Q4 - the breaking point

So the game could be left as it is today, and if the DWE2 is still going then it's all well by you? :D

You have 0 reason to expect anything then! The game is good as it is!

The game as it is, is playable. I'm an Explorer & don't get involved in pewpew. Iv been waiting really since Horizons dropped, for FD to give us Explorers something to do.
I create my own goals & aims, because frankly FD's movement of progress of in-game lore is slower than turtle pace.
But Iv always found something to keep me occupied. My game clock shows almost 52wks played!

I was about to park up until Q4 then the Gnosis trip shows up, so it's something to do for a month.

Iv given up speculating what announcements FD have coming in future updates. They tease us with overhyped cryptic statements, but really tell us nothing, so it's better to just wait & read the patch notes on update day.

No, the game isn't as good as it is or can be. Improvements will come in to better the game, but all the bull on the forum threads, posters telling all what's needed, missing, speculated, all that means jack.
The only one's who matter are the FD team, who, if we haven't got it by now, aren't gonna tell us anything until the last possible moment.

While Q4 may be the breaking point for some (& current signs aren't good), I know I'll still have something to do in the first quarter of next year.

Actually he did address Q4's exploration features a bit. He said they will be more refined and expanded, that's one of the reasons other stuff didn't make it.

The thing here is we didn't even know the details of the mechanics before he said this, so... I don't believe him.

"I really hope Q4 delivers on core gameplay improvements, and also making the different parts of the game meshed better with each others."

Q4 will not bring different parts being meshed together, and I would suggest to NOT have high hopes for this any time soon.
It is a development nightmare, and I would say they would have to rewrite many parts of the code to have everything intertwine between mechanics, might just as well start on new game.

I mean it's not inconceivable, maybe the analysis mode will add some persistence to USS's, which could allow FD to have USS gameplay feel more connected to other elements of the game, maybe this could be used in all sorts of missions and not just for exploring, could be used to expand upon the Search and Rescue gameplay, add new things for pirates, bounty hunters and material gathering. There's a fair bit that's possible. Without any sort of indication from FDev though, you are entirely correct, the best approach by far is to not have high hopes for speculative unannounced features, particularly when the only thing that is causing the speculation in the first place is a LACK of information about what is coming. Expect only what has been announced and not one iota more, and even then expect what has been announced to sound way better on paper than it plays in the game.

Can you elaborate about analysis mode adding persistence to USS's? I'm not trying to be an a-hole, but I haven't seen this in the patch notes. Did I miss it? Sounds interesting...

I thought in Q4 FD will not be touching USS, persistence or Search and Rescue, etc. , right? I'm not even sure what will be touched in Q4 other than mining, exploration, Codex. But expecting persistence in Q4 is too optimistic, it's nearly impossible for them to do that without switching server (from peer2peer?) technology.

Woe! Doom! More woe! More doom! What shall become of us... other than having the same conversations year after year for over a decade, probably.

No breaking point for me. If I am enjoying a game, I'll play it. When I become bored with it, I'll walk away. I did once before (walk away from ED), but it wasn't from boredom, but from other things happening in my life. I picked it up again, and am enjoying it.

Frankly, I'm more likely to walk away from a game due to real life issues over the game play itself, unless the game is really bad and unplayable in the first place. Or, I finish the game's objectives. I may not be able to play as much, but if a game like ED grabs my attention and keeps it beyond the first week, then I'm likely to stick around and see what happens next.

I like ED. I'll be here for a bit.
