We’ve had a number of questions about which languages will be available in Planet Coaster and with a fantastic global and international community such as this one, we wanted to share our current plans with you. Our current plan for launch is that the game will, aside from English, fully support French, German, (International) Spanish, and (Brazilian) Portuguese. Our team always aims to cater to as many community members as possible, so good localisation is a big part of the process. We may well support other languages too, after launch.

We also know that some of our community ‘Hawkeyes’ have spotted a feature currently in-game that allows players to create their own game text translations for languages that are not officially localised. This is an incredibly powerful tool that allows player communities to come together to create their own localisations, or even create fun and playful creations such as Pirate or Planco!

While we think it’s great that this creative collaboration is happening within our community and is exactly in the spirit of Planet Coaster, we’d just like to stress that Frontier is unable to officially support or validate this unofficial content at this time, and we advise all our players to use caution when deciding to view or receive files from other sources.

That being said, we are happy to see you creating and sharing your own content though, so if you do want to try your hand at translating in-game text, please follow these steps to go about it the right way:

To create and share a translation:
  1. Download the full string list in XML format from here: http://cdn.gulpeyrex.com/communitytranslations/sourcedata/alpha2/StringData.xml
  2. Download the example "Pirate English" translation, to see an example of how your final file should look like: http://cdn.gulpeyrex.com/communitytranslations/examples/PirateTranslation.xml
  3. Open StringData.xml in your favourite text editor, preferably one which provides some extra features for handling programme code
  4. Translate the game strings (the text between the quotation marks after the “translation” tag attribute), e.g. in < entry key="AutosaveName" translation="Auto save"/> you would only translate Auto save, and leave everything else unchanged.
  5. Once you’re happy with what you’ve done, launch the XML verifier tool to check if you’ve broken anything in the XML structure by accident. The verifier can be found here, and it always contains the latest game strings to check your version against: http://cdn.gulpeyrex.com/communitytranslations/tools/communitytranslationverifier/publish.htm
  6. Name your file clearly: [language]_[locale or flavour]_[translator’s name]_[version].xml
    E.g.: English_AhoyPirates_thisIsMe_v0.1.xml
  7. Upload and share your translation with the community in whatever way you find most convenient

To download and use someone else’s translation:
  1. Download their custom XML file, and save it to: %localappdata%\Frontier Developments\Planet Coaster\Translations
  2. From Steam, right click on the Planet Coaster icon in your library and select Properties.
  3. Click the SET LAUNCH OPTIONS... button (this is on the General (default) tab)
  4. Type the following command into the box that appears: -translation [file name here].xml
    E.g.: -translation English_AhoyPirates_thisIsMe_v0.1.xml
  5. Click OK, launch the game, and enjoy the custom content!

Thanks! Are you able to confirm that units of measurement will have options other than metric such as imperial (United States Standard)?
 
Wow, there are so many things confirmed in this XML file.
Just read through all the items. You can find things like "first aid facility", new rides and the thoughts of the peeps. Interesting stuff.

2) From the Frontier Launchpad, select Planet Coaster > Settings > Set Launch Args
3) Type the following command into the box that appears: -translation <file name>.xml
4) Click Save, launch the game, and enjoy the custom content!

Is it possible you to create a tutorial in French?
 
Nice news!!! Thank you Frontier to add Spanish to the lenguages included and... yep!! That ADITION to add our translations is good n.n
 
Oh, international spanish, the language that doesnt really exist as much as microsoft likes to use it to mean a conglomerate of latin american spanish languages. Are you going to translate it with google translator (its not the first game ive seen done something like this)? Or are you going to hire a butched neutral spanish translator?
Right now it doesnt matter becuase most of the text in the game are super technical things, but the badly neutral translation will start to creep its ugly head when you go after ride descriptions, or if you try to give some sense of story to campaign mode.

I suppose someone would have to go in and do a castillian spanish translation, and other people from the community do a mexican spanish translation, and a peruvian one, argentianian, etc...), because the iternational thing caters to no one at the end. Hoping we can release this translations on the steamworks community like easy to install mods in the future. What I mean is at the end of the day, no one is going to want to use that neutral spanish translation, if there are better various spanish translations done by the community, so why bother losing money on that (if you are hiring someone I mean), just do like you are doing with the brazilian portuguese one, and stick with the language of the spanish talking country with the biggest videogame market.

At least the good news here is you are giving the chance to easy find and translate the files for the community to do the work, not all games make it that easy.

Is it possible you to create a tutorial in French?

Maybe someone who knows french can help you with that, but is pretty easy. Download the files Frontier gives you here, and then a useful txt editing program like Notepad ++ to edit the text in the first .xml file (only the words after translation need to be translated)

There's something I don't understand. There's such a large Dutch community, and quite a few of the master builders on YouTube are Dutch, including THE number 1 master builder (according to me and many others ;)) Silvarret. So why oh why... is Dutch not included in the available languages at launch?

Because you guys seem to speak English very decently (at least one could come to that conclusion when watching Silvarret and De-Lady-Signer) and will be fine with the original English version? :D It's always astonishing, comparing people from the Netherlands speaking English to fellow "Tschörmäns traying to schpeek Inglisch". ;-)
 
As long as the game support local letters for ingame typing in names, signs and billboards, I think most of us will be fine for the time being.
