Ah, yeah I have 780 Ti O/C to that as well. I don't get any stuttering at the moment though, even inside stations it's fine. But I would like to be able to increase graphics settings. Hopefully patching the game and SDK will improve framerates quite a bit. For example, I doubt Elite: Dangerous has implemented support for time-warping in SDK 0.4... Once we get time-warping implemented, things will get a LOT smoother.

Care to elaborate?

The distance between the rift and camera is altering the fps ... Further away = lower fps

Mines really quite close, on the monitor on my desk with the HOTAS. I need to find a way to move further back and might need to look for a chair with rests either side to mount the HOTAS and potentially the mouse and keyboard as well.

I'm perched a breakfast bar, so monitor is only about 2-3ft away, only problem is when reading side menu text. Although when you clip out the edge of the tracking, the image changes (not sure whats happening) but makes text easier to read!

I'm only doing VR in drabs in Elite, struggling to get a decent frame rate with my settings, and just got my FLY 5 (Cheap *****) flight stick setup, so still adjusting to that!

For me, the DK2 headtracking doesn't work in E:D, although it works OK in the demo scene.
Has anyone else come across this? And how did you fix it?!

Head tracking only doesn't work if you didn't kill wscript.exe in task manager, and then killed OVRService_x64.exe

These have to be killed BEFORE you launch ED, otherwise it wont fire up head tracking.

Also if you didn't do this then the screen will be SBS as well, not even distorted for Rift.

Thanks! It works now.

its not ED related but....

you rifters really should check out the newest demo of live for speed.

So far its the 2nd best example of gaming in the rift imo (after ED of course ;) ).

you need to download the demo, then patch with the rift beta which is linked on their page.

its awesome.

sorry for temporary derail but I think devs who are putting this much love into VR should be supported.

I'vehad an S2 LFS license since I got my DK1 over a year ago. And the DK2 version (0.6F3) is very good indeed.

I'd fully recommend getting LFS S2. And make sure you have a good steering wheel beforehand!

Ok, I've played with the DK2 this weekend, and I dont think I've got it set up right. I'm getting a quite a bit of blur, it feels the clear spot on the leses is really small. I've just used this website, that reckons I need to tweak my IPD down a bit (reckons I should be 68.5mm, and I had it set to 72mm).

I've got the GFX turned down to medium and low on an i7 4770k, GTX 770 rig and I still occasionally get judder.

That said, if I ignore how ...uncomfortable the rift makes me feel, I love being inside it. Elite is amazing with the rift, I actually get vertigo from taking off from a launch pad. On my way back from Eranin 2 warzone, I responded to a distress call from a Lakon-9 pilot (Unidentified signal) who was being attacked by 3 Sidewinders. I was "whooping" and shouting as I fought the 3 pirates, dancing around the smoking Lakon. What an amazing experience.

I've been blaming the lack of proper 0.4 support in ED for my lack of comfort for the last week, but having done the same as you, I've found that my IPD is bang on 64mm, so I can't actually blame that.

I did A LOT of mucking around in the desk demo room and discovered that I was wearing the rift too far down my face (there's millimeters in it, but they count)

Get yourself in the room, get comfortable and reset the view, then look straight at the ruler on the desk by tilting and leaning your head, not with just your eyes. If there's any weird chromatic aberration going in there, you've likely done what I did an have the rift set up as comfortable on the face, but not actually where it should be for your eyes.

Until I finished setting that up, I was having real comfort issues in the rift when playing ED. Now that I've got that ruler looking good, I can play ED for hours without feeling uncomfortable. Only issue I have is that because I'm wearing it a few millimeters up from where I was, I feel a bit more like I'm wearing a diving mask that I previously did. It's a sensible trade, IMO.

Ok, cheers for the tip.

The missus is out tonight at a work thing so I should have a few hours of peace and quiet to give this a bash.

Mine arrived an hour ago. Managed to get E: D working ok. Bit of judder now and again that I believe is when the frame rate is dropping below the refresh rate as it mainly happens in stations. Hopefully some tweaking will get it just right

So far I love E: D with the rift, I can sit for hours. Still have framdrops inside hangars and stations but that's only because of my GTX670 not being powerful enough. I'm playing with a xbox360 controller and Logitech G27 pedals for yaw. Works pretty good, but I can't wait to get a x55 rhino!

The only thing i don't like with the rift implementation is that when you throttle up your head position moves backwards to simulate that you're driving fast, a nice effect in the vanilla game but not so much in the rift :) Hoping that will be fixed in the next update.

Yea, totally.

At one point during the weekend I had the camera set up perfectly right. I glanced down though the air mesh on the side of the goggles. My arm was perfectly aligned with the in-game character model. I could see my own white arm, with yellow t-shirt seemingly morph into the black-clad space arm in the game, perfectly lined up.
What a mind-frak that was.

I still can't work out what is going on inside stations in regards to performance.

With my DK1 the performance inside stations seems to change with every iteration of Elite. In PB1 performance was pretty low, around 40fps in PB2 that went to over 60fps.

In Beta 1, I sometimes get 60fps and other times around 45fps - this is within the same station and using the same graphic settings. I'm starting to wonder if it's network related?
