ANNOUNCEMENT April Update - Coming 23 April 2019

I started playing in Dec 2018, fell in love with the game, and I have logged hundreds of hours. Like many of you, I'm more excited about having an extra size 1 optional slot on my Corvette than I am in any starting areas.

But the people who are going to really benefit from the new starting areas/auto-pilot/etc. don't read this forum at all. They're going to help the people I manage to talk into playing with me. Having just recently tried to walk people through docking, undocking, and supercruise, boy am I excited about any features that make those systems more accessible.

It doesn't make sense for autopilots and supercruise assists to take up optional slots in the first place. They should be classed as utilities and take up utility slots, or take up no slots at all and be toggleable from the right hand panel.

New systems for new players is pointless. Games been out for how long and we wanna start this stupid stuff now? Stop wasting ours and your time and actually improve the game, not add more nonsense
poopoo like this is why the player base has dropped
I feel like this is a quite bad way to think about it. In December following the release of Beyond Chapter 4 Elite regularly maintained 12K players active for about 3 weeks straight. And that does not include the people who play Elite without Steam. Not only was this high player count because of the Beyond update but also because Elite was 75% off on steam.

Therefore Frontier are laying the groundwork for the 2020 expansion, when that comes out we can probably expect another huge steam sale and also a big jump in active player base if the new "Big" DLC has something substantial such as Space legs or atmospheric planets. Frontier are working to hook in those new players who will flock to Elite for the hype and therefore keep them playing the game for longer, which in theory increase the chances of in game items like camos, ect.

Elite is going to be updated until 2024, we are only half way through the game's development cycle. Plenty more players will join Elite so I don't know why you are acting like a new player experience isnt needed, when quite frankly the new player experience is awful.

I'm wondering if the trading changes mean that the requirement to have docked in a system before you can see trade data from it is going away.

I totally agree, there should be computer module which allows multiple items in. Max of 2, your choice which 2 you install.

Maybe be planet bookmarks, but don't allow enough room for this and all new auto options

My experience has been the opposite...I have so many different options that it is overwhelming at times.
Perhaps the problem is you look at things from the perspective where you feel you must pursue your goals by following the "optimum" way of doing it. This game is, in my mind, a sandbox game....thinking in terms of "optimal" and "most efficient" is just the wrong way to approach it and bound to lead to disappointment imo.
I respect your right to completely disagree and see things differently though.

Only a fool would argue with a fact, with that being said, every perspective has some semblance of fact/truth in it. I think you're right. What I've expressed was the mindset of everything about the game when I started playing elite. It was always "grind this and grind that" on different forums, even the game reviews spoke of everything as a "grind task" instead of it being an "experience." It's not too late, I'll try to use your perspective when I play ED again. Thanks for sharing.

Please don't tell me the docking computer STILL uses a general slot, needlessly, just making people "pay" to enjoy the game? ie: The docking computer offers no advantage, combat or any other sort, and in truth means you dock etc slower than manually, but for some pointless reason you need to "pay" with the loss of a slot just to use this feature?

Here's hoping the slot it fits into is a dedicated "Docking Computer Slot" that has a docking computer or does not... Done! Because this would be the most logical, best outcome for all, with NO downside.

To confirm the new slot on the medium and large ships is a size one.

And this folks is proof from our very own dev at frontier that balance is of no concern for Fdev, a Size 1 slot for all Medium and Large ships will benefit some more than others assuming a docking computer is not used, once again the FDL is made stronger and the level of balance swing further and further out of the window...

🙏 6 booster FDL 🙏

Looks like some interesting changes to get more players into the game.

Am looking forward to seeing the changes to community events, and maybe some ‘dangerous areas’ to balance out the ‘playpens’..

Oh come, we both know that nothing's been balanced in this game since the Geat Python Nerf of '03

Beginners' Zone

A new collection of systems has been added for newly-created Commanders, and can only be accessed by pilots until they earn their first Combat, Trade or Exploration rank. In addition, the authorities here will provide simpler missions that even the smallest of Sidewinders can complete.

Across the galaxy, new Commanders will also have a reduced rebuy until they gain their first Combat, Trade or Exploration rank, a step in the path towards greatness!
So this is basically an acknowledgement of how the C&P mechanics aren't working?

I wonder if we'll now simply see gankers have a second account aimed at simply "farming" in these zones... With guaranteed noobs only!

Cause you're doing just fine alone

Anyway I, for one, will welcome a 10-slot Cobra MK4.

If Fdev ever offer it on PS4...
The Cobra IV is getting 3 class 8 slots, a boost to the power plant, fsd and thrusters,to bring it in line with the courier, and an extra 4 class 3 hard points.
