News Chapter Four - Exploration Reveal

Why "stellar bodies"? - That wording made me think only stellar objects would be detected until I read and see that what was meant was "astronomical objects". So can we please see this clarified?

On a less pedantic note please can we be asssured that synthesis of DSS mini-probes is not going to require "manufactured" material - like the smack in the face we got with heatsink synthesis?

I am surprised there is no change in the payouts for certain discoveries. In general the payouts are low, making exploration a largely commodity level activity except for trying to find terraformables. However, even in this there is a lack of balance. The difference between a terraformable water world and an Earth-like world is negligible despite not only a difference in degree (you still have to terraform a terraformable) but a substantial difference in rarity. So I would expect that would also be fixed explicitly before general increases in payouts to compensate for effort. For instance, literally no one cares if a gas giant supports life or not since the pay outs are so low it literally makes no difference what a gas giant is, it is not worth detail scanning IMO.

I didn't see anything about listening to the planets? What will happen to the listening?
Will I still hear the ELW birdies in deep space? Those cheeping little frakkers can bring tears to your eyes when you've been out for a long time and you finally hear them.
What about the birdies FD?
Oh god, don't take the birdies away!!!

First Discovered & First Mapped...

Okay, I understand that the "First Discovered By" tags will remain, but there will be a "First Mapped By" tag also. So initially even core systems will appears as if they are unmapped. This will seem a bit screwy at first - I mean, e.g. Earth will look like it's not been mapped?

Now what about those of us who have not only scanned but mapped a planet already - i.e. used our discovery scanner and our detailed surface scanner. We'll effectively be losing an in-game credit.

If a POI is discovered... anything that is NOT a guardian site/alien structure, for example, will some of these be RNG? As in, once we leave the area, will another commander going to the same spot in a different instance see the same POI?

Since most of the ships were designed before the fsd booster, maybe these chances are an opportunity to fuse both scanners into one, so we can free one slot - great on smaller ships mostly!

The discovery scanner will be mandatory for finding USS mission (for example assassination) or the way we do know will still be "valid" ?

I mean scan the nav beacon->get coord->fly near the body->find the USS mission (let assume the decay was not reached 0 seconds yet)
or
Find the target in Supercruise->intercept him

Because it will be very disappointing to be forced to equip Interceptor + discovery scanner. I either equip one or none. But still can finish the mission ATM.

I think it is implied that any of existing mission loops does not change by this. You still will get mission USS revealed if you get close by.

I liked what I read, far from understanding the new mechanics but I liked it, I'll try shore.

(and some relief to have good news)

Hi! I must say, these updates sound like they're certainly going to make exploration really fun.
Exploration is how I spend the most time in the game, poking at what unknown things it has to offer, so any improvements on that front are much appreciated!
There are three things I do wonder about:
-Would it be possible to plot custom routes? Currently the route system works that you can only pick a destination, but I would also like to plot routes in certain patterns. This would greatly improve mapping out areas in the galaxy.
-Would it be possible to add waypoints or bookmarks on specific coordinates on a planet's surface, using the surface map? These waypoints or bookmarks would be visible on your Scarab's scopes. It would greatly improve the quality navigating surfaces.
-Finally, it would be a great quality of life improvement to have the Scarab's cargo scoop act as a vacuum, instead of having to target each mineral separately, having to drive back and forth to target new minerals to pick them up.

That does sound amazing.

Question: How will the system map work/look after the initial honk and later on?
And will the current three different varieties (I think there are three) of Discovery Scanner still exist, or will they all do exactly the same? At the moment they have different ranges.

Since most of the ships were designed before the fsd booster, maybe these chances are an opportunity to fuse both scanners into one, so we can free one slot - great on smaller ships mostly!
If we are lucky, FDEV may add slots to our ships. As in Exploration slots. They did mention this when combined module racks were being thought about, but it would still be a good idea. ....I think.
