Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Yup. It's the explorers risk .But as there's no one else to blame it's kind of pure as well. There's always plenty more to find and the benefits are sort of intangible (the views, arriving in one piece, the jolt when you actually find something interesting or novel, etc.),but in my view worth the 'pain.

I've restarted my main account (again). After about an hour of jumping around and scanning things, I've unlocked Felicity and kitted out a DBX with some light mods (can't be bothered by specific mats hunt) and I'm heading out to tour the near-bubble supergiants. I expect to hit exploration Elite later this week.

...the game is broken.

LOL.
Hubris.(see previous post)
Woke up bright and fresh ready to move off.Warm up with a little canyon run and goodbye scan data, hello mr. re-buy. Seriously. Up for less than two minutes.
On the up-side,i now have two free slots ! So now i have room for a scarab and an extra afmu.
I'm going to have to start making some credits on this one. I'm down to my last 320 mill, and i have no idea how much scan data has been lost in the last 2 months, but my estimate is @500 systems + .
My progress towards gitting goodness proceeds apace. :giggle:

Spectacular views make it all worth it.

Bummer, (EDIT: you can't say "*ugger?") matie. I feel your pain with my recent buffoonery as well, and had a really close call yesterday coming in way too hot to land on a HMC world and knocking myself down to 10%! I played it safe the rest of the way back to Witch Head (no planetary excursions and extra careful docking!) and made it there OK.

After spawning at the Penitent, transferring my Vulture there and heading to Copernicus observatory (forgot the system) for some much-needed stress relief I decided I'd go ahead and make my way to somewhere I could get a Supercruise Assist module. Finding one on the Wiki about 250LY away I plotted my route, but before I left decided to check out the observatory's inventory and lo and behold, there it was! So I killed a few more criminals while my DBX transferred from the Penitent, got the SA mod and made some more loadout tweaks (like an SRV, hence the aforementioned crash) before heading back to the Witch Head Science Station. had several opportunities to employ the new module, and holy crap is it awesome! Not only are there no more overshoots, but the orbit feature is great for scouting surfaces and getting screenshots, tricky as it may be. It's also really nice to be able to utilize supercruise transit times for screenshots, route planning, system map examination etc since you don't have to pay attention to where you're going anymore.

Anywho, despite all that the trip to Witch Head was a little depressing, it being a do-over, (and not lucrative), so I'm glad I've arrived and can resume my previously planned excursions. I'm going to get around the nebula a bit before heading off to the Orion Nebula and its tourist center before passing through all the Bernard's loop features on my way to Orion's most distant star. I got the SRV because I'm thinking about collecting jumponium, specifically to attempt to keep going out to some locales mentioned in this post further out that way where it looks like things get pretty sparse. We'll see how all that goes and I'll make the call once I get to Sigma Orionis.

only mission that gets my goat is the 1t meta alloys for Felicia farseer , I just can't be bothered with jumping that far(maia) for 1t and going to the other side of the system to install the modifications (deciate). Don't waste my time, it periocious

I quite enjoyed that journey and I got my first hyperdiction en route back. That was a pooey moment.
okay I taken the plunge (no pun indented - I did manage to land on the planet, with only a slight hull scratch). At maia now, re-routed back to decate (70 jumps).ready for tomorrow. cargo 1t ( meta alloys)

Nice ! what ship u flying?

And what modules do you have? 70 jumps seems quite a lot. However, take your time and don't try to rush it. You'll make it and you'll be glad you did when you see how much extra range you get on an engineered FSD!

Being able to scoop fuel is also a boon on long journey's as you don't to be so concerned about finding stations for refuel when plotting your route.

70 jumps sounds like a C-rated Sidey with guns or a freshly bought E-rated Hauler. :)
...or somebody forgot to tell Banger that he can switch from economical to fastest routing.

I originally skipped the Hauler, during my blind grind for the Mamba, but it's a neat little ship that I'm becoming quite fond of.

ZP ofcurz :) The only error they really made was the offset seat in the FDL. To quote the Yamiks: "WHY???"

I suppose that isn't a direct quote? I believe the original question was much... spicier.

That seems like a lot of jumps! If I were you I would go into Galaxy Map and check if Fastest Route is checked, not Economical. ;)

I would not recommend that :) Yes, it will take a longer time to get there, but take your time and see all those space beauties. As additional bonus you will collect a lot of exploration data which you can sell to Farseer, gaining reputation and money. This is my advice to every beginner. :)

I would not recommend that ............. This is my advice to every beginner..........

I wonder how many of those have left the game after being bored doing dozens of jumps instead of a few tens? I think your advice is flawed.

e.g. 45 instead of 14 from Teppanik to Maia with 23ly jump (I don't have a ship with lower ;) )

Agree with you aswell. It depends on the player completely - if they've travelled this route before/seen all the views/sold all the data and don't want to invest their time into this, then why not go fast? Also, Economical Route has ridiculous limitations to the jump range.

I think there is some truth to his advice, but it's important for a newcomer to know they have a choice. One results in a lot of jumps and lot of visited places (therefore a lot of money) and the other is quick. :)
Naturally if a newcomer doesn't know he doesn't have to spend whole day traveling 500LY, they will get annoyed and leave.
