An Alternative To The Current Drag SE

Since Frontier may revisit drag effects, I have a sincere questions for the experts (I'm not mocking) - would you guys be okay if Drag Munitions literally removed all pips to thrusters instead of just simulating it via maneuverability? This would be a compromise between no boost (recent update) and permaboost, as boosting would quickly drain the capacitor, so players would need to be wise with their boosting while under the Drag effect.

Obviously I think this is a good idea (as all my ideas are good ideas, LOL), but I'm not a professional PvPer, and I submit to your wisdom on the matter.

It would be as bad, as the empty capacitor wouldn't allow you to boost, and the cooldown is propably not long enough for the cap to regenerate before it's emptied again.

I reiterate: fix the underlying issue of perma boost by adjusting boost times, engine cap drain and / or cap recharge, for all ships, instead of invent another magic special weapons effect.

Also the suggestions forum is that way in the dark corner 👉

You'll forgive me for disagreeing, because you could boost a few times, you would just have to be more "intentional" with the timing. If DMs don't affect boost at all, then they seem relatively pointless in PvP. Though I do concede that if Frontier did "nerf" boosting in general, as you suggest, then DMs might be more useful. So maybe I don't disagree. Either way, this is less of a suggestion than it is a discussion-starter, because I freely admit I'm a noob PvPer.

It would likely be marginally less impactful than it currently is, but I'm still convinced it would remain the effect to have.

If we're looking to reign in boosting, I'd prefer to target boosting, not weapon effects, and I'd prefer to go the distance. Make boost forward only, cut boost acceleration, and tweak the distributor blueprints so something other than charge enhanced is viable.

You might be on to something here. However most CMDRs including myself run "Pip Macros" for on the fly pip management. Before long we would just laugh at drag because we can switch pips back so fast.

Ah, I guess I misunderstood it as eng charge instead of pips.

The Drag effect has always felt like a stupid Mario Kart effect but at least it could be ignored with skillful use of boost/faoff.

This proposal sounds awful.

Mario Kart? I think you are on to something, GunnerBill.

Frag BANANA AMMO!

It actually makes you boost, pips or not, in random directions while spinning and tumbling.

Maybe instead of disabling Boost completely, it just reduces your boost value by 50%? ie. 4 Pips to engine gives you 300 top speed, boost 350 (I am making these figures uop btw) with drag munitions on your boost is reduced to 325. Multiple hits have no cumulative reduction??

Does that still ruin PvP?

Does it make Ganking easier?

Should the drag munitions be limited to missiles only? Non packhound?

Or is this too nerfy?

I think it should be how it is, kill the ability to boost only. BUT, it needs a cooldown on the effect like they did with tlb

I would remove drag (assuming it keeps the boost lock) from frags and add a shot speed reduction to it. If a missile would lose 15% of its speed and maybe even lower its rate of fire by 50% or more, it could work out. This would be much easier to defend against it. A FDL for example could simply boost away and point defence has an easier target.
The effect itself is a good addition to piracy, but it must be balanced.
