Guardian FSD booster question

My FDL and Corvette can finally travel outside of the Megaship transport thingie!

In fact your FDL and Corvette couldnt even jump within their usual range because off the module is totally not bugged or something [noob]

Absolutely not. Optional slots are important on combat PVP ships and won't be wasted for 10 or 8 Ly. Better use a taxi ship.

Corrected this for you ;)

There are other ships in the game than Corvettes and Cutters... looking forward to watching you put a C5 FSD booster into an imperial Courier....

I just hope this was sarcasm.

If not, please check the available slots on an iCourier.

It's borked. Even the 1H causes my ship to be unable to jump :)

Awesome!

You can already take a Corvette on a long range trip - it just takes some time. 8 ly more doesn't really matter, it does matter if you want to reach that system that is 13 ly away from the one you are currently in ;)

Pre Engineers, my Combat FDL had an 11ly range. And I wanted to travel to a system 13ly away.

Due to the unusually low starfield density around my destination, it took 9 jumps and 3 refuelling stops. :D

I stopped using my FDL after that.

1 Carbon + 1 Vanadium + 1 Germanium

would have solved that specific problem.

The smaller ships don’t typically have internals space to spare anyway, so I’m not sure they’ll even bother to use these. Ships like the Chieftain, Vulture, Diamondbacks, etc, they really can’t spare an internal for something like this. If it had been a utility then they could, but as in internal it’s crowding an already crowded space. Only the larger ships will have the slots to really make use of these, and they can all easily fit the 5H instead of the smaller ones.

Not an explorer myself, but would you seriously consider to increase your jumprange from 50 to 60 LY for the price of 125% higher fuel consumption? Guess you would lose more time scooping than you could actually save. Being flat increases they are less desirable the higher your unboosted jumprange is. For exploration ships I would call them almost completely useless, except if you want to go to otherwise unreachable fringe systems.

Yep, I’ll be using one of these for certain, once the bugs are fixed. Jump range is my number one priority for my ship, its what allows me to reach distant systems along the fringes of the galaxy. I engineer for lightweight everywhere possible and push jump range in favor of every other stat for this reason, so yeah I’d trade fuel use for distance. Fast fuel scoops make this a penalty of only a few seconds per jump, which is easily worth the trade.

Unfortunately I’ll have to go back to my Asp Explorer now as my DBX will no longer be able to fit all of the equipment I’ll want. Just like it was a year ago. Frackin A.

Now that will be neat on a mission conda, trade ships or something like a t10 or corvette.

8 blueprints... I'm finishing the new guardian mission and I got 2 of those. Are we really forced to farm those or go home ?

The worst part is that you have to complete the guardian puzzle and it nets you either 1 weapon blueprint or a module blueprint. And I personally have to travel 1kly to get to the nearest site.

For the FDL I think this applies to PvE too.

If you fit a size 5 one, then you get 10LY more range (depending on loadout, and assuming a maxed G5 FSD, about 60% more) ... but you also increase your fuel usage to the point where you use basically your entire fuel tank every jump.

So ... your options are:
- size 5 FSD Booster
- size 2 scoop
- size 4 shield
- size 4 SCB/HRP
...undershielded unless you have prismatics, and if you need to make more than one jump at once you will be scooping for a very long time.

...or:
- size 5 FSD Booster
- size 4 scoop
- size 4 shield
I'm still not sure you'll break even on travel speed with the extra scooping time, and you've seriously compromised one of the FdL's major combat strengths by fitting an undersized shield with no SCBs.

...and at that point you might be better off just flying a ship with weaker defences but better jump range in the first place.

You'd still be faster in almost all cases flying to where you want to be in an Asp, calling the FDL with ship transfer, and then doing some delivery missions or something with the Asp to pay for the transfer while you wait.

The DBX doesn't have a class 5 compartment anyway :p.

And if jump range is your #1 priority, why don't you take a 'conda? High jump range, space for a large scoop and more internals than you can shake a stick at. Only downside is that it's occasionally hard to find a parking space.

Well I wouldn't call fuel consumption a downside since we have quite efficient fuel Scoops (and, when those are failing, fuel rats :D).

I'd also be thinking more of saving it for when you need that extra 10ly, jumponium-style, and disabling it otherwise.

Also, does the extra 10ly translate to an extra 30ly for a neutron-boosted jump? And don't they use comparatively less fuel in the first place?

Without meaning to be a complaining humbug aren't they reducing the huge scale and distances of the galaxy by adding yet more stuff that can give us bigger jump ranges? Colonia and Sag A are getting into the casual Sunday drive territory. :p

They are not, because decreasing fuel efficiency balances out increased range.

It just shifts your time spend from individual jumps to fuel scooping.

Besides that colonia commutes already are a 3 hour deal.
