UNDERWATER VIEWING EXHIBITS IN PLANET ZOO
Monday on Planet Zoo Instagram they released a new screenshot revealing that there will be underwater viewing exhibits in Planet Zoo.

This caused much excitement in the community. On Planet Zoo reddit and on Frontier’s Planet Zoo forum

What are the possibilities?

Let us look at this picture piece by piece.

The water
There has been much discussion on how water works in Planet Zoo. While we don’t have the answer to this question yet, Sdanwolf and Geekism had some interesting thoughts.

Sdanwolf:
“What stops us now…Now if this glass actually, we know glass is going to stop the guess from actually walking out into the water, maybe one of the differences with Planet Zoo over Planet Coaster is the guess will not longer will be able to walk through walls. So that is a very interesting theory or is the glass that goes up against the water, is there just going to be a hitbox to that or how are the guest going to react to that to know not to run through the brick or the glass. We are thinking that like now a days they way they programmed it in this engine, you can build walls and not actually have the guest walk right through them into your shops or into the enclosures and all that.

“Where are we going to be stopped at as far as the level of the water…does this open the door for aquariums?...Going to get some fish at the beginning?...Our questions turn to what are the limitations of the water.” (Planet Zoo Underwater Viewing Confirmed!)

Geekism:
“This tell us all sorts of things. This tells us most likely the water is volumetric, as in you have to fill up an area with water rather than it being just like an image along a plane like we have in both Jurrasic World and Planet Coaster. Also it looks like that water is going to react to not only terrain but also scenery because it pretty much looks here that we got scenery pieces in front of the water. Now that may not be complete scenery pieces. It may not be piece by piece scenery like we got to expect with planet coaster. This well may be a piece of wall that gets placed in so that the water knows to interact with it. We are not quite sure about that.” (🦁 Underwater Viewing Areas! | Planet Zoo Update #08)

The brick
BeyondDrewTV had this to say about the brink:

“Noting on the texture on the brick here. We already have brick in Planet Coaster. This is just kindof noting the advances of the cobra engine here and the overall the lighting, how the game looks. If you look at that brick and if you have played Planet Coaster and you compare it to the brick we have in game, this brick right here has wornness to it. You look on the edges there, it’s kind of crumbling a little bit. It has age and wornness to it. It doesn’t look so pristine and clean. Looks like its been there for a few years or it has personality to it.” (Underwater viewing area! | Planet Zoo Update)

What looks like benches. Some have expressed the hope the wood structure lining the bottom of the viewing windows could be benches that people could sit on.

Water and building pieces.
Becauz Racecar made an interesting comment to BeyondDrewTV video.

“This shows that the water physics now has collision with building pieces!!!!! This is a huge game changer!!”

Finally we see lights on the bicks and a planter on the left side.

One Tuesday we received another screenshot of this area on Instagram.

FRONTIER HOSTED COMMUNITY MEMEBERS
Monday we found out from some YouTubers were invited last week to the Frontier Studios to see various games, one of which was Planet Zoo.
Here is a picture of them there.

134035

Geekism posted who is in this photo on the Planet Zoo Discord. People in this picture includes: Bo, Chante, SPRidley, Keralis, Geekism, DeLadySigner, Silvarett and Rudi Renkammel. And at least three of the volunteer moderators: @Joël, WingardiumLevicoaster, JessicaSonnet.

Chante gave this information on Planet Zoo discord: "Steggs and Paul are in the photo of the studio visit too! All the PZ CMS are included. They're the two on the far left. Other people that consistently release content are Tom and Steven, who both contribute to the Jurassic Park Podcast. Games4Tom, Floss and Anigmandra, who are known for creating outstanding Planet Coaster blueprints (Anigmandra will be on a Creator Showcase livestream with me next Wednesday). Then you have people like Joel, Elizabeth and Jessica, who moderate our chats and forums. There are more I haven't mentioned, but we didn't just invite 'big YouTubers'. E3 will have gameplay footage, but it won't be playable at E3."

According to them, after the E3 planet zoo presentation on Monday, their NDA will be lifted and we will be receiving an "info dump" from them.

As of right now I know of three of them who were there. So keep you eyes out on their channels.
Now while not being there you can be sure that I will put together an information packed post with all the information I can gather on Monday June 10th. And all my posts will be updated. So excited for

DEVELOPER POSTS FROM THE OFFICIAL FORUMS
On Wednesday we received the third Developer Journal.

In it Senior Artist Liesa Bauwens and Designer Emma Rydstrom were interviewed about Creativity and Habitats in Planet Zoo.
134039
Here are some items I found interesting in the journal:
Animals interact with environment. Example, the lion could make a building you had made into its favorite resting spot.
Animals have preferred environment they like. Grizzly bears love caves not palm trees.
Rock terrain. This is not just visual; it has a management feature. You will find that different animals enjoy different terrains.
Zoopedia. Place to find information about the animals preferred habitat. “is invaluable when it comes to planning and building habitats, as it gives you necessary information about what animals need to thrive. It allows you to prepare a space for the arrival of its new inhabitant, and it’s also a great way to learn more about the animals in your zoo!” For example the lion:
  • Lion. Is a social cat thus is requires a big habitat for multiple animals.
  • Lions groups. Can be alpha male with a few females, some males, or some females.
  • Male lions. If females around males don't get along.
  • Strong fences. Needed for lions.
  • Lions and temperature. Lions tolerate large range of temperatures. But if too cold they need heaters.
  • Shelter. Lions require shelter to escape elements and for privacy.
Knowledge of place of origin of animal vital for exhibit design. Use rocks and plants that hearken back to the animal’s origin. Add scenery themed to their country of origin. This adds to their happiness and the guest’s enjoyment. For example, elephants enjoy a savannah habitat.
Need for creativity. To blend beautify fo guests to look at while making sure it suits the animals needs.
Things to account for when building a habitat:
  1. Group size. The tortoise is happy alone or in small group but the elephants prefer larger herds
  2. Space - Hippos need more space than other animals.
  3. Areas for special activities species need.
  4. Shelter and privacy. A place for animal to get away be it a shelter or rocks or foliage to hide behind.
  5. Terrain and foliage. Animals want to live in an environment that resembles their natural habitat
Biomes and weather impact zoo. Zebra don't thrive in cold and rainy biomes without a well-build habitat and shelter.
Heater and coolers. Used to make animals comfortable.
Piece by piece building. Planet Zoo will include shiny new wall sets, props, and decorations for piece by piece building like Planet Coaster. Also will include new themes and new foliage.

What things did you find interesting?

COMMUNITY DISCUSSIONS AND POST
Check out this fun post with a Bingo Card for the Gameplay Trailer.

How will small exhibits work, join the discussion.

BaconTheDragon brought up something interesting from the second hippo exhibit picture in this post.
134040
Bacon had this to say “This kinda stood out to me. I know we've seen these before but I noticed the one the left is not as reflective as the one on the right. To me it appears to be some type of metal mesh and notice how its placed on the ground compared to the one placed on the rock. Im thinking the one on the left is a heat vent? This could also be ambient lighting like the one on the right, just appearing different due to the angle of the pic. What do you guys think?”

Panckendael is divided into different continents and has an appointed ambassador for each.

Asia (Indian lion ambassador) On June 24, 2006 Planckendael opened this highly anticipated Asia region, including a tropical greenhouse, which includes the Bali starling , tiger python , tree shrews, Great Argus , tokehgekko , ribbed hornbill , gibbon and middelbeo are housed. There are also staying in the outskirts of Indian rhinoceros , Indian lions , Demoiselle cranes , Manchurian cranes , red pandas , dwarf otters , camels , yaks ,wisents and przewalskipaarden . There is also a new restaurant, called Toepaja , and a playground. The elephant arena opened in 2012 is the only one of its kind: outdoor area 12,000 m², outdoor swimming pool 960 m³, indoor accommodation 2,000 m² and an indoor swimming pool of 300 m³. There is a separate section for the herd of females and a section for the breeding bull.

Africa (Bonobo ambassador) The Planckendael savannah biotope was opened in June 2008. The newest attraction of the nature park is the open 'savannah' in which the surroundings of the African region around Niger and Sudan are imitated. The area consists of different stages that together form an adventure trail. The African lodge is particularly spectacular, where you are up to one meter away from and as it were face to face with the giraffes . Five giraffes walk on the grassy plains among other impalas , Cape eland, and guinea fowl . Furthermore, the Africa part of Planckendael houses numerous animal species, including wildebeest , zebras , ostriches , bongos , porcupines , zebramo nests , hyenas and a genuine Africa village. Since 2009, Planckendael is the only zoo in Europe that has the very rare dune gazelle in its collection.

Oceania (Koala ambassador) Since 1998 this animal park houses a number of marsupials and egg-laying mammals that is found nowhere else in the world than in Australia , including red giant kangaroos , swamp wallabies , emus , helmet casuaries , koalas , wombats , ant rules and cooking aburras .

America (Golden-headed lion tamarin ambassador) The Americas part includes both North America and South America . On the one hand it has the wapiti's and the American bison , on the other hand the South America part is much larger with a large number of monkey and bird species, including parrots , golden -headed lion monkeys and vultures , but also flamingos , forest dogs , capybara's , maras and vicuñas . Deep in the continent you will find a petting zoo with dwarf goats , chickens and belliesand the American restaurant, Wapiti. Since 2014, visitors can walk among the penguins.

Europe (Stork ambassador) In the Europe section you will find the European animals that you rarely see in the wild. In addition to the numerous storks that walk among people and pick up food scraps, there are beavers , raccoons , badgers , foxes and a number of native owls.

Great to see Planckendael Zoo being featured. ❤
Is it me or do these “This week in Planet Zoo's” getting bigger with every week?
As always you did a amazing job and next week we will have actual gameplay footage. (y)

Love these compilations... I can only imagine the work that goes into collating it all :)

Just a couple of tiny points. In my video I stated the water would work with ‘terrain’ not ‘the rain’ and when listing people in the photo, I only really know the PlanCo lot. There was some big hitters from the JWE scene and other active community members. There was actually only a handful of active YouTubers, it’s great that Frontier focuses on community and not just the ‘numbers’:

Anyway, keep it up... I’m imagining a busy week next week! :D

To be honest, I was confused when was transcribing and thought you said rain, but I went with it. Silly me. It makes more sense now, thanks for the clarification. :)

And yes it is going to be busy next week. Might have to make a special edition of This week in Planet zoo with just E3 coverage.

Thanks again.
