Don't bring the content with DLC's

dlcs dont always have to be bad.they can be for free to (witcher 3 has many for example).

the devs said, and i believe them on this one, they want to continue to develope this game over the next 5 years or maybe even more to make it even better. if a dlc, lets say a dlc with a new theme or new flat rides, is not to expensive im all up for it because it will help to support this game and make it better in the longterm.

but nowadays much aaa games are releasing dlcs right from day 1. they hold content back just to squeeze out the customer. thats very shady and why i decided not to buy any more games from EA. they will learn only the hard way. sooner or later.

Then it's a "free update" !

No need to use the term "DLC" that have a negative connotation (I guess more or less depending on the country, but still) and means, in the collective mind, that it's not free, just because DLC are paying in most cases (not 100%, but close).

So yeah, DLC literally means "Downloadable Content", but everyone knows that this word has been corrupted by some studios.
I am truly convinced that Frontier should NEVER use such misleading terms (DLC is not the only one) in particular given the very "clean" brand image that they have for now. [yesnod][up]

Hmmmm ... The "I want to support" is not sufficient to justify the sale of content, making the game better for the players who have the least money. People can buy the game, and the expansion packs to support the game.

The market is large enough to generate more than one billion euro with only the sales of the game and expansions if they manage to open the game to a wider audience.
(25 millions sales, including the game + expansion packs, if the game is translated, at end of life, is not impossible at all. It's a challenge yes, but it is not impossible for a game of this quality)

Frontier can even sell derivatives products which does not influence the game itself. (The "false brands" they are creating are a source of income that they should not ignore, just my opinion)
No need to transform this game into a slot machine by selling the content (Especially for "themes" that users could create themselves with a good UGC system).

They need to sell the "game" (the gameplay, the mecanics, the tools), not the content !!!
If they do, this will be done at the expense of our freedom to produce content ourselves. Maybe not at the begining, but after a while, It's 100% guarantee.

If they really want to sell additional "cosmetic" things (which would be very greedy), then they should not touch the content (themes, rides, facilities, or anything else that is important for the game) but they can sell things like, I don't know, a hat for your "avatar", or a special costume for the character you use in the "first person visit mode", or things like that, which has no impact on what the player can build or not.

If there is a value behind it. No problem with DLC.
Buying it piece by piece or as an expansion pack makes no difference to me. And i am aware that DLC might be a bit more expensive in the end.

I have seen some games where DLC was no more than the ability to change your avatar's shirt or pants and they wanted about $10 for it. I'll bet they got a few suckers to buy it, but I hope that Frontier (and I honestly think they won't) doesn't go that route. Based on the past with this type of game, I think they will go the expansion pack route, at least I sincerely hope that is what they will do because a decent expansion pack gives you more bang for your buck than cheap DLCs.

I would much prefer expansion packs that contain a fair amount of content. I am not completely opposed to smaller DLCs if they still contained a fair amount of content for a decent price, for example like the Sim's Stuff packs. I would not want to purchase any credits to buy anything, but pay in cash, otherwise you are forced to have an ewallet full of credits you can only spend with the game. I stopped playing The Sims because from Sims 3, the game was lacking in content (furniture, clothing, hair styles) and the price of like a single room set was far beyond what a 'Stuff' pack would cost which would have 5x more content. It needs to be a fair amount for the development gone into it. Not something pricey for a re-skin of existing content.

I'm really torn on paid DLCs. In some games and in some situations I don't mind it, an example for me is Overwatch where the paid DLC is to get loot boxes that reward you player skins, emotes and general aesthetic stuff that doesn't change the game much. The trouble with Planet Coaster is the aesthetic stuff will matter as the game is somewhat based around you making a fancy looking park! I understand why developers do paid content but it can feel like a bit of a drag when you go to buy a game and notice it has hundreds of paid DLCs.

I've never minded paying for full expansion packs as they tended to have a ton of extras like items and even new gameplay mechanics thrown in. That said I'm not adverse to paid DLCs as long as it's not each new item released is behind a paywall. I think throw a few free updates out and perhaps a cheeky paid DLC for something that is a bit more, like a 1/3 expansions packs worth of content that's fairly priced. That way there is a developer incentive to release new stuff and I think people would feel less duped as they're not content bare and actually worth having. A few free items placed out every now and then would go a long way to help keep the players happy.

It is funny, [haha]
I just finished the video.

Huh ? ...

Amazing ! The end of the youtube video is a DLC !!!
Sooooo coool !!!

So, let's see ! To have the right to buy this very cheap "AMAZING Ending" DLC (it's just 2,49 €, worth it), I need to find the "Key to Premium Cashshop" which is hidden in a "Gold Box", which appears randomly in "Silver boxes" that you can buy for only 1,99 € (Really ? ONLY ??? So cheap) in the "Classic Cashshop". If I'm lucky I can find a gold box after just 50 try.

Some say there are other extraordinary DLC in the "Premium Cashshop", like the "Back to Home Super Power" DLC, allowing you to return to the youtube homepage, and it costs onlyyyyy 9,99 € !!! It's nothinggggggg !!! AMAGAD !!!!!!!!!!!

It seems 100% fair to me, so I can support youtube.

... Wait, what ? [rolleyes]

Personally, i love DLC's. I actually hope they have DLC's after the initial release. I would imagine water rides would be an expansion pack, another being parades/fireworks/events, and i'm sure we will see others. DLC's bring an opportunity to have a cheap pack of some new features, whether its a new theme with a couple rides or maybe new dark ride features. I still hope/think the base game will be packed with fun features for hours of enjoyment, but DLC and expansion packs are a wonderful opportunity for us to get some nice new features and for Frontier to make a quick profit.

It is not realeased yet. But there's not too much time left!

And compare the amount of scenery, coaster / flatride - types, scenery, scenarios aso. from older rct's to this alpha version! How could they do this in just 3-5 months?

What makes you think this? Who said that we got all content they have completed in the current alpha? Most of the scenery pieces are more or less the same. Yes, they may look different but they work the same. Same with flat rides. Not much that differs them apart more than some animation. Same with roller coasters, at least of the same type. We do need to test wooden at some point yes but the point is the same.

Go back 3-5 months and we had nothing. To me there is plenty of time left. I am not worried about content. We already have much more than RCTW as an example.

Indeed
If they go down the road of "DLC" AND/OR "CashShop", I would leave the ship, and use other methods than using my credit card to access the content.
But I'm sure they have honor and respect for the players (and, incidentally, for the image of their company too)

Exactly the same for me.

There will be DLC content later be it an expansion pack or flat ride pack or similar as that is the best way to add content in the future at reasonable development costs.

To suggest otherwise that all DLC in the industry is bad is silly. We have had DLC content for over a decade just known as expansion packs, it is just that certain companies have realised they can release 1 item at a time for higher profit than bundling in 50 items at a lower rate.

The name of what it is doesn't change what we are actually buying, as long as the content is of high quality and valued at the right level then there is no issue for DLC release.

People suggesting otherwise are just ignoring the market that we have in the games industry now. Vote with your wallet if you think it is too high a price to pay for what you are getting and/or wait for a sale of the content.

I haven't read all the way through this but assume we had another RCT3 Soaked and Wild expansion pack (which is a DLC) then you are saying that you wouldn't buy it?

Or don't buy it at all!

That is why I stated and/or

still not sure why people are getting rubbed the wrong way with this though, DLC content has been in management games since they existed.

Curlyriff I think what rubbed a lot of people the wrong way was how the pay for play games used that same idea, eventhough they didn't call it DLC, to practically rob you blind with stuff that had no real value; or the DLC of items in regular games where they charged an outlandish price for one item. Now when anyone mentions DLC, it brings back a bad taste.
