Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

PC bits ordered! \o/
Just need the game on sale now.[yesnod]

Nice!

Post back with how you're getting on!

As for me, the Corsair RM850x has just arrived. The engineer will be fitting it on Monday as I've pinned the blueprint. In theory, I could fit it myself but a) I don't like fiddling with leccy and b) I'd invalidate the warranty.

And I'd probably blow up my house - and the rebuy on that is insane.

So, I'm limited to, for entertainment, playing a mobile game, watching Star Trek Discovery and playing "ripped-up-paper-and-empty-box-hide-and-seek" with the cats. I suppose I could... talk to people... but I'd probably end up wishing I had more arsenic for that.

I think the cold turkey is wearing off a bit now though; the night terrors of DC failure have abated somewhat.

I think you can just download but not install. Copy the exe to a pen drive. Once its built, copy the exe back and run it. Not 100% sure though so ymmv.

ETA Also, I think you can buy it and it"ll remain available for you to dl as and when.

Okay, so ED is on sale.
Can I buy it now, and then download it to my PC when it's built?
How does this work?

YES

Ok - you register on the Froniter Store with a new email address - make your purchase(s) and that's it.

You will see a menu item under "My Account" called "My Downloadable Products" - there you download the installer when your pc comes - and any other time in the future until either the rapture (when I will disappear ;) ) or F D folds.

If you buy any of the "extras" in the store whilst they are on sale they will be available in-game once you get up and running (they are tied to that account).

Para Handy gets my vote for being a mod or community advisor.

Man, I'm really sorry, that feels awful. Maybe you should buy a small laptop for less demanding games and fill it as "work tool" in your tax return! :D

Hmmm. I can't check properly, but wasn't there a paint job once that applied a gold colour to your ship?

I wanted that for my Cobra so I could be like Fred Durst ( ***warning: explicit lyric***):

There have been gold (replaced by golden) skins for various ships, they like the chrome and Black Friday are only available for limited periods.

A nice touch was when the golden skin came out you got it free if you had the previous gold one.

Just returned to Nu Tauri - one of the systems I used to bounty-hunt in back in the 1.x days. Has a nice bright A-class star, a volcanic with bright rings.. visually very pretty, and has a station right by the planet rings for quick restock.

When I returned, it's got even better. A new asteroid station has been added - Simbad's Refuge - inside the planetary rings. It's a spectacular location, and even better it's less than 1 Ls from a High RES. If you're jumping to another system, you exit the station, then typically have to fly through the ring before jumping.

But even better: when you're flying back and forth between Simbad's Refuge and the RES, you fly up a few hundred metres, then engage supercruise. There's no better sensation of speed in the entire game than supercruising just a km or so above a planet's rings. It just takes a few seconds to hop back and forth between the two locations.

For the next few weeks, I'll just be bounty hunting here, hoping to make the last hop up from Deadly to Elite.

I am currently out at BD-12 1172 an impressive system with lots of new stuff, like space caltrops, to look at.

Having seen pictures over in the Screenies 2 sticky thread I had been planing to head out here when I got my Krait Phantom finished but then the F25 paint job challenge was announced so I whistled up my longest jumping ship, a DBX, and started out.

I was within 20Ly of Sol at the time and it turns out you can't plot a route from there, so as this was a distance challenge I decided to go somewhere I knew I could reach and try again this took me to the asteroid base Darwin Research Facility out beyond the California Nebula.

From there I still could plot a direct route, so I plotted to the furthest system in about the right direction that didn't need an unknown permit to access. From there I could at last plot a route to my destination, at which point I bookmarked the system I was in so I could find my way out again.

Distance so far is just over 2,500Ly traveled since the start of the challenge, I will spend a little time here and then head back to clock up more lights.

About my ship the Diamondback Explorer "Forever", when I first tried one of these I was unimpressed and didn't really like the ship now I am much more impressed but still don't really enjoy it, people complain about its poor scooping speed which is an issue for fast travel as you are round the star and lined up for the next jump long before the tanks are topped up but this isn't an issue once you are out in unexplored space as you can spend the scooping time scanning the system with the FSS.

Nice.[up]

This is my DBX, probably my most used ship. Note smaller fuel tank, and yes, I take those weapons everywhere, have been to Sag A and back!:D
