Notice A statement on cheating in Elite Dangerous.

frontier will not permaban on first offence, that much seems to have transpired from these threads.

the news here is that he just smeared frontier's face with:
  • the fact that a multi-account fan took the trouble to actually look into this and download that crap
  • the fact that the cheat still works today, despite their pompous speech copy paste last week
  • the fact that he doesn't give a damn if he's banned, just to make this point
he will get a 3 day shadowban on that account, and ... frontier will have laid just another brick in the wall.
Working on Khan's ladder of escalation:

A cheat is created. So a counter fix, has to be made. Then a better cheat is made and therefore, another fix has to be made and so on; forever basically. First the 'cheat' has to be found or exposed; before it can be countered.

So a dedicated reporting system and team, to deal with those reports; has to be in place. We as players, cannot 'expect' F.D. to be on top of every possible cheat, as and when they appear. That is asking the impossible.

So I believe, that F.D. should put in place a solid reporting structure and back it up with strong action, along with good and honest, feedback to those making said reports. If the player base, see such a thing in place and is being effective; then maybe they will have more confidence, in F.D. statements, that they do not tolerate players using software cheats and then; give F.D. more support, with the issue.

I already said it: close open play on PC, decouple PC players from BGS/PP and offer a one time transfer to consoles.
or simply do what they did with the Mac platform

yes.

no. they have all that's needed. have had it for ages. it's their failure and their problem to fix. glad to hear they have your support but their take on this is nothing short of insulting and disrespectful to the playerbase. this nonsense has to stop.

Points one and two are OK by me the transfer to console is only a compensation to those who have them as well the last option is too extreme.

Oh, come on. There's an active community, thriving in these threads about cheating. Let us keep our fun.

I can't agree with that, sorry. Pc players also need their open sandbox. But there's always the option of pvp private groups. Boys, you just have to join one or create one, and call your "proper" friends in.

Apart from that, this is taken from the fandom wiki about BGS:
There is a cap on the amount a Faction can change in influence per day, which is determined by: the size of population (the bigger the harder), the faction state, the amount of player activity that day, and any Power influence on that system. Influence is calculated on an approximately daily tick.
Note the detail about limited effect of player activity per day.
Now, frontier can nerf this, and effectively limit how much a cheater can influence BGS and PP. Yes, all players will suffer the same way, but in the long run, i think it's much wiser for FD to control these changes than to let players run amok. I've seen that in EVE online, and it is always detrimental to the game itself.
Cheers.

Based on Panthole's post, Frontier obviously shouldn't ban all of their accounts.
Panthole flew around in solo, had a blast then came here to tell about it - and gave the Dev's the option to ban him...

In solo there was no-one else directly affected by it as the BGS/PP wasn't mentioned.
Silly thing to do, the account may be shadow-banned, but the remainder of his accounts, I assume, are clean...

Too many executioners here, the baying of the collective for blood - as long as it isn't their own :)

Thanks, I'll keep open, warts & all, at least until everybody is a cheat (with my combat skills I could accuse the lot of you and most NPC's too, so who am I to judge!) then move back to solo...

And you come here to brag about it?
Don't you know the first rule of cheaters? Silence is gold.
Now you have given FD a target to ban. And they can ban all your accounts, because they all belong to the same person that has admitted to cheating.
Luckily, they won't. They'll only flag you as cheater and set all your accounts to shadow-ban. Good luck playing solo for eternity.

You don't need to associate a forum account to a FD account, the only "clue" FD have to relate one to the other is the name and that's not fool's proof since you can name yourself after anything, my current forum name is not even similar to my CMDR name.

So the games that do have anti-cheat software built in/added; have those anti-cheat methods never been circumvented?

So the games that do have anti-cheat software built in/added; have those anti-cheat methods never been circumvented?

they can, but its usually only lasts a short while, and the next time they try to play after the anti-cheat has been updated the cheater gets auto banned.

that usually happens when they change up how the cheat works that the anti-cheat doesn't know about yet.

Then maybe they should do something about it?

Besides, calling it a crusade is a little pearl clutchy, ain't it?

Well, it has all the attributes of a well organized crusade. The fervor, the leadership, the righteousness. Not at last the wish to punish.
And a lot of demands from the devs of a game that is basically free to play.

Edit: also, at the beginning of this campaign the cheat had 300 downloads... Now i heard it reached 1500...

Struggling to cope with that analysis to be honest.

I don't see any organisation, leadership or righteousness, and where are you seeing this 'wish to punish'

Maybe you can provide some links to back up each of these?

While I agree there are certain demands of the devs, that is to be expected. Do you want to play in a galaxy inhabited by cheaters and bots?

From reading 81 pages all i have gotten from it is none of you will be happy no matter what they say or do about the issue at hand.

Now as for myself ( cant and wont speak for others ) i have put my hotas up on a shelf in my closet untill things are sorted out. Love the game, some of the playerbase and community, and the idea of Elite. As it stands now its nothing more than an overglorified EVE clone with no actual support other then community moderators and the random dev post.

Yes the issue needs to be delt with, and IMHO they need to shut the servers down and stop all development on future updates and what not untill they can get their stuff going in the right direction.

This situation isnt doing them or us any good and ( please keep an open mind cause putting my hotas away and walking away was my hardest decision in a long while about a game ) the best way to get their attention is to step away and stop buying cosmetic items for a month, boycott frontier and all of their products.

You hit em in the wallet hard enough and they will take instant action to resolve the issue. It been done with other major companies over the years and it always works. It will only work if we stand as one and yell with one voice that we have had it.

It's obvious bringing attention to the cheat was a goal here. That's been accomplished in spades.

As far as it being a crusade, you've lost me there. Looks like a public forum discussing an issue that inflames passions. No biggie.

"From reading 81 pages all i have gotten from it is none of you will be happy no matter what they say or do about the issue at hand." You missed some stuff there.

Rage quitting is not the way to go. They already have your money and you have just become one less issue, for them to cater for and deal to with, if you were playing and reporting such issues.

Well, all of this started literaly days after HarryPotter, a very visible SDC, made a fool of himself by yelling wolf wrongfully calling ThreeofSeven a cheater during a stream after taking a well administered beating.
And about the planning... here
So now it appears HarryPotter was well entitled to yell wolf, after all the game is full of cheaters. Even if Three was not a cheater, well... honest mistake, right?
/tinfoilhatoff

and the results? way more cheaters than before as far as i see

They timed the release of their videos for maximum impact. Hardly Illuminati confirmed.

What's Harry and Three's scuffle have to do with it?

As far as what you see I'd ditch the headgear!
