General / Off-Topic Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 Rides & Coasters.

Some months back whilst looking for information on a coaster that was meant to be built at Fantasy Island in the UK but was never made, I came across a forum of rides/coasters that were never built, and one post showed what the Rotating Tower Coaster from Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 was based on.

I was wondering if any of the Frontier team that worked on RCT3 could give us some insight on the more strange coasters in Rollercoaster Tycoon 3, what they were based on, manufacturers etc?

The ones in game I'm most curious about are, The Spinning Tower Coaster, The Drifting Coaster, Inverted Hairpin, Pipeline Coaster, and the very odd Splitting Coaster (this especially)
The only flat I'm curious about is the Loop The Loop :D

Isn't the drifting coaster based on the e-motion coaster from MACK? https://rcdb.com/2470.htm
It's in the general coaster description (https://rcdb.com/8415.htm), this coaster has drifting cars.

And the inverted hairpin I think is based upon fun fair coasters (Zamperla/Pinfari?): like this one: https://rcdb.com/1570.htm

Pipeline coaster: https://rcdb.com/2708.htm

The spinning tower coaster and the splitting coaster seem to me just some brain thoughts someone had but never was fullfilled, I suspect, due to safety reasons.
I'm not familiar with anything about these ones and that there where actual ideas to make one of these in real life.

The spinning tower coaster is patented by Werner Stengel. Sketches can be seen in the book about his work (100 Jahre Achterbahn - Der Achterbahndesigner Werner Stengel). The RCT version is pretty close to the sketches. Although the two-sided trains were not in the original design.

Thanks for that, that books sounds interesting [up][big grin]

Unsure with the drifting coaster, going by what RCT3 has, it looks more like the X car (similar to that G-force coaster at Drayton Manor)
I don't think the pipeline coaster is based on that, with the RCT3 one being deeper in the track, and looping, that one you posted in a bobsled type.
As for the hairpin, unsure, RCT3's swings and is floorless~

For the rotating tower one, if you scroll to the bottom of this post:

And click on the second pdf, you'll see a blueprint of how the coaster works and such :3

Yes, it´s very interesting and contains so much knowledge, Unfortunately was only available in German and it´s long out of print.
It was made as an companion piece to an exhibition on Werner Stengel, which was held in a museum around 2000/2001.

Thanks for the added info, internet is a big place so maybe it's somewhere out there, and my german is decent to say the least, so for me its worth the while.

Arrow Dynamics, thats the one :D! ty

You are welcome, I read about that one some years ago as well, because it was in RCT3, one of my favourite cousters actually in that game.
