Gamescom 2018

I don't get the point of a company going to a gaming thing only to close door the event.
I understand even less the point of releasing unusable info to the media under NDA.

Not sure if Gamescom is the venue for this but given Jurassic World is now out, no doubt Frontier will be looking for more work. As they seem to be expanding they'll also be looking to recruit talent.

ED is obviously important, but if you remember Braben's recent media articles, they were more about Frontier than ED.

So can't help the focus at Gamescom is also going to be less about ED and more about Frontier.

And if FD WERE to release a hint that Legs was coming out in 2019, would anyone believe them? :D

This could all turn out to be a fest of FD Community Manager interventions next week, with "No, we didn't say that!"

If FD would do that, yes. Considering how careful they are with the information, if they intentionally would hint such thing, it would mean they are very confident to hit that target.

It will take time for ray tracing to take off, along with Vulkan API though it might change future of gaming. I doubt that's coming for ED any time soon though, because ray tracing will be better for FPS cinematic games, than games with huge rendering areas. ED will still be off better with 'trickery' required to make so many light sources to work.

Its a shame Nvidia don't focus on actual real world performance metrics with the new card. Who cares about niche RTX features when we really need to know how it performs against its older GTX 10x series siblings (something that was totally missing).

ED pulls a Half Life 1 trick in that it looks and runs well on all machines. If it ever went the way of Star Citizen and became graphics intensive it would become a niche of a niche.
