ANNOUNCEMENT April Update - Coming 23 April 2019

Thanks for the updates FD. Keep 'em coming. You told us this was going to be focusing on new players and bug fixes, but I see the usual serial moaners have turned up, thinking every ship is now going to have training wheels on. :giggle: Looking forward to what 2020's update brings.

This update worries me and the only thing that could save it from disaster is an open beta everyone can participate in.

Controversial statement inbound: The PvPers will be the best people to know about how to fix this disaster of a patch before it happens.

The blanket buff to all ships will further increase the gap between all other ships and those that stand out. Some ships need a buff or at least need to be reworked, absolutely. Buffing everyone, including ships that don't even belong in the class of ship that they are in is a really bad idea. If you're someone that thinks the Vulture or the FDL needs a buff, then you're out of your mind. Would it be nice to see ships like the T6 Tendie Box get a look over and fixed up a bit? Yes. And it makes more sense than giving all ships a C1 slot. To the average player, a C1 slot isn't a big deal. To a PvPer that will literally lightweight their life support to get a 3 m/s gain, it's huge.

The best solution to giving ships more slots for docking computer/automated supercruise would be to add another internal slot akin to the planetary module that's installed in all Horizons owners ships. There. Done. No awful blanket buffs. Still disagree with that because you should have a cost to choosing automation but I'd much rather see this over a C1 blanket buff.

It's my opinion that automation for SC/undocking will increase bot activity. Those of us that have tried to get Frontier to take action against cheaters know Frontier's history a bit personally. They don't. And with bots doing their thing in PG/Solo, they will never get reported. Now it will be even harder to track bots because half of the automation is now a feature of the game.

This Supercruise Assist should auto navigate to the selected target IMO. Like auto pilot. What is described (only speed management) is almost nothing.
Agreed. I'd rather have the computer take care of the course hold part (the boring part where you nudge the stick a tiny bit to correct for drift) and leave the throttle part to the pilot (the only part of Supercruise where the timing skill and attention actually matter).

Don't get me wrong: having BOTH would also be fine but whatever features are implemented it should facilitate being able to read GalNet or get up for a quick drink or toilet break.

Advanced Docking Computer? Supercruise Assist?!?!?!!

Are the medium and large ships getting a size 1 module slot as well or will they be getting a slot that is more suitable for their size. (ex a size 4 on a krait/ python a size 6 on a type 9 or anaconda.) Honestly i can make use even if its a 1 on all ships.

They come pre-installed.

I might be wrong but the OP seems to suggest that they ARE regular modules "available from outfitting" rather than being integral to the ship (like the FSS, for example).

Presumably, the idea of pre-installing them on small ships is simply so that a newbie can jump into a new ship and fly it without having to figure out how outfitting works or where to find various modules.

If you don't want 'em, remove 'em.

I've been saying on the Oculus forums for a long time that this game has just got easier and easier until it's pretty much like space kindergarten - this seems to take it even further that way. It's become so easy it's just boring now, when starting from zilch (bought a new account recently, so I speak from fresh experience of starting with nought). Easy money - without using "get rich quick" schemes or exploits - easy combat evasion (so nothing to be scared of) and easy promotion.

What this game needs is more challenge, not more hand-holding.

🤔🤔
So new players will have an Advanced Docking computer installed and then there’s auto docking/undocking and auto supercruise to destination.
Basically half the things in the game that requires improving personal skills will be automated from the start...
What’s different than watching someone playing the game on Twitch then?
People will never learn to do something if you just automate it from the start.

I see new players playing in solo mode, selecting a destination and then the docking computer and auto cruise take them there while they do anything else. Trading commodities without playing. The step to boredom is really small.

Will - another possible issue.

I'm sure some gankers are already rubbing their hands with glee at the new starter bubble and are planning on camping inside the new system before patch day.

Have you given any though to this, and do you have plans to somehow eject anyone who shouldn't be in there?

I'd assume it will be like an inverse permit lock: You have the permit until you are ranked up enough, then you lose it.

:D S

So beginner zones and more automated flight stuff.... I guess ED is becoming more like a themepark...

Next up -

Autopilot
Leveled/rank locked systems based on sec status
complete return of ship and cargo with no rebuy
