Tried the Meta Build

Put down the Frags and loaded up the PA's and Rails.

Boogied over to Bunda. Oh a FAS.

Blew up from overheating.

Have Overcharged Dazzle pa's and super pen rails in my FDL.

Do I have to run heat sinks or is it a complete overhaul on modules to make them lightweight ?

I know this is sensitive info so I understand if I get no replys.

You need focused PAs (for the shot speed) with a heat reducing bonus. The extra shot speed will help you land more hits maximizing dps per heat generated. You need to have 4 pips to weapons when you fire (weapon pips increase heat handling), and you need to exercise restraint. Fire only when you are sure of a hit, then recharge or fire the rails. Also, your railguns, at least one should be feedback, to negate shield cells, and both should be long range with a heat bonus, use these after the joust while recharging from range or when your enemy fires a shield cell. When their shield are down focus on super pen hits to modules.

I dint think there's any point re-engineering your stuff now with the changes coming in 3 days. Good luck, hope it helps.

I'm no expert by a long shot, but this explains the overheating. You at least have good thermal reduction secondaries as well?

Also, yes heat sinks are a good thing to have with such weapons or ships that run SCB's.

EDIT: The above is very sound advice. Couldn't think of the blueprints to suggest.

I always thought it was 3x efficient PAs (or focused w/ thermal reduction) and 2 LR rails with thermal reduction.

You could try the efficient PAs at least, you don't have to fish for secondaries that way.
 
The whole Most Effective Thing Available has never cut it for me, so you won't find me running around with these builds on hand - of course, a large portion of that is due to the fact that I don't PvP and don't want to PvP. However, I am not unfamiliar with PA's and Railguns, and even PA's and Rails together - I have an Ocra that uses an Advanced Plasma Accelerator and a pair of Imperial Hammers. Fun ship to fly, spent the day terrorizing NPC's in it as a matter of fact. Even took out a few of those ubiquitous Convoy Beacons in Anarchy space just because I'm sick of seeing them.

Heat isn't really that big of an issue - PA is G5 Overcharged with Phasing Sequence. PA's are both Super Penetrator, since I don't always have the option of hitting with both at the same time, and it's just as easy to snipe out a shield generator entirely than worry about SCB's.

I agree with all of this except that you won't be able to get the PAs with a thermal reduction secondary at all after Tuesday, but the rails will get it automatically with the experimental effects.
So there's a certain logic to rolling some PAs before then.

They did say they'll be looking at those too but who knows when that might be.
 
Only 5 efficient PAs can satisfy my cravings for boom! With a decent roll you can fire all 5 at once (on my FdL).

Why on earth would you put Overcharged on Plasmas lol. Use efficient if you're using them on a FDL. If you're going with the 3.0 meta, then do focused PAs on your FAS.

OP, seriously though, I run 5 PA's on my FDL, efficient ofc. Got a nice G1 OC power plant though...+12% power with no thermal efficiency reduction. I have another that +18% but heat efficiency is .44

Is there? I wouldn't place a bet on it. Instead, i'd like to recap rails during the last beta. People saw that the heat reduction was not available, so they rushed out to create grandfathered railguns with heat reduction. The next beta patch added heat reduction for railguns.

Now, the beta ended before another patch was provided. But Sandro during the beta acknowledged the problem of rails having heat reduction and PAs not having this. There was one posting of him, where he stated that they intend to look into the issue. There were three weeks between end end of the beta and rolling it out. We've seen big changes done each week of the beta, so three weeks should be sufficient time to do some more adjustments.

Sure it somehow might have gotten lost. Sandro also did not promise fixes, only that they'd also take a look at the matter. But chances are reasonably good, in my eyes, that PAs also got some heat reduction option. (And if they are not there yet, i'm quite sure the community feedback will give FD a reason to look into it again and solve the issue soon. )

Yeah, OP as others have said, it's long range rails and either focused or efficient PA's for PvP, not overcharged.

The rails are good to go in 3.0 with -40% thermal load applied automatically on adding the cascade, super pen or (for PvE) plasma slug special. Just need to re-roll for new g5.

About plasma, basically we're holding our breath and waiting for the patch notes tomorrow. But even if we don't get the -40% then, personally I'm optimistic about getting it soon after.

To be clear, I'm pretty optimistic too.
The response to feedback this time around has been stellar.
