What the heck is that sound?

If you sit a station for a little while you hear all sorts of things, from heavy machinery to idle radio chatter, but every once in a while I hear this one sound and it's driving me mad.

It this short 1 second trilling sound that happens when I've been sitting on the pad for a while, that sounds like it's got something to do with station services--has a similar quality to the sounds used for your ship ui when contacts are found/lost or like when interacting with station services menus (maybe with a touch of the current warbling sound you get in engineering when your roll for the special effect, but like sped up more like a "chiming"), but I have no idea what it is. It happens infrequently enough, that I never remember to like time it to see if it happens at a regular frequency. But I can never tell what it's supposed to be indicating. Does anyone else know what I'm talking about?

Is it the space madness?

I hear something. Hard to explain it sound but its noramlly on a low frequency and wavers and it goes for about a 1 ½ second. I have never been sure if its just mysound system thats kinda old or the game

ooorrr... we both just have space madness :D

Sometimes I start hearing chirping sounds. I think it's the Thargoids watching.

Did you know the DSS does similar purring noises as the Thargoid probes? Now you know.

Similarly in the hangar I sometimes hear a ragdoll effect noise, if anyone plays Skyrim you'll know what sound that is.

Are you hearing the blackbird?

In supercruise I often hear the blackbird chirping away, maybe you can hear it on the pad too.

I think is must have been in the Croft's garden when they recorded background ambiance at one point.

Please don't take my blackbird away.

:)

I think I know the sound you're talking about.

I think it's the sound that happens when you change paintjobs. Except it's much louder.

It's a sort of metallic, money jangling electronic sound, kind of trilling at the same time. Hard to describe because it's a synthesised noise, really.

But yeah, if you're sat in a hangar, this sound plays quite loudly. I think it's the 'paintjob changing' sound.

Not someone calling you on voice comms is it?

"How long will you be on the pad for? How many re-sprays does one man need? We've got 200 orphans in the cabins and one minute of oxygen..."

I think I know the sound you're talking about. When you lift off, park yourself at the tip of the comms spire at the back of the station and listen. You'll hear the sound on a regular basis.

If you run the sound through Audacity and spectrogram it, you'll see shapes and glyphs that look kind of like letters and numbers. We were looking at these about a year ago in CoR, and Canonn were looking some months before that.

Is it hidden messages in the game? Something like these...

Yeah! It sounds just like that, but shorter. Just cycling every once in a while, on either the station services screen or the ready to launch menu.

No, not space comms, it happens whether instanced with someone or not.
