So.....that Tech Broker

I agree, we have not seen it yet, however, what we did see, was again, 30 of some mat, 24 of another, and 40 of yet another. Not incredibly confidence inspiring. Anyway, I will hold out hope, and I do feel that FD have come to realise they need to work on the base game and get some of the place holders sorted out. This was pretty clear from the first snippets of info about Beyond.

Also, remember that my thoughts are coming from a known historical context, not the unknown future. I would think release is the best time to judge though, Beta is still a fine tuning stage.

Z...

What we did see was a tiny snippet without showing us properly how it works. Adam has already said that we will get access to items by doing certain activities. Also what we have seen may not be what people think it is.

I certainly hope not. Driving the SRV makes me sick, the last thing I need is to have to farm 3 x 30+ mats for some new shiny...

Engineers also promotes different game activities, and we saw how well that went down (I had no problem with it!)

I had no problem with it either. But I will prefer to wait and see before commenting on how it will be a great big grind.

I have a feeling that the materials broker will be the deciding factor, when it comes to grindyness.

One of the most annoying aspects of material gathering is having to space materials to make room for the stuff you need 'now'. If these materials could be swapped for useful stuff even at a poor exchange rate, I think the process would feel more rewarding.

It went well for those who engage with those activities. It is a grind for those who just want their ships modified.

That's not really an unique issue and it would be sad to see wasted efforts to mitigate that. People wanting just ships from ED will see everything as grind. They claim that activities aren't 'good enough', but they know it is just an excuse. Same as board flipping really.

What I want is to see those activities better integrated, explained, directions and hints given to players. Make it enjoyable for those who engage. Ignore moaners.

I fully trust mats broker, that's why I am hoarding all stuff I get from pew pewing NPCs :) Takes longer, but I expect that to pay back when Q1 lands.

Thankfully the days of having to space materials is coming to an end, so getting loads of these materials may not be a big chore.

Personal narrative would have been.

"Oh, how did you unlock the shock cannon?"

"The tech broker in Eranin told me his friend had crashed on a planet while looking for some device or other, he gave me some rough co-ordinates, and I grabbed the black box, which held the data he needed to update his Shock Cannon tech."

"Oh, really? Broker in Sol had me steal some Technical blueprints from an imperial pirate."

That's personal narrative.

Not

"How did you unlock the shock cannon?"

"Oh, I went to a planet and drove around shooting rocks for hours, you?"

" yeah... same."

I mean...

Personal narrative could also mean:

Cmdr A went for the Shock Cannon, and the Enzyme Rack for personal and inner-RP-dialogue reasons.
Cmdr B went for the Offensive Slug Launcher and the Rubber Duck Limpet for personal and inner-RP-dialogue reasons.

Although, I don't believe Personal Narrative was used in the right context on the stream.

It is still personal narrative. I understand it is disappointing for those who thought it is some personalized story thread. While FD have tech to do that, I guess we are not there yet.

We just mean that it’s different from everyone unlocking the same thing... and building a ship that feels like it’s your own. I think that phrase will make more sense as time goes by.

To paraphrase (because Ed is way too nice to actually put it like this...)

"It's to try to create the same sense of ships being individual or distinctive in some way rather than identikit cookie-cutter builds, which was the entire point of engineering originally, before the river of tears"

I so want an Offensive Slug Launcher now ;)

that's fine when making an argument. when you're making a game it's not that much about any point you're trying to make, but about what you actually create and deliver.

so after several batches of 'new thingies you have to grind for and will utterly disfigure the original combat model which was actually a lot of fun' have failed to make the game more interesting to me, here comes the new batch.

the point? audience loves carrots, it seems. business as usual, then.

i'll leave to the clever reader to figure out what was the point of 'improve core aspects of the game' in beyond ...

Some people on this thread reminds me of brexiters that voted leave so they can control the emigration from middle eastern countries.

I remember those interviews. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. And also being taken in by the battle bus, thinking that leaving the EU would save the NHS.

but it will... think of that 350 million

arguably i am a bit biased, given I work for the European Bio-informatics Institute

No. There isn't "tons of content." Seriously, just stop. It's gotten pathetic already.

We who claim grindy shallowness cite examples. We offer suggestions.

But you "plenty of content" folks...funny how you can't actually SUPPORT that claim...very telling.

Lots of repeating the same few transient tasks...isn't content.

There is plenty of content, the problem is, you think that engaging in any of it is "a grind".
