New mining limpets

I'd like the same miracle probes used for planetary mapping - no mass, infinite storage - for limpets.

After that option gets shouted down because 'reasons', I'll take mining limpets as ammo with same capacity as point defense.

And integrated limpet controller like the planetary probe controller built into whatever spare part it was crammed in. And if it won't fit because that space for the miracle controller / infinite probes is being used by those items, then to be fair, I'd be fine with option switch to disable all use of probe controller / launching probes in favor of limpet controller / launching limpets mode.

To be fair though, the problem with limpets (for me at least) has never been the limpets themselves, it's the proliferation of limpet controllers. On the rare occasions I actually go mining, I'll fill up the cargo space with limpets and more often than not end up having to dump limpets to make space for refined minerals...

I'd not complain if they made limpets ammo, but it's all the different controllers that are the main limitation.

I totally agree. But I'll take any small victory I can get.

Would prefer consolidated universal limpet controller but that would require justifying some new mechanic or 'reason' - all I'm asking above is exactly what FD already does for probes. Whatever reason that can be used to explain the probes, I'll take for limpets - magic, super tech for nano-probes, etc.

Problems with limpets:
1: they're absolute lemmings. they'll fly straight into an obstacle or the ground yet they are incredibly, unbelievably, INSUFFERABLY picky about the exact distance and angle that they approach to return cargo.
2: they take up cargo when they almost certainly don't realistically weigh as much as the stuff they grab. A controller should logically have room for its own limpets, given the ABSURD mass of larger controllers.
3: restocking limpets is fiddly and clunky as hell, with no elegant UI tools to streamline the process at all.
4: the progression of limpet lifespan, max limpets and range is somehow all tied to the same controller in a completely illogical fashion along with a RIDICULOUS mass and power demand for daring to desire more than two collectors at a time.
5: Once fired, a limpet simply pops after its lifespan is up, regardless of any logic. We have no way to preserve limpets that are not destroyed.

If it's not clear by now, I DESPISE LIMPETS BECAUSE THEY ARE DESIGNED PRECISELY WRONG IN EVERY POSSIBLE WAY.
