Thank You FDev

In an unrelated thread for an open source project, I was just reading how the developer is affected by negative comments.
And I came here, and read so many, many negative comments.

I love Elite Dangerous.

With the possible exception of the Half Life series, it's my most played game ever.

Most games I bought 5 years ago are long forgotten. Not ED.

It is immersive, fun, hard, frustrating, amazing, beautiful, and sounds awesome.

It has some parts that I don't like, some that I love. But to me, that demonstrates the depth of this game.

We all (and I include FDev here) wish we didn't introduce bugs - but when you're dealing with legacy software, it's a fact of life - if you want to release you can only test so much

As for changes - like the FSS, and other enhancements, sure - there may be people who liked the old way - but we all just need to suck it up and get on with it - honestly - you didn't spend THAT much on this game.

So - users out there - please, stop the negativity. Stop posting the sulky "I'm never playing again because of the honking changes" posts. and especially stop posting the sarcastic posts.

ED is a great game. The team responsible have a hard job keeping the players happy - but let's support them - let's help them. Let's be a positive community.

And if we make a suggestion, and give reasons, and it doesn't get implemented - well, let's move on with our lives rather than sniping.

So, as the subject says - thank you, Frontier Developments., for a game I love.

I partly agree, but only on behalf of the Indie dev.
FDev is a big Company and they run a tight business model,
whereas a small developer can be very much affected and demotivated by negativity,
it's not the case with AAA devs.

Apart from Liqua, who spend several thousand pounds during Kickstarter if I remember correctly, nobody has the right to be an entitled whiner. Constructive criticism on the other hand should always be welcomed. And complaining about bugs when they don't get fixed within a reasonable amount of time (whatever that is, certainly not waiting years though) is also legitimate in my opinion.

Is this OP anything more than a bit of virtue signalling while at the same time trying to push their own opinion? Surely if you wanted to boost morale at Fdev you should write them a nice email or perhaps say sometihng nice in a live stream. Or perhaps even contact mr Braben on twitter and ask him to pass your good wishes along to the team.....

As much as I don't agree with the Legacy Scanner people topicwise, this is a public forum. People can post whatever they want within the rules of the forum.

If you don't agree with it, you can: tell them so because you can post stuff too, be ridiculous for fun, or just ignore it. You could even Ignore it and never see them again, though I never do this myself. Some people I disagree with frequently are still good people to listen to, even if just to affirm my own differing opinion.

Magnitude of negativity shows passion. Same with positivity. No need to suppress either when it's presented according with the rules. Both are useful tools for the devs. Who else would they be talking to if not us? It is ideal: we give direct feedback and while it's sometimes raw and untempered it is useful just the same. Maybe negativity rubs SirMaxxx the wrong way, that I can believe, but I am sure devs look at forums professionally, because it helps them make money.

I agree and disagree ;)

I love ED and, like you, it's one of the game I've played the most in my entire life (actually it's the only game I've played that much). It's just amazing all the stuff you can do, the beauty of it, the vastness of the universe and the community. There is no other like it when it comes to space-sim (IMO).

We are in 2019. People are whining more than ever and sadly it became usual stuff wherever you go (not only in game industry)...people are always complaining & delivering tons of salt and over-drama.

On the other hand, FDev decided that ED would be an evolving game and made promises about content that would be delivered in the future. This imply that the player base have expectations.

Expectations from player base + lack of communication / transparency from FDev side is one of the main problem I see. Fdev could really upgrade their way of communicating with us.

What is the purpose of a forum other than give voice to those who wish to bring feedback and share thoughs on the subjects of matter?
Hence,

Thank you FDev, for Elite Dangerous in all it's different versions, flavors and features.
I love Horizons, the camera additions, exploration in it's current form. There's been some embarrassing moments of course. Remember having Tea everywhere at every base you found on the planets? Lore & content delivery in game hasn't been the best, there's been some incidents there as well. Water under the bridge and all of that.
There's always something to look forward to.

Thank you to all the past and current people putting their love, dedication and work into this platform. Especially all of you who face the angry mob in the social media and Support for
their tireless effort of assisting us.

I'm looking forward to what's to come, I sincerely hope this service never dies.

Communication, yeah, it's not just the ED community that has a problem with the lack of communication: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/help-with-error-messages.510740/post-7774439

Instead, we got the issue tracker. (tried to log in there, but it won't even let me.... go figure.

Yeah it's just a total big non-sense and when I see how other devs work with their community I envy them.

In the past year I have seen so many awkward situations that they put themself in where good communication - transparency would have solved so much frustration and salt from the players.

Can you keep your complaints as quiet then?

o7 CMDRs! I too appreciate FDev and what they have created for us. Tonight I found myself completely engrossed plying the galaxy in my Krait Phantom. I’ve logged nearly 3000 hours now! Not much compared to some of you but it’s the most I’ve ever played any game. I never tire of it! I love it. o7 CMDRs and an even bigger O7 to FDev. A round of Lavian brandy on me!

No, but i promise not to dress them up as anything else nor try to stop people disagreeing with me via virtue signalling in the direction of Fdev. Call me mr suspicious but the OP mentioned one specific issue and that led me to beleive that was the real reason for the post. When you whittle away all the extraneous waffle all it really said was stop complaining about the FSS.
