Am I The Only One That Hates The New HUD?

Can someone test if it's standard that you always have to move the cursor "one up" to select the target when using the left hand menu?

This I don't care for either. Extra key strokes for very common stuff like locking a target seems like it should be a rather obvious DON'T DO IT.
The selected box, Back or Lock, stays where you left it last... So if you lock a target, and close the panel, the next time you select a target the box is on Lock. If you select a target and then select Back, the next time you select a target the box is on Back.
It doesnt revert to a default position, so it will not be a case of muscle memory quick selection, it will be where did I leave it last? as it currently stands.

Meh. I dint like it neither. Its actually put me off playing a little. Seems more convuleted and geared for total noobs. Everything has an explanation/description, pressing the wrong key now gets a notification telling you which key to press i.e. i hit the wrong key for changing mode from combat to survey, and i get a 'you need to press B or X382726' or something on my hotas. Kind of immersion breaking. And the loading screen now has stuff all over it, tips and stuff, instead of the minimalist spinning ship that i really liked.
Seems more like an mmo like wow now, three million things on the screen telling you what to do and how to do it. Well.. Not all over the screen but going thru the panels.
I play less and less with every update.
Is it just me or have all FD done is add more convuleted nonsense to the UI, made a safe space for new players and just changed a few things around on the panels and not ACTUALLY done anything like address bugs, imbalances, gameplay.
Its not like the UI panel needed fixing or anything.
Good grief.
I mean get the darndiddley engineers and mat gathering stuff sorted out first so we can enjoy the darndiddley game.
Im off to play Forza horizons. I played for 5 hours have a garage full of cars, custom paint jobs, modded and tuned and raring to go. And i grinned from ear to ear as i played. And am nowhere near finishing the main game.
Wake up FD.

All this shizzle is bindable to my TM1600 and hasn't changed?

Yes its a custom load-out but this is like miniscule compared to the improvements, especially in the Trading screen(s).

I like the Orange - it reminds me of the '70's...……………....

But does it feel like you're on a gaming console playing a game or like you're sitting in an actual space ships when you look at the controls?
For me that's the critical point. The illusion and simulation. For me the tiles and overall interface changes take that away bit by bit.
As someone else says, console players aren't asking for convoluted HUD either. As for controls, aren't the pop-up displays supposed to simulate a "touch screen" similar to an iPad? Or are they simulating a display that's manipulated by controls on the arms of the chairs our pilots sit in? Now that I think of it, it's not like I see a virtual hand touching the screen.

Oh, and what about HOTAS flyers? I'm on DS4, which I think is probably easier for moving around menus and such than a HOTAS (but I honestly don't know). Perhaps HUD is made with HOTAS in mind.

Anyway, our ships are not like an airplane with physical toggle buttons and dials.

Given the reduced amount of keys on a console controller it make even less sense for Fdev to lock everything behind additional button presses.

So no its got nothing to do with consoles, its just typical Frontier wanting to add more tedium into the game.

Yeah, im sure they sit there thinking "How can we add more tedium to the game?"

I do get where people are coming from, the panels are taking a bit of getting used to (and seem a bit laggy on my end).

Overall though, I actually really like the direction FD are taking by sprinkling some glitter on things. It will all look more interesting and visually attractive to a newer player imo.

And I do like that new main menu! 😆

Need I go on.
It might be silly to you but its my opinion that they are.

I could go further into why I think this but frankly I find this discussion tedious.
Your opinion has no basis in fact. You can believe they do this to add tedium to the game, you can believe the sky is green and the grass is blue. Just because you believe it does NOT make it fact. I don't like the fact that stations need so ungodly an amount of materials to repair themselves, but I'm not going to say that FD did that to add tedium to the game. Why would they ever want to add tedium to a game they developed? I'm sorry. That is a non-sequitur.

So...

Does this mean we need a UI configuration panel in the UI? Then we can adjust it to something more to our liking (but presumably still above the complaint threshold).

I think the new layout has some pluses and minuses. I'll get used to it in time I imagine.

On Xbox there has always been a dropdown menu when selecting a player, as far as I know. Gives us a 'show gamercard' option. Useful for seeing who's human without a scan.
