The Star Citizen Thread V10

There was a time where some were telling stories of fun in the PU and others were asking for vids. So, I'm totally with you on this Agony_Aunt, but sovapid is free to continue posting vids... And I'm free to ignore them since the very firsts basically said it all already.

Its been suggested that the most radical backers do not actually play the game. They are too busy playing the game in their head... just like Chris Roberts :p
Well, at this point there is no game to play.

The most radical backers probably do some playtesting on each patch at most.

Sure, SQ42 might be able to release in late 2020 but the Star Citizen multiplayer? We still lack, dunno...LOADS of gameplay loops for trading, mining, bounty hunting, etc. Not to mention a populated single solar system filled to the brim with NPC ships, NPC characters walking around doing their own stuff.

Even using their system creation tool and having all those things being able to be added at the press of a button when mechanics are done there would be tons of bugs and cleanup to do in all areas so i imagine 2022 at the earliest to get something REALLY functional...And i reserve the right to push that date due to CIG and their skills in management and planning and implementing of features.

AFAIK SQ42 is rumored for Beta status end of 2020...release will probably be (much) later or maybe not...if some theories hold up that certain outside parties increase pressure for a release its possible that CIG will keep that phase pretty short but hey...we ll be here to observe and experience :)

You know, I was curious about that too. I know what polynomial calculations are, but what's a quantum drive? Let's see, Googling "Star Citizen quantum drive" returned this...
"The Quantum Drive is an engine type based on the manipulation of the quantum medium" Yeah, I stopped reading there.
Is that official?

AFAIK the Quantum Drive is basically supposed to be a futuristic version of the Alcubierre drive and i guess there are some math involved.

Found this:

https://arxiv.org/pdf/gr-qc/9905084.pdf

We will have to make a choice for the B function. It turns out that the most obvious
choices, such as a sine function or a low–order polynomial, lead to pathological
geometries, in the sense that they have curvature radii which are much smaller than
the Planck length.

So yea, there might be some truth in regards to how some of the words are connected but if he believes that they ACTUALLY used that kind of math in a computer game he needs his head checked.

the Alcubierre drive is based on general relativity and it bend space like in star trek, so it would be better to call it warp drive.
It has nothing to do with quantum mechanics so the quantum drive is even bad science fiction.

Actually, it has to do with quantum tunneling mechanics.

https://www.tsijournals.com/article...nneling-effect-through-the-light-barrier.html

So you use an Alcubierre drive combined with Quantum tunneling through the light barrier which would be as you say, a warp drive.

But that is to fly FTL which CIG does not but limit the ships to 0.2c.

Look, all you need to do to combine the two is apply some grand unified theory and theory of everything — are you suggesting that physics specialist and mastermind Chris Roberts can't do that? That's probably why the roadmap is lagging behind and why the road it maps ends in the middle of the forest.

I understand you enjoy the PvP aspect, but come on, do we really need to see every few days another PvP battle? Its not very interesting and rather repetitive.

Much better to have the repetitive circle thingy we do :D

Perhaps you can do a deliver the box mission instead, see if you can actually complete it without something horrible happening.
I'll do the cargo-delivery thing vids...but as a rule, they're not that interesting except for the new and exciting hover-mode landing rubbish with more than a real chance of screaming then explosions... and the new and exciting perma interdictions with even more chance of loud, angry shouting followed by explosions since the Federales have a penchant for ramming stationary vessels....almost like your ship wasn't there at all.

To balance all the new and exciting stuff...the old and boring falling through the physics doesn't happen too often these days...even parking a land vehicle inside a ship is kinda a non event...not Star Citizen at all really and very confusing.

...But the cargo stuff...just the same grind as E-D and all the other actual, working space games when you play a trucker :)

You really suck at being a fanboy :D

Today's video - erm, the new particle effects look particularly unconvincing and have fixed gravity orientation. How are they supposed to work in different, or zero, gravity?

Sending a recording team off to Sweden just to record some lab sound effects that could literally be performed in any secondary school you can think of seems a bit, urm, strange.

Alien ships - woohoo! Still not in the game though :D

What.

Don't tell me I have to inflict brain damage on myself by actually watching something.

Idiots.
Utter, unrelenting, unrepentant idiots.

How do they even manage to get to work in the morning without tripping over their shoe laces and falling head-first into traffic if that's the level of incompetence they think highly enough of to show off?
