No Flight Assist for CMDRs in deep space?

I assumed the new modules would be fitted in slots on our ships. So to get them we have to come all the way back to a station?

I was so looking forward to some cruise assist while looking out the window in VR or enjoying g the external camera suite as I approached planet orbit...

So to be clear these need to be bought?

Yes, they are not automatically retro-fitted to older ships. They do come pre-installed on new ones (at least, the Sidewinder, I can confirm has them). All you get is the extra slot(s).

I know you guys are hard-core purest Explorers spending months in the far reaches of the Galaxy. Wouldn't that ruin your immersion to all of a sudden magically have modules in your ship when you never landed at a station? I for one would not want to wake up thirty thousand light-years away from the bubble and have modules in my ship that I didn't have the night before. That is unless they were put there by aliens. Now if the alien story could be floated then perhaps the real explorers might feel they've actually discovered something. If the NACA NACA tribe of the forbidden zone made a surprise visit to their ship while they were sleeping and embedded those modules in their ships that would be quite a story. Of course only the commanders who have not done bad things to the forbidden zone would qualify. The NACA NACA tribe would keep a list of who's been naughty and who's been nice and they would have to come down the cargo hatch.

No worse than my sudden computer UI upgrade, or when I logged in and found an avatar in the pilots seat, or when all of a sudden all the planets with cities suddenly lit up on the night side.

As far as I’m concerned, updates just turn on what has always been there. It doesn’t need explaining.

That would ruin it for me. I would probably log off and never play again.

The only concern would be sudden increase in power draw if they added them automatically?

I still say that all this flight assistance stuff should just be built in to all ships as a software update, remove related modules and let people decide how they want to play (a bit like with the FSS).

After that we can have a long argument about the new slots that got added to accommodate the modules and if those should go away...

That's me though :)

Like many other explorers who are veterans of the 1.4 fiasco, I made sure I was nice and safe back in the Bubble when the update landed. FD have had too many updates in the past where explorers were left in the lurch with a game-killing bug introduced with an update.

For the record, only Small ships get a free (loaned) Supercruise Assist module added to the off-the-shelf model when bought; they also get the new Advanced Docking Computer. Medium and Large ships only get the Advanced Docking Computer installed as standard in their single extra slot.

The space station where I've got all my ships stored is an Agricultural station and didn't have any Supercruise Assist modules for sale. So I bought a bunch of Sidewinders and Eagles, and stripped them of their loaned components before reselling them. That gave me a stash of the new modules I could fit into all my stored ships. So I don't know how much a normal, non-loaned Supercruise Assist module costs, or what kind of station sells them (I didn't see any for sale at an Industrial station I visited, either, so presumably they're High Tech gear).

I've now headed off on my next months-long voyage, so I hope I learn to like Supercruise Assist in my AspX, because I'm stuck with it now.

I had hoped that the SC assist module would be fitted into the new slot automatically for existing ships so that I could try it out while approaching Beagle Point on DW2. Wasn't holding my breath, but thought it would have been nice to play with.

I don't understand why the SCA has to be in a module. Surely it is just a software upgrade and can be beamed to me either over Galnet (no trouble getting articles from the bubble that don't concern me), or they can use a sub-carrier on the HoloMe thingummy-jig that I don't use either. I hear that has a huge bit-rate.

The game has had countless updates over the years, even certain ships mass and performance has changed whilst cmdrs are out in the black. Don't think anyone is thinking too deep about it, just a game buddy.
So I should send this Captain Kirk uniform back?

All I know is that there is a weird loading screen with my ship docked when I haven't been to a port in several months and someone felt the need to unassign my honk button.... Kind of loosing interest in this game, to be honest. The galactic sci-fi sim is great and all, but other than that it doesn't seem like I'm the target "consumer" anymore.

Have fun playing bumper cars or whatever you guys are doing to get your kicks these days.

* drinks * :p

We had the problems before. If the modules are fitted in-flight, people throw a tantrum because their carefully engineered zero-power-overhead builds are broken overnight, if they are not added people throw a tantrum because they are not added in-flight.
It's good as it is: if you want a new module, fly to a starport and equip it.

My honk button was disconnected too, it took 2 mins looking in the options menu to find it located in the FSS (where it probably should have been all along) I assigned it, shrugged and went about my business.

Life really doesn't need to be a drama.
