FDEV - could we get dev diary back please?

Hi Frontier. Any chance for dev diaries making a come back? Even on a monthly basis... Just a few sentences to comment on what's in the works and maybe a single screenshot of sneak peek preview of some in-development stuff.

You would make a lot of the community happy with that and I reckon there would be much less salt on the forums...

Its all I would like to see from FD. Atm lack of any clear info on whats going on only fuels frustration and unbelievable mental gymnastics that ppl pull off to interpret possible meaning of old messages from Fd.
*I'm one of those gymnasts as well :(

I absolutely agree. The radio silence from FD I think it is by far the biggest problem for this game. ED communication policy over the years has turned from being one of the best in the industry to a few bits every several months. I miss those days when I was waiting for those dev diaries............

I suspect it's more likely to revive the: "But you promised X, Y and Z" comments.

Still, I would like the dev diaries back as well — silly comments that twist what was said can be ignored at least.

I'd like that. We have a larger Community Team than ever before & they certainly have the time to communicate, I'd like to see useful stuff relating to the development of the game, sneak previews of potential future content, all that stuff.

I'm aware there's a popular demand for player created content but I can get that from the players. I'd like to find out stuff from Fdev that only Fdev can provide.

This what focussed feedback sort of does.

It just seems to be too slow for most.

Seems like they put it up, took a load of feedback, then went back to design mode, and will report back later.

Then probably more discussion, some tweaks, then silence till release.

That's my guess anyway

Unfortunately, I don't think we are ever going to see them back. For whatever reason, Frontier want to keep quiet about the future of the game from its dedicated customers.

I've said before they need a Twitter account called "Elite Leaks" or similar where they can post random stuff that is not attributable to them, whether it be obscure quotes, grainy screenshots or whatever. It may even generate a bit of fun in the community as people try to second guess what a random post on the feed means.

You're kidding right?

We had to beg and beg for TWO YEARS to get even what they gave us - then they proclaimed that they were going to listen to the community and give more regular information during Horizons, and for a few months they did - then as the dev time got dragged out and content dried up, so did the communication...

And now we are back to begging.

We have said "tell us what's going on or we'll just have to make up our own theories - and you know where that leads", time and again WITHOUT FDEV LEARNING THIS IMPORTANT LESSON.

FDev's radio silence is par for the course - and apparently is pretty much mirrored with internal communications within the company according to quite a few glass door posts.

Rootsrat - I applaud the tenacity but you KNOW we have been here before, what honestly make you think it'll be any different this time?

Possibly. I also think that some people are just toxic and just can't help themselves. No matter what FDev do, they will find something to complain about and ruin things for others.

Some of the bashing is about the lack of updates certainly, but I don't think that it's the motivator. People just seem to like doing it think it's OK and it's become the norm, so the dev's would just be offering themselves up as targets.

Don't worry guys, we'll hear from FD again in about a month during Gamescom. At the very least they will tell us when the Exploration FF Forum will go live.

Well it's still better than Hello Games communication for the past 2 years =P

I have to admit that it's hard to have barely no news about what is going on but lets see the bright side :

- Gamescon coming in 1 month and we should expect some nice annoucements (teasing for Chapter 4 and paid DLC ?)
- We'll have Exploration / CODEX + Fleet carriers focused feedback on the way down to chapter 4
- Chapter 3 is only 2 months away :p

Oh and remember CMDRs "Space is cruel"

Last time we had it 99% of the community commented every single Information with Bashing of the devs. If I were in charge at Frontier, the last Thing I would do is Talking to a community like us.

I see Frontier have a floor presence which they didn't have last year plus Horizons was announced at Gamescom 2015 so it may well be that this is true. The question for me though is: does this mean there is no Frontier Expo this year?

In the 3.1 launching stream Braben said that Frontier Expo aren't meant to happen on regular year / base. He said something like "We'll do the next one when we'll feel we have a lot to annouce"

With FDevs being at Gamescon end of august I think that Frontier Expo will not be before 2019.
