Thank you for some great times but game over.

Played this wonderful game for quite a while, 3 billion assets, all the ships, all the engineers, done the grind. Only needed Elite in exploration so I get my Connie and set off with 5 passengers to do my first long range mission. Previously couldn't face 250 jumps to get out here but I was enjoying it (strangely!) and already planning my next trip to Colonia to meet the new engineers, maybe get my name on some unexplored systems etc. Last stop Triple Density and plot the course for home. Oh look! there's a star in the system I'll get a jet cone boost from that and speed myself back to the bubble. Yes, it was a white dwarf and I got my well and truly fried. Lost 30kly data and 200 million credits for the missions, I can handle that, sort of! maybe I could rebuy next to Triple Density and drop in to Colonia but no, I have to rebuy back at Reorte. And there's the rub, the spell is broken, I just don't want to have to get back in the cockpit and spend hours to get back to where I was. But it's not sad and it's not a rant, it's a strange feeling like breaking up with a girlfriend, this delightful experience in my life has passed. I would have played on but the barrier to overcome the loss is too high, which should be a salutary message for Fdev and any games developer; don't let your players die feeling cheated. So thanks for a really wonderful time and I hope this game flourishes, but it's off to pastures new for me, I wish you all well.

Everyone has a water mark. Anything below, and it's okay. Once you exceed that line, there's not really anything to be done. This is true for all games, Frontier's just includes considerable investment.

I took a break, an going to see what Frontier do with the Gnosis, to answer some curiosity. If it's what I think then my ride will stay on the Gnosis until Q4, to see what Frontier offer, then.

There is much out there to enjoy. Do so, it's good for the soul. Fly well, commander. o7

Thanks for these kind thoughts, I will be back for a look now and then but it won't be the same somehow. Interesting some of you have had the same experience with other games, wouldn't have missed ED for anything, glorious highs and deepest of lows!

I did the same thing - quit playing shortly before 3.0 dropped (so about, what, 6 months ago?).

Went to play something completely different - Trainz:A New Era. I went from flying spaceships to modelling model railways:

(that's part of a layout I'm currently working on).

But about a month ago I started to...not exactly want to play Elite again, it was more like wanting to want to play Elite again (if you see what I mean). So I've slightly forced myself to start playing again, and I'm glad I did. However, I don't know how long I'll continue. I may just be Elite-d out.

However, as others have said, have fun playing whatever you go to next. If you decide to get back into it then I'm sure Elite will still be around.

Emphasis mine.

As you say; the rub that breaks the spell.

Good times had.

Fly safe Commander

You'll be back. :)

You could be right, the thrill of landing on a planet and getting in a SRV is so magical but you want to do it only so many times. I could have a break and come back with the next gen VR, only playing it on Xbox at the moment. Had thought about train sim, the East Coast Main Line passes at the end of my garden!

Woah. Same here. I'm in Prestonpans, East Lothian.

I'm between Grantham and Stamford, 3 miles from The Mallard's steam speed record. That's an amazing coincidence living on the same planet! seeing as there is a whole galaxy out there!

I've never played Elite: Dangerous exclusively or actually for long periods at a time. It's my dip in game, I'll think of something to do, and then achieve that over a few weeks/months. Taking my macOS commander out to Colonia at the moment, in between using Trainz 19, StoneHearth and Lord of the Rings Online.

I'm also itching to return to Hearts of Iron 4, Civilization 5 or 6 and any number of Total War games. All on macOS, not bad for a computer that can't play games ;)

You have Trainz 19? Nice! I'm guessing you got early access, or is it actually out now? And is it significantly better than T:ANE?

Wrong forum ;)

I did a little beta testing, and found out for my particular hardware/software combination (iMac late 2013/ High Sierra) I had noticeably better performance. On the Windows version I'm not really qualified to comment.

I would just note that a month's worth of Gold Subscription will allow you to form your own opinion.

OP:
In which mode did you play most?
Did many CGs?
Visit many POIs?
Did you engage in Powerplay? If so, for the modules only?
Much PvP combat?
Fight many Thargoids?
Mining?
How much of pure trading? - not including missions and passenger missions.

Just trying to get a balanced view of your view of ED.

Ha! Yeah, good point but thanks for the info.

(I can't rep you again currently)

Never say never! To Parmo:- I played the game for peace & relaxation and escape from the grind of life on earth! so didn't do any PvP and played solo. Did lots of trading, missions and mining got to elite, got to dangerous in combat, was nearly elite in exploration. I suppose I enjoyed buying and fitting out the ships mostly, doing what I needed to do that. Ranking up, collecting materials, unlocking engineers. The new ships didn't inspire me at all, some more capital ships for us old timers would be good. I did visit POIs; Powerplays was on my list. Have played for a while so didn't really get involved in the Thargoids and the newer stuff, for me I wish they'd put more into improving graphics and making more planets landable than mucking about with the engineers for example. Although a game that doesn't evolve will shrivel anyway. So I wasn't a specialist in anything, a lot more tutorial resources would be good, especially to get new pilots flying and as you see I found out how bad white dwarfs are the hard way
