Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Supercharge FSD first, then select a jump point on the galmap, yes?
Yes :) But tick the “use jet-cone boost” as well, to enable the max-jump lines. If you leave that box ticked, and plot some long distance route, it will route you through as many neutron stars as iit can in order to shorten the number of jumps needed. Very useful if you are heading to somewhere and just want to get there asap!

Hmm. Interesting! So, if you pull that off, how far - maximum - can you jump and does the charge last for one jump only?

See, this stuff is what makes this game: there seems to be an endless plethora of things to see and do!

Maximum range is 4 x your current max jump, so for my 55ly Asp, I get 220ly out of it :) It lasts for one jump, and one jump only, Vasily. ;)

Well, I figured out I was far too low in the galaxy, the route plotter was struggling to find any route, never mind an efficient one.
My standard jumps were nowhere near 80, so I'm going to move higher up and start looking for boost stars and put the pedal down.

One benefit to being on the edge: 8 first discovered water world's including a ringed giant and some more spiky stellar anomalies.

It's a nice change to be out and about! :D

So far, not doing much but taking photo's.

Some missions gave me the opportunity to break out Nostromo Heavy:

And then I found one of those dangerous stars in Sookie Stardust 2

Pondering what to do next :D

Edit: my biggest ever payout for a single mission - thank you to my ever faithful Python, Angua van Uberwald:

As I haven't done so yet, I decided to get my exploration shoes on around Maia. Those Plaeides systems are so much more interesting than the Arieitis (sp?) ones. I think poking my nose arounds these places, has those pesky Thargoids are showing an interest in me. I wonder if they'll blow me up? Can they be scanned like human vessels?

Yes but you need an AX sensor in a utility slot, if you want to really find out stuff about them you have to get scary close.
Of course there are also research limpets but they tend to react to those much as we would if someone came up to us and tried to take a biopsy sample in the street.

Um, composition scanner?
Does that work on Thargoids for the Codex?

Xeno scanner for the thingies...

Pondering shelving the FDL for a while taking the Colonia highway in my Krait, 'Lonely Ghost'. Jumps around 67ly now, and with 'only' 1000ly between service stations, that's one checkpoint option every 15 minutes if I start to feel antsy*.

I ought to do it for the engineers but... I'm not sure I care enough. The main aim would be to use it as a starting point for another exploration expedition, possibly even do a Sagg A* pilgrimage (because it's going to bother me forever if I never do it). What's the ratio of undiscovered systems like out near Colonia? I have a bookmark set just 1kly from Sol which has about 1 in 4 systems still available, so that's a pretty strong draw in the other direction :)

* Does anyone else get exploration anxiety? I enjoyed coming back with 240mil of data and a pack of systems to my name, but by the 5th day I was starting to get really nervous about doing something silly like steering into a sun. It does at least seem like ED is very cautious with disconnects; twice dropped offline during hyperspace and both times returned to find myself back in the previous system, no damage taken. It does seem like the biggest threat to me is me.
