World of Warships Vol. 2

OK, on my playlist for tomorrow in the office. :)

FYI we will get 2000 oil for the server crashes last weekend, which means our little clan can soon enable the 10% discount on T9-10 ships.

Heh, It's all on you, buddy. I didn't do squat.
And with the rate I'm currently playing at, I doubt I will ever have a T9 ship.

Well, I'm still playing, despite what appears to be a very unbalanced CV update.

Low tier/low skilled players cannot impact the game, but tier 10 CV with experienced captains sink 4-5 ships.
A shame really as I've got my Yamato, which (when no prema-flooded) is a beast. Any enemy ship that is showing a careless broadside can be erased quite quickly. She has her weaknesses, but it is very-very satisfying to fire those guns. :)
Having said that, to me Nagato's guns feel similar at T7, only mounted on a much more nimble ship.

I haven't played it, yet. And I have no love for carriers OR carrier players. Never had.
But... When you say "experienced players can get 4-5 kills", is that on par with other classes, then? :)

Or do you mean that carrier in T10 match will ALWAYS end up with those kills and on top of the score board, in which case, yeah, they're going to need to balance it a bit more.

Well, when the last surviving ships are to IJN T10 carriers and both sink 4-5 ships on each side that tells something. There is a big skill gap however.
Those who know how to exploit Hakuryu's stealth torps (8km range) can do a great deal of damage through re-runs. You get flooded out of nowhere, you damage control it, and the next wave gets you again. Also, AA damage is questionable with all the mechanics how CV players can swith to other squadrons, have unlimited planes, etc. Again, some CV players exploit these well, some don't.
Then there is the planes spotting range, practically eliminating DD stealth play.

Having said that, on lower tiers the picture is different. My Gneisenau shreds T6-7 planes and low tier torps cause much less damage too.
The whole thing feels quite unbalanced.

Yeah, I think they put it live because they weren't getting relevant data on the testing server and are going to balance it further.

I think that the biggest problem of all is that CVs now have unlimited number of planes while you simply don't have unlimited number of AA guns, so if the carrier decides to wear you down they simply will, no matter what you're doing.
Guess it's really important to always keep company. Two or three ships with overlapping AA auras can down the whole squadron with ease from what I've seen but once you're caught out alone, no matter your AA strength, it's not a matter of if, but when the carrier will kill you.
...I guess there aren't many dds around, these days.

edit:
Just watched the latest Jingles' video. It's a nice rundown of what's broken but he also mentions an upcoming patch

I'm still playing but struggling as I really don't like being carrier spammed or recce'd to death every single game.

CVs and associated passive gameplay are an issue, but I'm having good matches, especially (suprisingly) in ranked with my secondary/concealment build Yamato. :)

If you happen to be on the EU server and have free spot in your clan, I am getting lonely in the ED clan...

Sorry. :(

:D
(I started playing a little bit, again, but it's usually in ridiculous hours.)

Ill look into seeing if you might fit in ours. We have 5 or 6 elite players in there already and a faction here with the same name.

Nosing at your stats.. K/D ratio of just about 1:1 and survive 25% of battles with a nice victory ratio of 54%. That sounds like you are a fairly aggressive player. :)

As compared to me anyway.. I have a much higher K/D of 1.5:1 and survive roughly 50% of battles, but have a lower victory ratio, though that tends to even out over total games played and was a lot higher when I'd only done 3000 battles like you, rather than the 8000 I've played now.

Well, yeah, that's a fair assessment. :) I am trying to play for the objectives and do such thankless job like taking on the weak flank or escorting DDs towards the cap (with cruisers) to AA cover them and, which at the end as damage/xp/anyothermetrics doesn't really show up. Yes, I am taking risks and sometimes I get caught with the pants down, that said, I'm only YOLOing in desperate situations.

Having said that I'm not pretending that I'm top tier competitive player, I'm in for having fun, but with a half-decent team my play is useful (which probably explains the win rate).
BTW lately getting better with survival and frag rate, so as you suggest, perhaps all things even out by time. :)

This is my main game for the past few months, after leaving it alone for a year. It's fun but with aforementioned frustrations. Some really good meltdowns in chat by losing players too.

I do have an issue with the MM RNG, basically I think its broken or biased in some way.

I've been playing for years and still enjoy playing. I've studied naval conflict and know what ships are good at certain things so I play accordingly. Playing with comms between other players is a huge advantage but many ppl play solo like me. I just stay close to the group and watch the messages so I can be as much help as possible.

Sometimes I do think too. After two defeats with one ship, I usually quit trying for that session.
Interestingly, my WR with the Yamato started to climb ever since I play ranked with it... I can make more difference when I'm not that 'diluted'!

What sort of timezones are we all playing in?
I'm in the UK.

I'm CET, normally get online around 21:00 to play - that makes it 20:00 your time. My username is the same as the user on these forums.

Sounds good. I'm mostly playing NA at the moment, but could probably do with a palette cleanser from the age of diesel. :D

It looks like my main issue always was that I wasn't able to find a ship that would sit well with my playstyle.
I always quite liked the American heavy cruiser line (currently at T8), but honestly, I suck at long range. That's why I don't play BBs at all.

But recently, I finally decided to try the British cruisers. They always felt kind of weak so I didn't bother but boy was I wrong.
I played 30, 40 battles in last two weeks and I'm going through them like butter. Currently at Fiji and I have to say - I finally found "my" kind of ship. No ammo choice is a good thing for me and the smoke+hydro combo makes it so easy to farm damage and take strategic positions.
Yes, when I screw up I am dead in a second. I still have those kinds of games, but with a decent team around me, I am doing great. I can finally properly support DDs in caps and farm BBs at 15km over islands. I was the top of the team a couple of times, even. First time that ever happened to me, and I finally started to survive more often than not. And I haven't had a sub 1k XP game in a while, even the screw-ups in Fiji give me more XP than my best games in DDs or battleships.

I'm slowly building my love for this game back up.

I hear you, I am playing the Huanghe and Perth in a similar fashion. I am usually rushing to support the caps or cap myself, especially with the Huanghe as it has good concealment. I can quickly take out most DDs and cruisers that come close and flash broadside get a few AP citadels too. The major weakness is slow acceleration which makes avoiding torps when in smoke a bit difficult.

I am a BB main but enjoying almost all ships - my favorite is still the Nagato, it feels like the Yamato should feel in T10.
The only ships I simply don't get are:
Vanguard: apart of the fast rudder shift this ship has nothing, armor and guns are meh. Actually it has to be played like an IJN cruiser, but I feel in that role it is heavily compromised compared to a cruiser (my fav cruiser so far is actually the T8 Mogami edit: with the 155mm guns of course).
Friedrich der Grosse: I really love all German BBs so far, have decent WR with Bismarck, damage record witz König is 150k-ish and the Gneisenau fits my playstyle too. But the FdG is just a big moving target that can barely do anything in the first 5-10 mins of the match. Occasionally, if I manage to move the ship in partial cover it can be useful, but even if I pop the hydro the thing handles like a brick (despite fast rudder shift), so I have more time watching torps hit me.

BTW I'm still in the clan, and may even stay. I like the fact that there is no pressure to play competitively and we already have the nicest discounts on ships.

I think that it is a general consensus that FdG is one of the worst ships in the game, next to the Izumo (Which has been buffed recently and aparently doesn't suck as much, now) and Currywurst.
I have a Tirpitz (I'm stuck at Bayern on the normal tree) and I can enjoy it, too. And I think that the main problem with the two top tier Germans is that before that, you have Geenie, who is a decent sniper and Bismark, which is a close quaters heavy hitter with great secondaries and armour and after that, WG didn't really continue either of these two playstyles. FdG and GK are too big, sluggish and flammable to be brawlers and painfully inaccurate at long ranges. Just frustrating all round. That's why I kind of stopped laying that line.

And yeah, you've done awesome things for the "clan". I also am not a fan of being in a proper clan and having to do things and coordinate with ten other people. :D
And maybe we finally run into one another, one day.
