FDEV just gave VR users a good poke in the Eye!

I spent a few MOMENTS in the game last night and I gotta say it looks HORRIBLE. The colors are all out of whack, much too bright. The graphic detail is either too blunt or too fine. Some fonts just got smaller and the menu's are incomplete and/or completely messed up.

...other than that, its great.

For VR players, the visuals just went totally to crap. They also made some of the text fonts significantly smaller. I have to lean over in my "cockpit chair" just to be able to read my bank balance on the side panel! We also now have "non-time-critical" functions which need to have buttons bound (cause they have no way of being selected off either of the side menu's)!

ED is absolutely the #1 app for VR and VR is the #1 way to play ED. Why did FDEV just totally trash the visuals?

As a VR player, I generally don't use the keyboard at all (except when I have to lift up my visor to type in a system name to search for). VR players can't see the keyboard. As such, I rely on the side menu's to select much of the "non-time-critical" functions (landing gear, lights, cargo scoop). This leaves as many as possible of the very precious buttons on my HOTAS to more critical functions. Yes, I have Voice Attack to help as well, but no one on voice comms wants to hear me yelling "Cargo Scoop" or "Request Docking" so I always avoid VA and fall back on cockpit menu selection for those less-than-critical functions.

Non-Critical functions, those that don't have to be activated in the heat of battle for instance, should always be available from the side menu's!!!

For instance, Is there some reason (other than ignorance) why we couldn't have the "Mode Switch" function available from one of the cockpit menu's?

Why FDEV, Why?

Agree about the menus. Probably just an oversight though which should be easy enough to fix. Maybe raise it as a bug.

I'd recommend getting a gaming keypad. It's a lot easier to find the keys you need without looking. I don't use Voice Attack anymore as I find it's now quicker to use the keypad.

yea I set in VA in options under Hotkeys tab- Joystick Button Recognition to -Push not listen Joystick 2 button 15- ( the big red button on warthog throttle for me ) and a key option as wel there set
in elite microphone mute button 15 - button mode hold
mute button mode- Push to talk

I rarely talk in game so so this works perfect

I have a gaming keypad (Logitech G13) but I still prefer NOT to HAVE to take my hands off my HOTAS. Particularly if it could have been otherwise resolved.

Yet ANOTHER button which has to take up precious (and unnecessary) space on my HOTAS?

As a VR user I have no issue with the colors or anything. I think the only problems I had was smaller font on the [3] menu in SRV and the DSS mismatched shadows bug.

well sry just suggested so you could maybe enjoy VA again

Don't worry OP is on a massive ED downer and no amount of help/suggestions barr FD ditching yesterday's update and reverting back to the old ways Just For Him, will get him out of the downer. Stick around you may get his stuff (Especially the VR mask, which obviously has now become nothing better than an expensive paper weight.

;) np I get the mood and we need more buttons on hotas anyways ;P And sincerely hope FD makes VR better for you guys .

I use a simple HOTAS, bound all controls to them no problem. But maybe that is me: when I have an issue I try to fix it rather than spend that time complaining others should do something differently while claiming it is impossible to do it yourself. It is interesting to note those who use the latter mentality tend to be chronically and permanently unhappy.

Levono Explorer here btw, reading the text is easy as heck.

So you are the only guy in VR using FD without bugs, too much light and crappy visual. That is an interesting statement, even for fanboi

Nope, am not having any issues. The game looks great on Ultra, 75%, 1080TI CV1. No idea how it looks on the Vive.

I'd be kicking off if the visuals got ruined in VR. During Beta we had a few issues with visuals, all of those have been resolved.

Only issue I've had in VR so far is the "inconsistency" between eyes. Like in asteroid fields, the edges of the asteroids "jitter" against the dust/fog.

I'm going to guess it came down to money. Whatever direction they are taking with the visual style of the game is likely being decided upon based on the way the majority of the players experience the game. I'm just throwing this out there, but I'm fairly certain VR players are in the extreme minority vs players on standard monitors or TVs. Two of the platforms for this game don't even support VR (PS4 and XBOX). ED is the best VR experience I've had so far, but I can see the business reasons for pushing VR issues to the backlog.

Um... no.
