Passenger upgrades

Why is it not possible to bump passengers up a class when doing bulk passenger missions?

For example if I have capacity for 8 luxury and 36 first class passengers in my Beluga, I am unable to take mission for 42 first class and bump 6 of them up to luxury because I don't have enough cabins of the correct class. Surely I should be able to upgrade a few up to lux at no extra charge to make them fit? Surely they wouldn't be unhappy?

Does the inability to do this make any sense to anyone?

It is possible to bump them up, but only if you bump the entire group for the mission up. You cannot split a single group into different cabin types. I rationalize that it makes sense because people traveling together want to be together and all that. It does make some logical sense, like if you and your wife were traveling somewhere you would prefer to be seated together I imagine.

Granted, if it is a choice between getting transported and not, you aren't wrong...most people would want to split up to get on the ship. Just have to imagine that there's another captain right behind you waiting to transport them all together.

Thanks for the reply Jaggid. I am aware of the mechanism. But i the example I gave, the group will have the entite ship to themselves. Gym, casino and pool included. The only extra benefit for the lux pax would be the dubious honour of dining with my good self at the captains table. In such circumstances I cannot come up with any headcannon to justify it :).

Yah, really hard to wrap your head around it in the instance where it is the "whole ship" they get.

Maybe the group couldn't sort out which of them would get the upgrades and broke out into incessant bickering over who deserved it so you just got fed up and told them "forget it". That's how it would go down if my friends and I are were the traveling group... LOL

Indeed. Maybe I underestimate the lure of a seat at my dinner table. Perhaps I should charge more for those luxury cabins . Once we get space legs, I will at least be able to enjoy the facilities of my super yatchts will utilising supercruise assist💆‍♀️🥂

My Uber is a Corvette and has nothing but 1st class cabins; I can haul up to 54 passenger's of any variety. First come first serve, everyone else has to go second class with some other carrier.

Well Nemo, the fact is I have had to take the same approach and fill my pax ships with 1st class only in order to avoid the situation I gave in the OP. But this handicaps you if you see a lucrative LUX mission that you then cannot take.

I would like to carry one lux cabin for such eventualities, but the inability to upgrade a few passengers limits the already limited utility of lux cabins. A problem you will not have while transporting people in industrial class in your corvette, crammed in under your HRPs :p. My passengers require somewhat more in the way of creature comforts.

The question remains, why can't I bump some up, and should this be added to the game?

If I was traveling with a group and someone offered me a first class upgrade.....see ya when we land suckers!

Yes, yes it should.

I ended up not using luxury cabins at all in my ship outfitted for all 1st class for the very reason you mention in your OP. It stinks not being able to take the luxury missions when they are even worth it, but seeing as they don't pay much (if any) better than 1st class I made the decision to just dump luxury cabins.

Be nice if they made the change you are asking for simply so that luxury cabins were actually worth outfitting. Right now they are (imo) a useless module.

I like to travel in Luxury Class. The thoughts of a mere 1st Class passenger having occupied my accomodation beforehand ......
For some reason this reminds me of the response Barbara Cartland gave to a journalist when asked if English class barriers had finally been broken down: "Of course they have. Otherwise I wouldn't be sitting here talking to the likes of you."
