Not by gating off and repurposing vanilla gameplay. Aka "the cheap way".Nah. There should be some places that are designed for the people who want a challenge and also want engineered ships. You can find an easier fight somewhere else.

I wonder if, were FD to make the Engineering process less tedious, would you look back at this in hindsight and think the same thing.I remember a great many PvP combat enthusiasts back in that era complaining about the grind, and in hindsight they were probably right back then.
I always wondered what people want to do in this game if they feel being blocked by grind. You want to have fun and grind is killing it? How?
Do you people realize that when you fully engineer your Corvette then after that you will have... the same type of gameplay just like during grinding?
Its like you asking for
"REDUCE GRIND BECAUSE I WANT TO DO THE SAME THING WHAT I WANTED TO DO DURING GRINDING BUT WITHOUT REWARDS!!!"
Threads like this completely destroyed meaning of credits. Now you want more?
Why dont you just play some arena shooters, Everspace, SpaceEngine or Universe Sandbox.
If you think that without materials or credits you would magically get new gameplay elements then Im sorry whiners but... Elite Dangerous doesnt have "End game". If you hate grind then you will hate experience after you beat "the grind".

I can appreciate your consideration. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.Given it some serious consideration, and I don't think that I would.
How about not having to grind for this core gameplay activity at all? Is pretty arbitrary to gate off this content behind pay- and grindwall what was already in the bloody vanilla game.
HouseOfDerp -> Your respond about the same gameplay is ridiculous. It doesnt matter what ship you are flying if you dont like tasks you have to do to aquire materials.
"Combat PvE, hauling, mining, general travel and exploring are all activities that I've had significantly enhanced in some way via engineering. "
So you just play the game. You are not grinding. You play the game because everything you mentioned will give you materials. So whats the deal? Why are you people so frustrated and crying like little babies?
Not really at least in my case. If I never have to go surface prospecting again I won't. I haven't done hauling missions but maybe twice since my rank grind was done and that was because of trying to get other missions to spawn or be accessible because I was trying to grind rep for a minor faction for an engineer.
...
This is the problem that arises from starting with an incorrect premise, you wind up at a series of useless solutions. No, people don't want to play an astrophysics sim or a shooter instead of ED when they ask for less grind in ED. And no, they aren't looking for new gameplay in their request to have the grind reduced as such (though why someone would be against expanding gameplay options in a sandbox game is beyond me) but are typically wanting to get to their chosen gameplay sooner or stay there longer. Maybe they want to shoot things rather than trade, or explore rather than mine for upgrades, or race with the best engines rather than jump 5kly for the sake of an unlock.
Im sorry guys Im out from this thread. You have no idea what grind means and I feel some of you actually dont enjoy playing Elite Dangerous if you are so irritated from "grinding". People who struggle to acquire materials or gain credits right now will never be satisfied. You just want to transform Elite Dangerous into Space Engine.
IndeedMy weekly rant:
I'm slooowly coming to terms with engineering being an inescapable aspect of the game.
However, FDev must implement an in-game materials "shopping" list for each module
along with mat requirements for each grade. This should be displayed on the module
description tab. It should also calculate the mats I already have for each grade.
Just like in the Guardian/Human tech requirements page. Plain and simple and already
in the game. Make it so for every engineerable module!!
Might I dare suggest an incoming message telling me of a material trader nearby?
Or a message alerting me that I have enough mats for this or that upgrade?
I cannot stand having to Alt-Tab to Inara, copy/paste crap and take notes just to be able to
get STARTED collecting mats. Especially when Inara is wrong and I'm short 1 stupid
mat after docking at an engineer. I have made it a habit to always go with more mats than
what it says, but I still sometimes come up short. Makes me want to destroy the galaxy!
It's this useless, irritating out of game hunting, gathering, searching garbage that I hate.
This is the grind my friends! Not the gameplay.
Ridiculous.
And I've heard of EDEngineer. I want nothing to do with it. This should be dealt with by the
game itself.
P.S.
ALREADY ENGINEERED MODULES SHOULD DISPLAY THE GRADE INFO WITHOUT
ME HAVING TO CLICK A SEPARATE, STUPID MODIFICATIONS BUTTON!!!

X.
Well, sure I can grind for some stupid materials. But that is not the point. The point is that I dont want to grind for stuff to do that I could do perfectly fine without having to engineer in the bloody first place. Like playing core game stuff like CZ. I'm not hamsterwheeling this crap just to play what was vanilla content before.Grind? You are calling gathering t2 materials as a grind? Im sorry no offense but do you actually know how to use collector limpets? What do you do in Elite Dangerous that you have trouble gathering tier2 materials? Do you actually know that you can go to high grade emissions and exchange in material trader tier5 mats to insane amount of tier2?
....
My post isn't excited or tacitly daft. For what it's worth I'm not a great fan of engineering as a general concept in this sandbox game.
Then you go and mention a reasonableness test. Shall we subject your own post to your own standards?
It isn't reasonable to imply I was talking about totally un-engineered ships. I go on to mention light engineering with whatever materials you already have from just generally playing the game. In that respect I was being entirely reasonable.
What isn't reasonable us the false equivalency*you* appear to place on non-G5 ships being totally un-engineered. You appear to be arguing on a digital footing of either G5 or not engineered. Where's your middle ground? That's what I would call an unreasonable argument.
Of course you can do combat zones without FULLY engineered ships. You can just do little bit of engineering and you are fine. Make your weapons T2 and you are fine.
Here's a Fleet Carrier.Hey Frontier, NMS reduced the grind and all players are happy. Please take note.
I agree, and I'd like to mention that there are low, medium and high intensity CZs.Nah. There should be some places that are designed for the people who want a challenge and also want engineered ships. You can find an easier fight somewhere else.
So, like I said, you can't do combat zones without an engineered ship.
Nonsense, you need to unlock engineers and gather all the mats. That's at least a couple of weeks just to unlock basic gameplay again.and little bit engineering doesnt require more than one hour of playing the game and most of required mats you gather during bounty hunting(yes you can bounty hunt easy targets without engineering) etc. So thats why I call you and others here whiners because you whine about things that arent problematic. You try to find arguments like you cant fight in CZ because of grind which is bulllshit. Tier2-3 engineering doesnt require grind. It requires playing the game for one hour. Only Grade 5 require more effort but still with material traders you can easily get what you need. Besides you dont need Grade 5 engineering unless you PVP and I doubt any of you do PvP based on how hard it is for you gathering tier 3 mats except ganking harmless sidewinders in eravate.
Ok... How about you put your money where your mouth is? Clear your save (post pics or videos as evidence, incl a timestamp), then post a picture of the best CZ loadout you can muster in less than an hour. Bonus points if you can post a loadout for a ship that can handle Thargoids an hour after that.and little bit engineering doesnt require more than one hour of playing the game and most of required mats you gather during bounty hunting(yes you can bounty hunt easy targets without engineering) etc
