of course projecting the last two years of design choices onto it :)

And if people cannot bring themselves to come to terms with such, that's not on FD. Quite simply put, that's on the players themselves for not making the decision to spend their valuable time more wisely. ;)

I don't even recommend that. Look at MWO. It's moved far beyond the GoldMech fiasco, and their devs (now that literal criminals are not their bosses) are finally also making the SP campaign game I wanted in the first place. If that pile of disaster can stay afloat and even thrive then anyone has a chance to recover from anything.

Well, I'm happy with the game.
I play mostly solo, don't mind the occasional love shown to multiplayer.
I enjoyed the engineers, not perfect but made me play differently.
I'm very pleased the game doesn't tell me my story and I can pace the game to my mood.
So........ looking forward to new stuff.

Sometimes I wonder if I’m playing the same game as the complainers.
You too?

I read some whiner posts that just sounded like they were playing a different game. Honestly, my suspicion is that some of these complainers only register to post their stuff and they don't even have the game or ever played it.

I’ve been playing since launch, still enjoying myself and am looking forward to the coming improvements.
I only started a little over a year ago, my first reaction was a bit mixed, and did have some experiences that kind'a put me off for a couple of weeks, but then came back and now, it's a game I simply can't put down.

free? silly me, i paid for the base game and then some horizons.

As did all of us- and although "updates" to any piece of software are expected to be free- additional "features" being added for free aren't.

Usually when you buy any piece of software, it's like buying any other product- it's sold "as is". IMO a lot of people get confused by the difference between "something that addresses an existing problem" and a "feature".

I truly enjoy the game, but, I HATE the Engineers and the unbalance it created, along with the ridiculous grind. So no matter what they do to the game, it will be an improvement, IMO.

Im very excited for the Beta, and the new ship!!! Maybe it can replace my Cutter.
