It's time to consider the SLF an exploit in multi-player

Removing them from the game? No, but until it's fixed I can absolutely see why an organised PvP group might disallow them in matches, alongside other commonly-known-to-be-unbalanced things such as healbeams.
I totally agree with that, but OP was saying to remove them.

It wouldn't be beyond fdev to remove them considering they removed mining missions from the game for a week just because 1 in 10 mining missions had rewards that could be used to complete other mining missions.

This is the series of tests I conducted earlier:

Fd should fix it, but removing them is not the answer

Temporarily preventing the modules from being equipped and suspending NPC crew payment until a patch could be pushed out would not be entirely out of line, if the problem is as widespread as it seems.

Video doesn't cut it? OK.

FWIW, most of time I'm skimming the forum on my phone in a public place or in a quiet room with other people, and I won't want to open up a video with sound, and won't be bothered to hunt out headphones to listen. If there's text explaining the gist of it, I will at least read it, and possibly make a not to watch later if the words pique my interest.

Removing SLFs or blocking them from Open is pretty unlikely, I think. It seems like a really annoying problem, but probably just one of those things that's baked into the way the game's made, unfortunately.

The gist of the issue is that when engaging in PvP, if a player has a SLF and spams the fighter with orders, it causes the ship to appear to rubber band across the encounter, effectively making it impossible/hard to hit. Think of it as Vanellope von Schweetz special skill from Wreck It Ralph.

Download the latest Lave Radio podcast, they talk about it in detail with a couple of PvPers (probably what caused someone to feel the need to post this thread)

It is. Also, I'm not sure if it has anything to do with command spamming. I don't think this guy, for one, did nothing else all the time:

These accusations are more the problem than the bug to be honest mate. :(

That player is the lawful side of the drama of which I speak. He isn't exploiting. I know him, he wouldn't do that, he's just playing the game and this is the result. For what it's worth this exact drama is why SPEAR does avoid using SLFs at the moment (but it's not forbidden), simply to avoid this kind of misunderstanding.

It totally highlights the problem though, you simply cannot legislate for whether or not someone is doing htis on purpose.

As I say problem is acknowledged by FD and I do believe they understand the importance of it, I'm sure it will be in next patch.

Where in my post was I saying anything about that guy exploiting the fighter lag? Let alone accusing him of anything? As a side note, ofc he was exploiting it, we told him multiple times ingame that it was a bad idea to bring an SLF to wingfights because of that bug, and still he was using it for days, but that's absolutely not why I posted that video here.

The point is that I don't think it's necessary to spam the fighter with commands. Its mere presence in the instance must be enough to trigger the lag.

Thanks for doing this. That bandwidth though! 100K was similar to when I did DW2 with 30 players in 1 instance.

Sorry if you misunderstood, I wasn't accusing you of anything personally, just speaking generally. Just coincidence that you referenced the same vid that was doing the rounds as 'proof' amongst the outlaws, and of course a similar vid was being discussed by us of a terrorist doing the exact same thing (it;s been taken down now as a show of solidarity to our terrorist friends). Of course both deny it, and you know what? I think they're probably both telling the truth, these are both serious players with reps to protect, nobody does that stuff at our level, we all know that deep down I think.

I chose this one because it happens to be my longest video showing the fighter lag, that's all. :)

Sure, encourage FDevs to fix the issue. But I am dead set against removing SLFs or forcing SLF-equipped ships to only be able to play in solo. I rarely engage in combat, but several of my ships carry SLFs just so I can do a little canyon carving or just enjoy a little variety when I'm exploring or mining. I ONLY play in Open, and I refuse to accept being forced to NOT play open just because of this.

Or people don't do PvP and just get along.

Plenty on non PvP things to do.
If you want to PvP go and do CQC.
Imagine if there was a massive bug that ruined trading or PVE or exploration or any other gameplay mode, and all the pvp players came and said "lol just don't do x then plenty of other things to do." They would rightfully be laughed off the forums.

I get it, a lot of pvpers are jerks, but not all of us are and that doesn't mean fdev should just ignore bugs that ruin one of their most advertised modes of gameplay.

Its been considered an exploit by some of us for a while already.

The damn things are annoying at the best of times but having zero registering from FC rails, let alone being able to hit the target enough to get him to bank is just infuriating.

Broken as all hell.

I'm not convinced FD even knows about this problem in their game, considering how long it's been going on. But it should at least be considered as much of an exploit as pulling the cable or loading a "trainer". Maybe just remove it from Open play entirely until it's fixed, like when other exploits were removed because they were against the spirit or intentions of the designers. My 2 cents. YMMV.

haha, loading the training program is the new combat log, i didnt know about this.
Will this game ever be exploit free.
