I need to land on this planet to complete a mission everytime I try it just crashes and the only thing the docking computer will do is put it into orb

what does the plus sign mean and why are they let me take a mission for a planet they know I can't land on?
The + is a security level. The fact that there’s a base there means you can land on the planet, but you may not be able to land at the base (no landing pads).

So you’ll need to land on the ground near it and get into your SRV. The Docking Computer or Supercruise Assist will be of no use, it’ll be a 100% manual operation.

Got it. I did fly down but no where to land on the base but I could have landed on the ground but figured that's not right. Cheers

On a text only medium, proper grammar is necessary to communicate clearly and accurately. Lack of voice inflection and facial and body language, requires correct grammar.

Otherwise, expect some confusion.

This is exactly why i hate having to communicate in text with anyone who grew up with a smart phone. Most have the language skills of a grade schooler.

Non native English speakers get a pass for trying.

You Sir, are a self righteous pompous little . Someone comes here asking for help and all you can do is insult them. You sad little man, if you've not got anything good to say then keep your mouth shut.

As the others said, you're not able to land directly at a ground settlement with one (or more) "+" after the name...

For your mission you have to land near the settlement and finish it in your SRV, mostly by scanning one or more datapoints. Get back to your ship and that's it...

Oh... and prepare to be shot at by settlement defenses like turrets and skimmers... ;)

No offence, but I think he's got a point. He did not insult anybody. He pointed out that, lacking facial expression, inflection, tone, and body language, the only means to figure out what somebody is trying to get across are, lamentably, the words we read on our screens, and that means we all must make a certain effort to be understood, and that includes watching grammar and spelling. I'll be the first to admit that nobody's perfect, but I dare say most people can readily distinguish between somebody struggling to do their best, and somebody not giving a flip whether or not others get the point.

(I'm a teacher, and I have been dealing with kids and adolescents for a long time. I love all my students to pieces, but there have been times when I was sorely tempted to fling a dictionary at certain students -- a German one, mind you, as many students have, these days, a tenuous grasp on German grammar and spelling -- and if you don't master your mother tongue, how can you hope to excel in another language?)

I hope I did not give offence. I just wanted you to see that his intention was simply not to blast the other with grammar buckshot...

Crashing? Out of the game? Or lithobreaking into the planet?

If it’s crashing the game, and it’s Steam, run a file validation.

If you’re smacking into the planet, it’s because you have to land the ship yourself.

You need to take your own advice. And while you're at it, have another look at the exchange that lead to the post you cried about - nothing insulting at all, and actually a response to a previous comment about grammar. Pretty poor all round by you.

The other classic (had it happen to me this week) is "the base killed my ship, I'm stuck here in the SRV ... what do I do?". But lightspeed is right, next problem will be no SRV
Funny thing is, if it’s a scan mission to a named base, you don’t even need one.

I just fly up to the hub access terminal, plant my Mamba’s pontoons into the ground, scan the thing point-blank with the onboard data-link scanner, then reverse and boost away before the defense turrets know what to shoot at.

Wow, great to see a lot of old-timers here with their snide, patronising remarks. I hope they all feel Very Important in their shiny pretend spaceships.

Hey, I just want to join in with smelling my own farts with you guys.
You should post something constructive. Help the OP. And help on his other questions, since you are the helpful type.

Tell him how to claim bounties as he asks here https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threa...acts-and-i-still-cant-claim-these-i-t.514635/ or here https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threa...hem-at-any-station-and-iv.514315/post-7843035 - he has lots of questions - be his ED buddy - you know you want to :)

For the records: you always need to land manually on planets if not landing at a space port.
Those locations with + signs are ground bases, not space ports, and if a mission points you there for, let's say data collection, you have to land beside it and do the rest in your SRV.

Supercruise assist will only take you into orbit of planets.
Docking/undocking computers only land/undock you on landing pads.
