Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

After a round trip to re-pin blueprints (annoying) and fitting an A scoop to my AspX (she now sucks like an Electrolux - 0.88t/s and she fills up just while aligning to the next jump. Very comfy), I'm of the opinion she's a better explorer than my Phantom. Which I may now need to repurpose. Hmm. Food for thought as I have everything I need now (except a pure trading ship).

I love the Phantom and the Asp for exploring....like my growing combat fleet, I also have a few ships for exploration for the spice of life :)

I have my DBX...I love to use this for mat gathering trips, long trips around the bubble to get stuff. It lands anywhere easily, great range, cargo scooping is super easy. However, not quite as keen to use her on deep exploration due to the slow scooping on that big tank, and I feel a little couped up in that little cockpit after a few weeks.

Asp and and Phantom are almost interchangeable, but the Phantom has more slots for things and a cool style. The Asp I just love that cockpit and view, as well as its engine sound (sublight). Jump range is nearly a wash but the Asp has the slight edge. Both are great for deep exploration and scooping is fine with both.

I still have my 'conda for exploration as well, and is truly the 'kitchen sink' explorer, very durable, and longest jump range. Scooping is very fast with the 7A scoop, and I don't mind the freighter-like view of the front of the ship. The supercruise handling is less of an issue these days using the FSS so it's as viable as ever for LOOOOOONG trips.

Just my take anyway.

PS: Of all of them, my Asp has by far the most mileage, as that's the ship I used for the Colonia/Sag A trip.

 Just reset my game! No money, no engineers, no limits! [cool]

Such Fun!

Engineering my 'hot' scout,i noticed that my current jump range is below the minimum, and that i am .5 of a ton below the minimum weight. Is this a bad thing?
Edit:Finished. This is one slick ride.Basically a flying camera. No guns,no shields,no srv, not even a planetary scanner.Perhaps it's time to tie on the old bandana, change the name to 'dances with molluscs' and go botshat crazy.:)

I'm currently thinking about building a similar Anaconda. The Anaconda I have now is a cash cow for mining, but my Mamba is just stripped down to the bare bones, to maximize jump range, making it useless for anything than flying around looking at stuff. When it comes to jumping, scooping and looking at weird things the Mamba is still pretty damn sweet, but the Conda jumps almost twice the distance, so I have to try and see how far it is able to get in one hour.

jump in my explorer and decide to erm go 14 jumps near the edge of the bubble. earn 300,000 so far just by poping probes all over the planets:) 8 jumps left to reach destiny....hope there no tharoids about.

althought my exploration ranks seems to be stuck!!!! at 20% even thought I done a few systems, including finding a planet with 1 human on it.near did find him thou.

Your exploration rank increases when you sell the data. (It's based on credits earned) As long as you're just jumping around and exploring, it won't move

Really having fun in the HRES now. However, looking for a bit of advice. My Vulture is specc'd like this which is as good as I know how to get it - I'm sure there are one or two (or more!) things better pilots than me could advise on. Please bear in mind I'm only doing REs's for now - other combat stuff is going to need a lot more practice! Cheers!

The only thing that I would do would be changing the Shield generator from 5A to 5C bi-weave. If you engineer it the same way you've modded your 5A (Yes, I know. More engineering, probably not worth it) You will lose about 100MJ of strength but the shield regenerates more than twice as fast, which means longer overall "shielded time". That is, if you're comfortable with it, of course. Some people don't like hullk-tanking.
It also depends on the kind of encounters you're having. If your fights are short (ish) 5A is better and you simply recharge it in between fights. But if you're often fighting bigger targets or wings (=longer fights) Bi-weaves are better. When you lose 5A, it's basically down for the rest of the fight, while Bi-weave will come back up much faster and repeatedly, resulting in better protection (but also a couple scratches on the hull. :D)

Most of it looks pretty good to me but I am not a Vulture flier.

However you have far to few special effects applied all round and no engineering on your shield boosters at all, I would suggest the following special effects and one engineering and module swap as well.

If you followed the BiWeave suggestion above Fast Charge has the shields back up really fast.

I was gonna say Bi-weaves and charge enhanced PD.
But thats just my piloting style.

What kind of builds benefit from NOT having charge enhanced PD?
I have weapon focused on my old mining Python...bzzzzt, asteroid depleted. That's the only thing I can think of.

Upgraded my pirate Adder to a Cobra! With the way I have it rigged up, I can now steal 16 tons of booty instead of a measly 4 tons.

Ahoy CMDR!
My pirate ships have Engine-Focused Distributors, because they don't need SYS and my weapons aren't much of a drain either. I have 0.4.2 on my power-spread and so far, so good!

I'm waiting for the Distant Worlds second mining CG - if it's technically even a CG and trading for Rep around various Pleiades systems with my other account.

Mostly I'm avoiding all the nonsense on the forums after FDevs announcement

"It's the only way."

...and wondering why did I think I shouldn't hang around 'Newcomers' when I'm no longer new?

Gone out for a run in the DBX, it's good to get out and about.
Having a look at some bio crystal sites, very nice, lots of mats.

First time my GPU struggled, I think it's because they are very compact sites, lots of shadows.

Is that a Crystal Shard site? They are insane for high grade materials - sadly, the one I found pumped out Antinomy, which I was already full of!

And there was me thinking that this was going to be a "take off and nuke the site from orbit" reference :)

As for what I am doing... I am watching the snow come down and ruin my daffodils whilst sat listening to Thomas Tallis. Oh, and making sure the cat is comfy on my lap, which is of course, essential. A pretty nice Sunday, all-in-all, other than the ruined daffodils bit.

It is a shame about the daffodils one of my favourite flowers, my fondness for breathing and seeing would have the cat out in the snow though, allergen filled monsters all especially the cute ones.
