Keyboard support support arrives 14th November. Will FDev support it?

I don't want Elite to require a keyboard. I don't want any game to require a keyboard.

I agree but Elite already needs a keyboard when entering system search in the Gal map. It's a right pain in VR as you have to take off the HMD as FD have said they will not provide a virtual keyboard.

All yours for just a tenner more than a standard Xbox Controller, half the price of an Elite, and with massively superior interfacing.
Superior to people who want to use keys'n'mouse, yes. Massively inferior to people who don't.

Personally, I'd love great keyboard support as a way to augment HOTAS control. Navigating the UI's with mouse or arrow keys would be nice, too, as anything beats the awful mini thumbstick on the HOTAS.

I reckon if you told people in 1990 that in seven years time the dominant controller would feature TWO joysticks, they would laugh at you.

But look what happened...

This is no different.

Technology evolves. All of it. Including consoles.

Keyboard support as option is fine, the moment a game forces me to use a keyboard on Xbox is the moment I stop playing that game.

My reasons for the nay saying are simple and very selfish....I haven't got enough room on my desk for another keyboard [squeeeee]

I'm also at the other end of the spectrum here being ...in the main... a PC player...in that I won't play many of the current games that don't have support for the Xbox controller. Besides ARMA 3 which simply requires KB/Mouse input due to it's complexity and the likes of the flight sims I play requiring a decent HOTAS, I'm not a great user of KB/M for gaming. For E-D, I have no keyboard controls at all...between Voice Attack, the HOTAS and mouse control in station menus, outfitting and the gal/system maps; I don't touch the keyboard at all.

Having the option of some keyboard controls in E-D on the Xbox is a fine thing...as a PC E-D player, I'd be more interested in FDev programming in a multiple fire button option rather than the artificially imposed 2 button limit so I didn't have to muck around with firegroups on a HOTAS with 5 primary fire buttons. ;)

Playing on my Xbox is no different from playing on my PC...since they're both attached to each other. For example...I play Assassin's Creed Odyssey on PC using my Xbox Elite controller then press a button on the HDMi switcher, resync the Elite controller to the Xbox, put on my Turtle Beach Stealths instead of the Hyper X cloud 2's and play RDR2 on the same bottom monitor sat in the same chair.

Seamless cross platform gaming and none of this faffing about with keyboards :)

I plugged in a USB keyboard to the xbox a long time ago... works fine for many things, including the galmap and all the text channels. Very useful for those things, indeed.

It's kinda on-hand for me, since I have been using it for those things, so it probably wouldn't be the worst thing to allow for some key binding... but I haven't really felt the need for that so far.

All the new bindings that appear to be coming with the next update might make me think again on that.

I'm with Bongo,

I don't want the NEED of a keyboard for the game, however i'd like to have the option..

But till now, I still don't have the need for more buttons, I can do it all with controller, and the HOTAS. I use the keyboard only for text input.

And when 3.3 drops i'm planning to even get rid of some bindings because I am going to use the ship's functions panel for that.. I will have my shiplights, landing gear, cargo hatch, and that kind of stuff removed form my controller and HOTAS..

But yes, I'd like to have the option to use a keyboard.. (Not sure why though)

Yes, I am not talking about only having keyboard or forcing keyboard, but complementing with it.
My main reason is actually wanting to make or buy a button box, to have some functions near it, not completely by necessity, but because it looks cool.

An HOTAS gives a lot of flexibility, but having some actions on a keyboard can be quite handy at times.

I have thought about the possibilities of this. With a little tinkering I could build in some buttons into my playchair!!!
A arduino microcontroller could be used as a keyboard interface. Man, there is some fun to have! A landing gear button, or a deploy hardpoints switch labeled "master arm" GalMap, SysMap, return to route. Like a button box.

Using the guts of a USB keyboard and reconfiguring to add your own switches instead of Keys - why program something when it's already done just need to repackage.

I'll second that!

The Kinect on the 360 messed around with a similar voice controlled thing, it never came to much though as very few games used it...Skyrim and Mass Effect 2&3 were the only 2 notable ones...

I remember an embarrassing attempt using it for Skyrim and waking my wife up at 2am shouting "Fus Rho-Da!" at my TV at the top of my lungs [haha]

What you all need is an Xbox version of Voice Attack [yesnod]

I never felt comfortable talking to electronics.

Besides, Microsofts "global" support is a flat out lie.

Kinect, and Cortana is still isn't, and never will be a thing in our language. Microsoft simply lacks skill to do what Google, Amazon and Apple can if it comes to speech support..

The best voice controls come from Texas.

Seriously.
