Re: Abuse in space

Why even ask this?
Stand by your principles and block and report.
Done.
Move on.
You cant control other people, only your reaction and behaviour in response.
The only thing that will happen here is divisive argument, trolling and flaming.
The world is full of basketcases.

I have now moved on and no longer upset. I will however point out that autism and communication defecits can lead to a handling of abuse in a way that some may find uncomprehendeable as to why there was any upset at all. But thanks to all the quick and honest replies I'm no longer upset.

Good evening fellow commanders

So far I've never encountered any problems with the chat in game. I've always found the players who I encounter to be kind courteous and helpful until tonight that is

I'm on my way to MAIA to buy a meta alloy so I can get the engineer section opened up. as I was talking someone popped into the chat and said some rather horrid English words that I'd rather not repeat

Am I being unreasonable to report the player in game?
You can report 'em if you want, FDev won't do anything about 'em unless they were threatening to combat log, at which point they'd just get a "Hey, we're not doing anything to your account, but you need to play nicely," e-mail.

OT, but couldn't resist either: "Than" can be used as a conjunction or a preposition, so in this case "me" is just as acceptable as "I". However, if you are writing your doctoral thesis on English grammar, then perhaps using "I" would be best practice to appease the grammarians on your panel.
This is a shortened version of the full sentence: "But I can see how it's annoying for people who have better education than I have." and therefore it would be a bit strange to say: "...than me have".

Today is a good day.. Interdictions rather than your a shun.. I won't ever write what was said to me but I have blocked the offender and won't mention any names. I hope they feel bad that it is all. We are elite dangerous players, fans, supporters etc so really why one player would throw profanities at another for no reason is just beyond me.

Yo-ho! Sad as it may sound to some, I truly love discussions like this. I would be glad to have set it off if not for it being off-topic. Ho-hum.
:)

Unfortunately I doubt they will feel bad. Some miscreant players are not interested in any sort of future space role-play or even in the game itself per se, they just want to join a multiplayer game - any multiplayer game - and set its virtual world on fire for their own pathetic amusement, before tiring of it and moving onto the next game to do the same. Who knows why? Maybe they were dropped on their heads as children.

It is somewhat on topic; I've seen people react to grammar correction as if it were abuse.

Well good language is subjective, we all draw our lines in the sand in different places.

If the recipient feels they are being overly sensitive they can just block that player. If the recipient feels the antagonist is being overly insensitive they can report the player.

I think the game already has the tools required to deal with differences in acceptable language.
