Oops (again), still behind on this thread but ... just wanted to say that I decided to go out and try some stealth data piracy today and it's really good fun and a nice change of pace. Had to visit three installations before I found one with hackable data terminals and in the process realised that installations have evolved a fair bit since my early visits. They're no longer all just characterless shinies to go and look at, some seem to have back stories (e.g. I managed to rescue the occupied escape pod from the story at Istanu), some have trespass zones and large fleets of openly hostile guards (Izanagi) and the whole silent running gameplay around stealing data (and wow ... sooo much data!) at Inti was awesome. I'm going to be re-visiting a whole pile of these over the coming days and will be adding brief notes in the OP about what you can find there.
P.S. quick tip for anyone else who wants to give those installation data/cargo hacking scenarios a go, once you've data link scanned the installation (to find all the interaction points around the installation) and have then got close to and data link scanned a specific interaction point (e.g. a hackable data terminal), you need to go to your subsystems panel on the left (or else use your "target next subsystem" binding) to target the limpet attachment point before you can fire off your recon or hatch breaker limpet. Took me ages to spot that I was missing the last part of this sequence (thought I'd brought the wrong limpet controller for quite a long time).
