Driving around a planet certainly allows you to get to know your SRV. While I haven't achieved orbital speeds yet, my cruising speed is gradually creeping up. I hit a top speed of around 220m/s during my flyve yesterday. Of course, one problem with travelling at speed is that you need to allow a lot of time to slow down...

You didnt seem to be even trying to use it. Would have killed a lot of velocity and reduced the bouncing.
