Why you play ED?

First of all I can't create a pool so...

Pool is a hole in a ground filled with water in which you can bath or swim.
Poll is a human research survey of public opinion from a particular sample.

Now that my vocabulary OCD is sated, let's proceed :D

BTW - hope you don't mind it. I learned lots of new words from someone else correcting me that way.

Really, why you play ED?

1 - beaufiful views and I like explore, take shoots etc.
2 - kill everything what moves(fly), im bad
3 - trader, thats what I love
4 - i'm passion miner
5 - just doing everything above
6 - missions, missions, $$$ - i want to be rich and have all
7 - (sorry for this) - there is no better game now, and i'm waiting for better spece sim

My original reason to start ED was: 7.
Now it's a mix of 6 / 3 / 1, in that order, with 7 still in the background. When that "other game" show up it's not that I drop ED. No, I'll be playing both.

But truth is I played few great space games in my youth (X-Wing, TIE Fighter series, Freespace to name few) and somehow haven't encountered Elite. Later on I switched to different genre, RTS and RPGs. Few years back, out of nostalgia, I wanted to go back to space, but there was no really good title on the market. I heard of ED but somehow it didn't picked my attention. Later on I found Star Citizen an dit looked awesome (well, it's vision at least).

Researching my options I decided to give ED a go while still waiting for something else. Pure 7 reason. I had my share of pew pew so with ED I seek more calm and peaceful activities. Most of the time I run cargo missions to get enough credits to buy and outfit ships I want to have. So 6 and 3. Occasionally I go for a long exploration journey to go places and see things. Sometimes make some picture. So 1 reason.

And that's it.

Before the introduction of the FSS and attached mechanics - I would have said none of the above, ED with Horizons *was* a great space flight game with VR capability nicely melded in. I could have never seen it ever realistically being replaced by another game.

After the introduction of the FSS and attached mechanics - it is a train wreck, the FSS has totally ruined the game for me. Not played much since it's introduction and struggling to find a reason to play it now. I have however invested a lot of time and money into ED and am hoping FD can sufficiently address my complaints and make ED at least acceptable if not reclaim it's pre-FSS status.

Flying around the results of Stellar Forge, with VR and HOTAS, is the best spaceship experience there is. And now FD has slowly been adding actual game mechanics to it its even better. :)

ME:

1 and 5 + a little bit 6 but mostly 1. I'm rather explorer with some max 4grade engineering. I didn't meet Thargoind ever (and I'm happy about it)! and didn't been at guardian spots (but I will in future), for sure I do not gank, kill on site or I'm not interested with combat rank.

Somehow all of that.

I'm an old school analogue hardcore reader. I'm a scientist from education and my main love reading books was always with SciFi (90%) and Fantasy (10%) when it came/comes for entertainment.
A good story is what I enjoy most.

Good stories have an end but leave room for imagination and your own fantasy.

That's why I love games like Mass Effect or Witcher for instance. Awesome stories.

Being a kid of the sixties and having loved so much (still loving) the original Star Trek series but also its sequels, flying a space ship out there, finding the unknown, surviving adventures always was a dream.
Knowing that at my lifetime I never will be able to experience anything coming only close to that experience - particularly travelling to other star systems and being in uncharted waters - Elite: Dangerous is the closest I can get there currently.

It's the combination. Sometimes a story driven game which complements the reading experience of SciFi novels and providing an excellent and enthralling story plot (but with little means to influence the final outcome). Sometimes an open end, let me do whatever I want (even though with some limitations) story I define myself.
For the latter - nothing compares to ED.

To master the dogfighting model, rise to become recognised as a benevolent protector of the Galaxy and a formidable warrior, leading a squadron of the friendliest, finest pilots you could ever come across.

I have a ways to go, but we're getting there! lol.

Every now and then i stop to look around, but it's got such a good flight model it would be a shame to waste it doing too much other than trying to shoot off other pilots tailpipes.

Joystick curves are a crutch just like TCS, STM and ABS. Change my mind.

As a game, Elite Dangerous has its strengths and its weaknesses - but as an experience, especially in VR, it never gets old.

Haha mine mistake :D Finger just pressed double oo instead doube ll ^^

Why i started this game: A mix of nostalgia, wanting to return to some space combat, fond memories of different former versions of Elite.

Why i still play: because i just love flying the spaceships here. It might not be "realistic", but it's pure joy. Despite some changes and some of the new stuff (e.g. engineers) they were unable to break the base game of flying the spaceships. And that's what's really keeping me here. :)

Out of those 5***............. I like to do a little bit of everything aside from PvP.

***Except i am not bad. Whilst i do my fair share of killing, it is pirates and terrorists only for me. (apart from when i needed some specific materials... but i felt dirty killing innocents so not done it since)

I play for the roleplay / verisimilitude, and because in VR no other space game comes remotely close to allowing me to play "rags to riches space pilot in the 33rd century!".

Background Game Simulation - well, that was before Beyond. Now I play Minecraft and am revisiting Blizzard games (nostalgia time).
