BREAKING NEWS: GNOSIS STRANDED, GALNET NEWS!

HAHAHAHAHAHA the one player group that goes to the trouble of solving the inane esoteric puzzles offered by the pocket-protector wearing spreadsheet humping grindmasters and actually make this accessible are the ones to blame. You sir are a prince.

Little people with small minds. Leave them to their misery.

Well, the system where the Gnonis is "stranded" as mentioned in the Galnet article is one system over and it's not locked, so, don't see why I need to hurry and bail. Unless for some reason ships can't launch..

Very disappointed if this is what this all turns out to be. Most of the people on this ship would be of the explorer type and not interested in thargoidy stuff (like me). The Thargoid portion of this week's CG has only 84 participants as I write this, meaning it's a big miscalculation on FDs part to assume this would be anything less than "unwelcome".

Well... I don't usually post on this forum but here we go.

(Btw, pardon my english, I'm french hon hon hon)

I. Seriously. Can't. Get. How. That. Kind. Of. show. Is. Even. Possible.

I mean... This (the early Galnet Report and the result of the "event") is pure amateurism. I wish I could love Elite like I did before. I had fun playing it, like for real (the most fun I had was back when Robigo Run were a thing, not for money, but for the thrilling sensations you could get), I liked to fly through space, outfitting ships, spending a ridiculous amount of money on Frontier Store because you know, I thought Frontier deserved that and needed my support.

For this result.

I'm not even feeling insulted. I'm not even nor angry. At this point I don't even know if I should feel something. My patience is just gone.

This is disappointing but yet not surprising. At all. And that's the problem. It's like our brains have integrated the fact that any attempt to do something fresh with Elite will end up being a g joke. Is this what Fdev made us ?

I've seen so many commanders outfitting there ships, jumping on an awfully long distance to join the Gnosis and this happens. I'm really sorry for them (I, for one, just joined the Gnosis a couple of weeks ago with a basic Asp), like reaaaally.

How could we blame them ? There is so little new things to experience in Elite (and when there should be, it's pushed back for the next year) that the single event looking fresh attracts a big amount of players. We already knew that thanks to Salomé, and Fdev still doesn't give a crap about it. Hooray.

And you know what's worse ? There's no way this could have ended better. There's nothing at this time, that allow the game to offer something else. The ressources are missing. The gameplay elements are missing. This is not some two month-development stuff that could have allowed it. The only thing we could have hoped for was to find empty systems.

Hoping for something new ? What about some hauling CG ? AREN'T YOU ENTERTAINED ?

If this bull happened, I wish we could all boycott it. Sure, it's not cool for Canonn Research, I'm sorry they would be colateral damage of FDev awful managment (they already are anyway) but I guess the Gnosis could die to save us from eternal boredom. (I've also seen some commanders talking about ganking everything around the Gnosis, it's certainly not a solution, but at this point I won't blame them at all)

Sorry this is probably not a well-written post as I'm really tired but I wanted to write whzt was on my mind.

Fly safe commanders o7

I will not say I am not disappointed.

However, I am hoping they can pull out of this rut and that Plan B is viable and more interesting. C'mon, FDev! You can do it!
I'm afraid that what we are seeing now IS Plan B.

Maybe the Galnet news leak is intentional because FDev knows their servers cannot handle traffic for over 11,000 ships [big grin]

The Far Cry 5 Mars DLC has spacelegs AND giant insects. Just sayin'.

Aye, played it too [yesnod]

I'm still trying to get over the surprise that Orgin (EA) have given me FIFA 19 and Battlefield V ultimate versions for free on my Origin access account

Oh damn...didn't knew what to expect about the Gnosis adventure but wasn't expecting this... =(

Will & Brett...big day ahead ;)

If this is true, well, GOOD JOB FD!!!!
Came back to the game after a break, I was really interested in what will happen.
Well, looks like not much, again simple, very simple event.
Aand this Galnet news 6 hours early..... Really??
This could have been a perfect moment to show us some more wonderful content, move this part of game story forward.
I'll wait and see what will happen at 7am, but if what I think - after reading Galnet news - will happen, one very good opportunity for good and new things, is lost.
+ you will have to deal now with a lot of angry and disappointed players - including me - and I kinda have the feeling that the press will have something to say about this as well........

Yo, Yamiks, here a good story for you :D :D :D :D

Oh man that would be just evil. Given the choice between exploding servers and imploding forums, FDev chose the latter.

After five years, my dude, you kinda see this coming. Frontier have a way of doing. And this is just what they do. Far too many people are very good to frontier and support them and take endless crap like this on the chin.

They, we, just shouldn't have to. Not any more.

Just saying. This was a little too predictable.

I Agree though.

My spidey-senses are going haywire

Has to be fake or a joke because there are hundreds of ax pilots on The Gnosis. Nobody could be stupid enough to think dumped meta alloys is a good story arc.

This is Fdev, they don't have anyone that would know a good story arc if it bit them.....but they are overflowing with incompetence and demonstrated by this screw up and their consistent inability to deliver promised content and/or have it work when delivered.

Its time's like these that I like to type "https://www.elitedangerous.com" in my address bar just to remind myself what exactly fdev sells this game as; how they chose to differentiate themselves from the competition. Go on, do it yourself. You'll get a nice cinematic animation (featuring a lot of gameplay that doesn't actually happen) and then the 4 main "selling points" that fdev chooses as the first real substance to describe their game to new players with. The third of these selling points is "EPIC MULTIPLAYER: Blaze your own trail and experience an evolving, player-driven narrative in a 34th century galaxy of warring galactic superpowers."

Now reading that, you would think that the devs of this game would jump at the opportunity to incorporate a player lead initiative into the story of the game, would you not? And yet, when they are handed basically a blank check when it comes to player lead narratives, when they are given a rare opportunity tell any story they could possibly imagine and have the player genuinely feel as if their choices were what caused that story to take place and not just the dictations of the devs, what do they do with it? They turn it into another shipping CG. They could have put ANYTHING in that area of space. A variation of the brain trees (maybe this could be where the tube worms are if canonn hasn't found them yet), a secret thargoid installation, a guardian installation, a rouge AI, maybe even a generation ship that didn't die out (not sure if the time tables would work for that one). They could have even just made it get thrown off course to a far away system and establish a colonia 2.0 and thrown in a few of the ideas I mentioned above as a concession to the explorers if they REALLY didn't want it going to the cone sector.

But not only did they waste the perfect opportunity to deliver on their promises, they went a step further. And not just a step further, but so far that its hard to imagine how anyone could have thought this was anything but the worst possible decision unless their intent was to harm the player base. They didn't just say "no, you can't jump there," they told canonn that they could. And then canonn told people they were going to. Then people got excited. Maybe they only realized they couldn't let it happen after saying yes, which is why they permit locked all those sectors. But they didn't just say "no you can't anymore sorry," which would have been bad enough on its own but would have stopped people from getting their hopes up too much (maybe as a concession they could have given cannon a tip about a different region of space that has some undiscovered goodies). But instead they waited for everyone to get there, for everyone to invest time and money (both in game and real money) into this, only to cancel it in the dumbest way possible. They let people invest in it when they had every opportunity of stopping them from doing so, but didn't.

The only way I can see fdev salvaging this situation is if they plan on letting the gnosis actually do the jump eventually and are just buying time to make content. Now this would still indicate terrible planning on fdev's part, as they should have just told cannon "we don't have content available yet, wait a few months and we'll have something for you" or just let it happen and strand the gnosis within a small area via permit locking and slowly unlock more and more space as content is developed. The in game justification for that could have been the pilots federation not letting cmdrs enter thargoid infested areas until the thargoid's numbers had been thinned out via cmdrs killing thargoids in the area the gnossis did have access to. Regardless, there are way better ways of handling this situation.

And the beautiful irony of it all is that we only know of this massive mismanagement of the player driven story is because fdev can't even manage their news site correctly and published the story before it actually happened. Really top notch game development there.

I would like to end this with a statement. I *almost* came back to the game for this event. I'm not an explorer and have only gone more than 500 lys from the bubble to unlock palin. But I thought this would be cool and worth breaking out my DBX for. But in the end I chose not to because my past experience with fdev and E:D still leaves a sour taste in my mouth. And for that I would like to thank fdev. Thank you for screwing up so many times before this that you taught me never to give you the benefit of the doubt. Thanks for demonstrating so thoroughly that you can't follow through with your commitments that there's no point in taking you at your word. And thank you for disappointing me so many times before that this time I only laughed.

As you probably expect mate, I agree with every single word of that.

The thing my mind keeps coming back to is that all throughout the last couple of weeks the forum has been packed with multiple threads about this, players buzzing about the possibilities. In particular, since last week's shift in focus players who usually focus on either combat, exploration or science have actually getting excited together and looking forward to playing the game together, something that's been so rare since I started playing in October 2015 that I can't really remember it ever happening to this degree before.

Throughout all of that time someone or several someones at FDev will have been reading all that on the forum and knew that this was how it was actually going to go down.

I cannot even begin to imagine what they thought was going to happen in terms of the reaction if it wasn't this. I try hard not to criticise the dev team unfairly, Christ knows I certainly couldn't do their jobs, but this leaves a strong feeling of their over-arching mindset (the vision for want of a better term) being so completely out of touch with what people actually want and expect from the game as to be on an entirely separate plane of existence.

Your second paragraph nails it perfectly - players are crying out for the feeling that they're genuinely influencing the gameplay, which isn't only not some odd expectation rooted in a sense of entitlement when we're talking about online games in 2018, it's what the game is specifically advertised as providing.

I was pretty furious two hours ago when I first saw this but that was just an initial reaction to feeling like I'd had my chain pulled and it passed pretty quickly. What I actually feel about it now is sad. Quite desperately sad actually because it speaks of issues far beyond this particular event. Absolutely fundamental issues for what is purportedly an MMO and after four years, issues which it's difficult to believe will ever be addressed because in order to do that there has to be the will to do it and frankly, I'm just not seeing it.

I am watching the skies Will. It's dark and it looks like rain.

FDev, really, the Thargoids were lured away by meta-alloys? That's the cheesiest thing ever, and I think you've misread what we have aboard the Gnosis.

We don't have meta-alloys. We have Gauss, and lots of it. We have maybe 300 combat pilots in AXI, and most pilots mount quad Gauss. We have over 1,000 Gauss cannons on board the Gnosis. No matter how many hearts an interceptor has or how fast they regenerate health, I don't think the Thargoids have a single ship that can survive volley fire from a thousand Gauss.

This post to me as an EVE Capsuleer as well as an Elite Commander is just the icing on the cake. This is so true by this point...FDev, I hope you do something to fix this quickly as while I did not haul out an Anti-Thargoid Combatship...I am not too happy to not be able to go to new frontiers.
